LIMA A CITY WITH HISTORY
Host of the BWF World Junior Championship 2015
Lima is the capital of Peru. It was founded in 1535. It has a population of 9 million
people.
Lima time is five hours behind Greenwich Mean Time and Standard Time
coincides with the eastern United States of America. The climate is temperate and
temperatures vary between 15 and 18 degrees Celsius from April to November
and 21-28 degrees Celsius from December to March.
Centralism has made Lima's most populous and chaotic city of Peru. The
migrations of the last century have created it a poverty belt to the traditional areas
of the city.
Lima is now a huge city. Modern and traditional. A mixture of all cultures and times
of Peru. With great beauty and with a lot to offer its visitors.
In Lima we can find all kinds of tourist attractions for all tastes.
In Lima, the main museums of Peru, where we see the most important vestiges of
the peoples that existed in this part of the world as the Incas, Paracas, Moche,
Chimu, Nazca and the Lord of Sipan, among others. Within the city we can also
find numerous ruins of past civilizations to the Spanish and the Incas inclusive;
highlighting the Inca citadel of Pachacamac and ceremonial centers Pucllana and
Huallamarca Puruchuco.
Lima is a modern city with all the amenities that can be found in big cities. Here we
can find financial and commercial areas, stores and other services.
Just one or two hours from Lima you can visit splendid landscapes: beaches,
countryside, ruins, abundant fauna and flora; which allow you to get in touch with
nature.
Being a modern city, Lima has a very varied and lively nightlife, which combines
traditional and modern at the time of fun: you can find from "rocks" (nightclubs
where you listen and dance typical Creole music of Peru) to nightclubs where you
can dance until dawn with the latest DJ's in the world.
MIRAFLORES ... ..THE CITY WE ALL WANT
Miraflores is recognized as a
major tourist destination.
Its history can be traced from
ancient remains found in the
archaeological site of Huaca
Pucllana, ceremonial center of
the Lima Culture (200-700 AD) to
modern. In its architectural lines
linking the stately charm of old
mansions and villas that speak of
the splendor of its past. It also has
modern malls, clubs and
restaurants offering specialties of
local and international cuisine.
Under the same sky, Miraflores
meets upscale hotels, craft
shops, art galleries, theaters and
recreational centers of various
kinds. It has even organized and
tidy street vending, displaying their
wares in attractive strollers that are
attracting visitors.
To admire the Miraflores coastline,
there are jetties and natural
viewpoints from those who
appreciate beautiful sunsets and
the majesty and vastness of the
sea. Accompanying the show the
beauty of its large parks adorned
with a wide variety and colorful
flowers invite you to visit them and
enjoy them in pleasant walks.
Miraflores is also distinguished for
its nightlife as they open their
doors at sunset, local offering
several varieties of shows, such
as clubs, discos, theaters,
cinemas, bars, among others. An
important cultural activity is also
evident in public places. At the
heart of the district, you can be
found Amphitheater Chabuca
Granda Central Park and close to
the exhibition and sale of
handicrafts made by the best
exponents of the whole country in
the rotunda of Kennedy Park.
Often our parks are the scene of
various shows and outdoor
activities. Even, every year our
central park hosts the Book Fair
busy "Ricardo Palma" during the
month of November.
SAN ISIDRO ... ..THE FINANCIAL SOUL OF LIMA
The district of San Isidro is one of
the 43 districts of the Peruvian
province of Lima, located in the
eponymous region.
San Isidro is the financial center of
Lima, the main economic sectors
that have a high activity are trade
and services. It is considered one
of the most important business
districts of South America. They
are seen in the various district
headquarters of national and
transnational corporations; many
of which are located in modern
buildings built in different sectors.
It limits the north with the districts
of Lince, La Victoria and Jesus
Maria, east San Borja, south of
Surquillo and Miraflores and west
by Magdalena del Mar and the
Pacific Ocean. With an estimated
population of 58.056 inhabitants,
The San Isidro district has a huge
amount of green areas. El Olivar
forest has several hectares of olive
trees more than four centuries ago
and was declared a National
Monument in 1959.
El Olivar, is a park that stands out
from the other existing in the
hemisphere, is not only a vivid
memory of Lima history, but a great
lung for the city.

municipal libraries of Lima)
Municipal Library of San Isidro and
the Laguna El Olivar, besides
being one of the residential areas
of the district that remain today.
In San Isidro headquarters of
important Peruvian social clubs
such as the Lima Golf Club and
the Real Club of Lima, among
others they are. Manor houses
abound and invade modern highrise buildings, making it one of the
most modern and beautiful
districts of Lima.

GEOGRAPHY AND CLIMATE
The city of Lima has an arid and
semi-warm climate. The average
annual maximum temperature is
21,97ºC (71,4ºF) and the minimum
is 17ºC (62ºF). The temperature
increases in the years where the
El Nino phenomenon appears.
TOURIST ATTRACTIONS
Historic Downtown
On January 18th 1535, Francisco
Pizarro founded the capital of Peru
in what is today the Main Square.
Behind it, there is the Alameda
Chabuca Granda, where you can
find typical Creole dishes for you to
taste and also different shows to
enjoy. Possessing important
samples of Colonial architecture,
the historic downtown is also known
as “Damero de Pizarro” (Pizarro’s
Chessboard) because the streets
are distributed like a chessboard. In
1991, the area was placed on the
World Historical Heritage list by
UNESCO.
MAIN SQUARE, LIMA
It was the center of the old Colonial
city. In its perimeter, the Cathedral
of Lima, the Government Palace
and the Provincial City Hall of Lima
are located. In the center, there is a
seventeenth century bronze
fountain.

It is placed where the first Main
Church of Lima was. The interior is
austere, although it shelters real
historic jewels like the finely carved
wooden pews of the Baltasar
Noguera choir, different side altars,
and the remains of Francisco
Pizarro. In addition, you can visit the
Museum of Religious Art that
possesses an important collection
of canvases, sculptures, chalices,
and vestments.

Visits start in two schedules: 09:00
and 09:30, except for the third
Sunday of each month, previous
coordination (from Monday to
Thursday until 19:00 hours). Free
admission.
It was the residence of Francisco
Pizarro (1535), who built it on the
land that was occupied by
Taulichusco, chief of the Rimac
Valley. Since then, the place has
been the center of political power in
Peru. After a fire, it was rebuilt in the
1920’s. It has many patios and
rooms dedicated to important
people of Peruvian history and
carefully decorated with notable art
pieces. Every morning at 11:45
A.M., the Patio of Honor is the stage
for the changing of the guard.

seventeenth century architectural
complex. It includes the church,
convent, and the square. The
church’s main front was carved in
stone and is characterized by its
Corinthian columns.
In the face, there is an open cornice
with arches with an image of the
Immaculate Conception. The
cloistered area, decorated with
tiles, houses the Vice-royal Art
M u s e u m . A d d i t i o n a l l y, t h e
catacombs, which were a cemetery
during the Colony, can be visited.

district (25 minutes from competition and training
Halls) and "Kingdom" and "Thunderbird Carrera"
located in Lince district (both 15 minutes from the
competition and training Halls).
The "Antigua Miraflores" is designated for the
BWF Technical Officials and "Dazzler 4*", “El Doral
4*”, “Runcu 3*”, “Casino Boulevard 3*”,
"Kingdom 4*" and "Thunderbird Carrera 4*" are
designated for the Sport Delegations.

Lima, within the Peruvian
cuisine, has a great variety in
dishes offered in places as
diverse as 5 star hotels,
with shredded chicken breasts.
Chinese influence also
generated new culinary
proposals as chaufa, baked and
fried rice in soy sauce with small
pieces of chicken, pork, egg and
green onion; and lomo saltado,
fried potatoes, meat, onions,
tomatoes and peppers,
seasoned with soy sauce.
Desserts are another source of
inventiveness. The purple
porri
dge, rice pudding,
the sigh to Lima,
Dona Pepa nougat
and picarones
represent the
sweet side that
accompanies
the meal.
The purple
corn drink, known
as chicha, pisco sour, beer
and Inca Kola soda
yellow, are traditional
beverages of Lima.
El Tiradito, a version of ceviche
without onion, and litter, fish broth
with seafood, seafood dishes are
typical of Lima. The long list
includes rice with seafood, fish
chorrillana, Parmesan shells,
mussels to chalaca, mixed jelly,
tequeños stuffed with crabmeat,
stuffed because tuna fish fried
rice, pasta with seafood sauce,
etc.
The Peruvian-Spanish fusion
dishes like Lima created cause,
mashed potatoes stuffed with
poultry, seafood or avocado and
tomato; the tamale, a concoction
of ground corn seasoned and
stuffed with chicken or pork; and
the chili chicken, stewed
peppers, milk, bread and spices

It is provided as a courtesy from Jorge Chavez
airport to the official hotel.
SHUTTLE SERVICE
A courtesy shuttle service is available between the
hotel and the venue for players, coaches, delegates
and officials, staying in the Championships hotels,
from Friday before the tournament starts. We can
help you arrange, transport to/from practice before,
however this might be subject to a cost for bus etc.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT
WHAT IS THE METROPOLITAN?
Metropolitan is the new integrated public transport
system for Lima, which has high-capacity
articulated buses that circulate in exclusive
corridors, under the scheme of bus rapid transit
BRT.
The first corridor connects Lima Metropolitan South
with North Lima, covering 16 districts of the city
from Chorrillos to Comas.
The aim of this modern system is to raise the quality
of life of citizens, to save time in the daily transfer,
protect the environment, provide more security,
better service quality and more humane treatment,
especially pregnant women, women with children in
arm, children, seniors and people with disabilities.
The project of the Metropolitan was executed with
funds from the Municipality of Lima and financing
from the Inter-American Development Bank and the
World Bank is a transformer axis of the city and its
design also includes the improvement of the urban
furniture, building new tracks private transport,
changing networks of electricity, water and
telephone in addition to the landscaping of the entire
area covered by the system.
Unlike the systems operating in cities such as
Bogotá, Curitiba and Mexico, our system is the first
to operate a natural gas vehicle, which will
contribute to reducing the pollution generated by
motor vehicles.
WHAT IS METRO LIMA - LINE 1?
Line 1 of Metro de Lima was inaugurated on April 28,
1990, covering only a stretch in the south of the city
from Villa El Salvador to San Juan de Miraflores.
Later, the project was extended to downtown Lima,
which led him to incorporate 21.48 km long. The first
expanded section was inaugurated on July 11, 2011
by then President Alan Garcia Perez. The second
section of Line 1 reaches San Juan de Lurigancho.
Its construction is called a public tender won the
Lima Metro Consortium, consisting of Grana y
Montero and Odebrecht Peru. The work was
delivered on May 12, 2014, after two years of
construction. Commercial use of this second
tranche, together with the first section, began July
25, 2014.
With its 35 km is the longest in Latin subway line.

The BWF World Junior Championships 2015 will be played in Lima in the “Villa Deportiva Nacional”, also called
“The VIDENA”. The city of Lima and the Peruvian Badminton Federation are pleased to welcome players and
officials from all over the world to these prestigious championships.
The “VIDENA” is, along with the National Stadium, one of the main sports venues of Peru. This facility is located in the
district of San Luis and within its limits other sports disciplines like football, athletics, cycling, gymnastics, softball,
baseball, badminton, martial arts, wrestling and volleyball have their training centers.

The Peruvian Badminton Federation looks forward to be your hosts, for the first time in South America, of this BWF
Word Junior Championships. We are confident that we will have every detail under close control and we will provide

Federation office will issue an official invitation that should enable you to get your visa and, if necessary, contact our
