Mayer & Co. | $25
Nov 4, 2011 @ 8 pm
By Andrzej Krakowski & Michal Komar
Based on the book Pollywood by Andrzej Krakowski
Join us for a staged reading of a new play in which the beginnings of Hollywood are revealed. In
1957, a young film editor attempts to prepare a newsreel tribute to the founder of MGM, the late
Louis B. Mayer and conducts interviews with two other motion picture giants: Samuel Goldwyn
and Jack Warner. Full of humor and clashing egos, this story pulls no punches in deconstructing the
existing myths and legends.
The Importance of Being Earnest | $40; $20 students
Nov 19, 2011 @ 3 & 8 pm
(pictured below, left)
By Oscar Wilde. Performed by Aquila Theatre.
Oscar Wilde’s classic tale of two young men who have taken to bending the truth to add a dash of excitement
to their lives comes to the Emelin stage! The New York Times has described Aquila’s production as “Gleefully
engaging…almost unbearable fun…directed with inspiration and a beautiful use of physical humor.”
The Liar Show | $27
Feb 11, 2012 @ 8 pm
4 Storytellers, 3 True Stories, 1 Pack of Lies. New York’s fastest talkers tell stories that will make you
laugh, make you think, or just make you glad you’re not them. But listen carefully because one of these
people is making it all up. Interrogate the tellers and cast your vote for the Liar to win a Liar t-shirt!
Nearly Lear | $34; $17 students
Mar 31, 2012 @ 8 pm
(pictured at right)
Nearly Lear encapsulates all the grandeur of Shakespeare’s tragedy King Lear as seen through the
eyes of the King’s closest companion - his own fool! As told by Lear’s devoted clown, the story is
not only poignant and moving, but also mischievous, tender and hysterically funny.
All Wear Bowlers | $40; $20 students
Apr 27 & 28, 2012 @ 8 pm
(pictured below, right)
In this hilarious hit show, two silent film clowns take a wrong turn and find themselves in a
haunted theatre, where hard-boiled eggs play tricks on them and gravity refuses to behave.
Rene Magritte, Samuel Beckett, and Laurel & Hardy collide in this sidesplitting romp that
melds remarkable physical comedy with stage magic and vaudevillian patter. “Easily the
most original and funny show this year” (The New York Times).

The Gibson Brothers | $40
Oct 21, 2011 @ 8 pm
(pictured at left)
In 2010, upstate New Yorkers Eric and Leigh Gibson’s recording of the
song “Ring the Bell” won IBMA awards for Song of the Year and Gospel
Recorded Performance of the Year. The Gibson Brothers continue in the
classic bluegrass tradition of close-harmony brother duets, adding exceptional
songwriting, superb musicianship and terrific stage presence. Their return to
the Emelin stage starts the 2011-12 bluegrass series off with a bang!
J.D. Crowe | $40
Dec 9, 2011 @ 8 pm
It’s impossible to overstate how much J.D. Crowe has influenced bluegrass
music since he first came to prominence as a young member of Jimmy
Martin’s Sunny Mountain Boys. Not only is he one of the most influential
banjo stylists ever to pick the five, he has long been recognized as one of the
most musically adventurous bandleaders that bluegrass has ever had. Truly
a bluegrass legend, J.D. and his band The New South combine the best of
hard-driving, traditionally rooted bluegrass with a thoroughly modern musical
sensibility.
Valerie Smith and Liberty Pike | $38
Feb 17, 2012 @ 8 pm
Without a doubt one of bluegrass music’s most energetic, powerful and
personable performers, Valerie Smith and her excellent band, featuring fiddler
and songwriter Becky Buller, return to the Emelin for the first time since
2001. There’s an old-time feel to Valerie’s music that belies her ability to find
exceptional songs by today’s best writers. Her vocal duets with Becky can be
wistful, emotional, funny, and, often, hair-raising. It’s a treat to have her back at
the Emelin in 2012.
