LGH Auxiliary President`s Message
LGH Auxiliary President’s Message Happy Fall, What an exciting time to be part of the Lowell General community with the merger, the Research Place expansion, and the opening of the new Dahod building. Lowell General is fortunate to have people like Norm Deschene and his team leading the way to address the medical needs of the people in the Greater Lowell area. We in the Auxiliary are playing our part in this success. In 2009, the Auxiliary pledged $750,000 to the hospital Legacy fund. At the Auxiliary’s annual meeting last May, outgoing president, Tarina Mansur presented Norm a check for $125,000 to the Lowell General Legacy Fund. This brings the Auxiliary’s contributions to the Legacy Fund to $500,000, leaving a balance of $250,000. We should be very proud of this accomplishment. The Auxiliary’s Annual meeting was held at the Stonehedge Inn in Tyngsboro. Over 85 guests enjoyed a delicious luncheon and were treated to a preview of the latest spring fashions from FRESH OF NASHUA. The new gift shop in the main lobby of the Dahod building opened on August 13, 2012. Our thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this possible especially Donna, Kathie and their team of outstanding volunteers who did a fabulous job stocking the shop with unique items. Please be sure to stop by the next time you are in the new Dahod building. 2013 is shaping up to be an exciting year for the Auxiliary as we expand our circle of friends and broaden the Auxiliary's activities to include all members of the LGH community. We welcome new members to the LGH Auxiliary family and look forward to seeing old and new faces at our events. Mark your calendars for the upcoming 26th TASTE OF THE TOWN event being held on October 28, 2012, at the U-Mass Lowell Inn and Conference Center. We will be featuring area restaurants with their latest creations. Plan to arrive early to preview the wonderful raffle baskets. See you there. Finally, and on behalf of all Auxiliary members, I wish to thank Tarina Mansur for all her hard work and dedication over the past two years as President of the Lowell General Auxiliary. She has been an exceptional leader to an extraordinary group. The lunch began with a delicious mixed green salad with a dijon honey vinaigrette, followed by either an herb seared Atlantic salmon or stuffed chicken breast entrée and a refreshing fruit dessert. Guests commented that this was the best lunch yet at an Auxiliary Annual Meeting. After lunch, Auxiliary President Tarina Mansur conducted the business meeting. The minutes of the 2011 Auxiliary Annual Meeting were approved. The slate of Auxiliary Officers and Board Members for 2012-13 was passed. Tarina ceremoniously passed the gavel to incoming President Mary Bennett. Pauline Lambert, chair of Daffodils and Desserts, presented Meg Lemire-Berthel and Cammie Byrd of the LGH Cancer Center with a laptop, monitor and kiosk for patient family use on MS3, two large coffee urns and several $100 Market Basket gift cards which social service will distribute to cancer patients at the holidays. President Tarina Mansur along with First Vice President Mary Bennett and Second Vice President Carrie Meikle presented LGH President and CEO Norm Deschene with a check for $125,000, the fourth installment of our $750,000 Legacy Fund pledge. Norm and Tarina traded jokes about each other being “the best President.” Norm also commended the LGH Auxiliary for reaching the $500,000 Legacy Fund mark with this donation. After the business meeting ended, the fun began. Fresh of Nashua presented a fashion show of gorgeous dresses, casual outfits, jewelry and handbags. The models were Lisa Angelina, Pauline Beaulieu, Brenda Korwan, Carrie Meikle, Priti Patel, Cathy Ryder and Pam White. After the fashion show, Tarina drew the door prize raffle. Ethel Atkinson won the door prize of a bag with everything you need for the beach. The attendees of the Annual Meeting included Auxiliary Past Presidents: Stella Athanasoulas, Lynn Chaput, Carol Gilchrist, Pauline Lambert, Debbie Lemos, Jean McCaffery, Evelyn McCartney, Mary Stevens, Debbie Trull and Elaine Zouzas Thibeault. The Lowell General Hospital administration was strongly represented by President and CEO Norm Deschene, Executive Vice President and COO Jody White, VP and Chief Human Resources Officer Peter Zarrilla and Director of Philanthropy Ellen Kallman. The new Gift Shop operated by the LGH Auxiliary opened in the new Dahod Building Lobby on Monday August 13th. The new shop is a huge hit with our employees and hospital visitors and is often described as feeling like a “hotel boutique”. Almost every person who walks in comments on how beautiful it is and we are having a lot of fun filling the shelves with lots of pretty items to tempt our guests. The space is approximately 100 square feet larger than the former shop and is finished with the highest quality materials and fixtures. Located just steps from the new main entrance and right next to the new Patient Service Center the shop is the focal point of a spectacular new lobby. There is even complimentary valet parking! Quite a convenience when you have several shopping bags. A stunning art installation commissioned to reflect the textile and manufacturing history of Lowell hangs over our doorway drawing one’s attention right into the shop! Our grand opening featured the Alex and Ani collection and within two weeks almost every bracelet was gone! But, don’t fear we have reordered and have a huge shipment arriving by the end of September, followed by another shipment just prior to our Holiday Festival. If you are not familiar with this jewelry, just ask around…it is hot, hot, hot! Speaking of the festival: It will be held in the Clark Auditorium on Thursday and Friday, November 29th and 30th and we hope to see many of you there! We have also started carrying Big Buddha handbags and are also having a hard time keeping them in stock! We are expecting a shipment any day and expect to be selling right out of the box as we unpack them! We’ll be sure to order a nice selection of them for the Festival as well. We are including a special discount coupon for Auxiliary members and encourage you to take advantage of this special one-time offer! What better time to come see your new shop and maybe do a little pre-holiday shopping? The coupon expires on October 31st, so don’t delay!
