At Western Missouri Medical Center, our
Mission is to improve the health of our greater community by providing quality health
care services, exceeding the expectations of
those we serve. The WMMC Auxiliary represents a valuable link between WMMC, its
greater community, and the WMMC Mission
through activities and services our volunteers
provide.
Due to the success of the Wishing Well Gift
Shop and fund raisers held throughout 2013, the Auxiliary was able to offer
monetary assistance for the purchase of equipment totaling $46,475. We
also had the opportunity to publish a cookbook, including 395 tasty recipes
from the Auxiliary members and WMMC staff. "Favorite Recipes" sells in
the Gift Shop for $12. As educational expenses are rapidly rising and the
demand for health care workers increases, there is a continuing need for
additional funds. To that end, the Auxiliary annually sponsors the Auxiliary
Health Care Career Scholarships to assist students who are pursuing or furthering their education in any health care field—a scholarship created in
honor of long-time, local nurse, Virginia B. Patterson. The Auxiliary has since
provided over $56,500 in health care-related scholarships.
With nearly 300 members, we are able to provide the assistance needed
to help WMMC offer the most advanced health care. Joining the WMMC
Auxiliary is a perfect opportunity to give back to our community and create
great friendships. Our community is very close to our hearts, and we will
continue in our efforts to provide a healthy future for our community. We

ONGOING AUXILIARY INITIATIVES
• Wishing Well Gift Shop (100 volunteers staff our Gift Shop and three
lobbies).
• Small Mall & Bake Sale (provides a Christmas shopping experience for
Johnson County children ages 4 – 12), combined with a sale of delicious,
home-baked items for any age. Volunteers assist the children while they
shop, wrap and tag gifts. Volunteers also work in the bake sale, the craft
and white elephant areas; act as cashiers; and help with set up and take
down.
• Additional fund raisers include: the Annual Ice Cream Social and Holiday
Sale, Book Fairs, Linen Sales and Jewelry Fairs.
• Provide teddy bears to young surgery patients, specially-made bras for postmastectomy patients and handmade pillows for abdominal surgery patients.
• Recognize Doctors’ Appreciation Day, National Nurses’ Day and Hospital
Week in a variety of ways.
• Distribute baskets and treats to staff on May Day and Halloween.
• Present a gift basket to the first baby of the New Year born at WMMC.
VISION FOR THE FUTURE
Since the beginning of the Auxiliary in 1968, nearly half-a-million dollars
has been generated for the benefit of our Medical Center, projects and
activities. These benefits have been greatly appreciated, not only by patients
and staff, but also visitors and families. It is our Vision to equip an entire
room or waiting area for the Western Missouri Women's Health Center, part
of the proposed future Medical Center expansion plan. Currently, we have
over $86,000 in this committed trust fund to accomplish our goal. With the
support of our volunteers our Vision can become a reality.
