When will films play?
Main Attractions
Film Booking. Our main films play week-to-week from Friday
through Thursday. Every Monday we determine what new films
will start on Friday, what current films will end on Thursday,
and what current films will continue through Friday for another
week. All films are subject to this week-to-week decision-making process. We try to play all of our Main Attractions films as
soon as possible. (For more info on the business of booking
films and why some films play longer or sooner than others,
visit our website.)
When Will a Film’s Run Start?
After we decide on Monday (Tuesday at the latest) what new
films will start on Friday, we immediately let you know on our
website and on our hotline.
We’ll send you an email message every Tuesday as to what
is coming and going on Friday. (Sign up by emailing us at
comments@AmblerTheater.org.)
If there is a particular film that you don’t want to miss, call
our box office (215/793-4970), and leave your name and
telephone number and the particular film that you want to see
(on the answering machine is ok). We’ll put that on our “Film
Call List,” and then we’ll call you on the right Monday and tell
you that your film is starting that Friday. (Two requests: please
leave a telephone number where you have an answering machine, and please don’t request every film on the flyer.)
And When Will a Film’s Run End?
This decision happens by the same process – we decide on
Monday which films will end on Thursday. Again, we immediately let you know on our website, on our hotline, and in our
weekly email messages.
Make Sure That We Have Your Email Address
We can keep you up-to-date on all our events and scheduling
via our weekly email notices. Visit our website to sign up, and
then stay plugged into our latest programming news.
Special Programs
Our Special Programs are scheduled for specific dates and
times, which are listed in this PREVIEWS brochure. Check our
website and hotline for any additions or changes.
MAIN ATTRACTIONS
Volver
Spain – 2 hr – Pedro Almodovar
With subtitles
Pedro Almodovar continues to explore
the feminine mystique of mothers and
daughters. VOLVER is a lush tale about
a mother’s return to her hometown
after her death to fix the problems that
she couldn’t resolve during her life. The
enchanting Penelope Cruz lights up the
screen in yet another Almodovar triumph.
The U.S. vs. John Lennon
USA – 1 hr 38 min – David Leaf and John
Scheinfeld
THE U.S. vs. JOHN LENNON examines
the life of an amazingly influential
individual and how his role as both a
musician and political activist influenced
a generation’s view of America.
Interweaving historical footage and
interviews, this fascinating film explores
the Vietnam era through the lens of
today.
Pan’s Labyrinth
Spain – 1 hr 52 min – Guillermo del Toro
With subtitles
PAN’S LABYRINTH is the darkly beguiling
journey of a precocious young girl in
war-torn 1940s Spain. A fairy tale not
even remotely intended for children,
this entrancing magical-realist drama
concocts a menacing spin on Alice in
Wonderland. With a combination of
gritty war realities and fantastic dream
sequences, this stunningly original film
is powerful and moving and well worth
the violent, scary ride.
The History Boys
Great Britain – 1 hr 50 min – Nicholas
Hytner
Adapted from the blockbuster play, THE
HISTORY BOYS centers on the battle
for the hearts and minds of a group
of young pupils at a British grammar
school (high school in England). The
ensemble cast is superb and consists of
the same boys who played the roles on
stage. This is a lively and innovative film
full of comedy and pathos.
Notes on a Scandal
Great Britain – Richard Eyre
NOTES ON A SCANDAL presents a
tangled story of friendship between
two female teachers played with pitchperfect skill by Cate Blanchett and
Judi Dench. A relationship of mutual
admiration turns into one of jealousy
and betrayal as dangerous secrets
threaten their lives. A superb and
suspenseful drama about love, envy,
and loyalty.
Perfume: The Story
of a Murderer
France/Germany – 2 hr 27 min – Tom
Tykwer - In English
German filmmaker Tom Tykwer (Run Lola
Run) takes a surrealistic turn in this
long-anticipated film about a young man
with an extraordinary sense of smell. His
obsession to create the ultimate scent
comes at a very high price – namely,
serial murder. Set in 18th century
France, PERFUME is a remarkably
audacious film that is visually stunning
and artistically challenging.
MAIN ATTRACTIONS
Little Children
The Painted Veil
Venus
The Namesake
Miss Potter
The Good German
USA – 2 hr 17 min – Todd Field
This powerful, wryly funny, and piercingly
sad film is serious American filmmaking
at its best. Examining the emotional
lives of a group of suburban characters,
LITTLE CHILDREN is sharply co-written
and impressively directed by Todd Field,
and features nuanced performances
from Kate Winslet, Patrick Wilson,
Jennifer Connelly, Jackie Earle Haley, and
Noah Emmerich. A surprisingly funny and
quietly stunning film from the director of
In the Bedroom.
India/USA – 2 hr 2 min – Mira Nair
Mostly in English
From acclaimed Indian director Mira
Nair, THE NAMESAKE is a thoughtful film
about family, love, and self-discovery.
It’s about two generations of an IndianAmerican family – the parents who
moved from Calcutta to the U.S., and
their son who struggles to reconcile
his American identity with his cultural
heritage. This fine film is an affectionate
and touching portrait of one family’s
journey to a new life.
USA/China – John Curran
Naomi Watts and Edward Norton
star as a middle class doctor and a
society girl in this visually lush 1920’s
period piece set in Hong Kong. Their
unhappy marriage is given a chance
at redemption when they undertake a
deadly journey deep into the heart of
China. Featuring a transcendent score
from Alexandre Desplat, THE PAINTED
VEIL is adapted from the novel by
W. Somerset Maugham.
Great Britain – Chris Noonan
Renee Zellweger stars in the title role
of this biopic about Beatrix Potter,
author of the Peter Rabbit stories and
other children’s books. Director Chris
Noonan (Babe) is well-versed in the
milieu of imaginative fancy, and he deftly
presents this story about creativity and
the workings of an artist’s mind. It is
also about a woman trying to realize her
dreams in Victorian England. With Ewan
McGregor and Emily Watson.
A MBLERT HEATER.ORG
Great Britain – 1 hr 34 min – Roger
Michell
This charming British comedy revolves
around two seasoned actors whose lives
are thrown into chaos when a young
woman comes to visit. Peter O’Toole, still
charismatic and silver-tongued, scores
a bull’s-eye with his funny (and randy)
lead performance. Wry British humor
and keenly observed human behavior
make this funny and touching film a
small gem.
USA – 1 hr 45 min – Steven Soderbergh
Elegantly photographed in black and
white, THE GOOD GERMAN is a sleek
and stylish thriller about an American
journalist in post-WWII Berlin who
becomes embroiled in a mystery
involving his former mistress. Visually
appealing and smartly written, this latest
offering from director Soderbergh is a
conscious attempt to make a film in the
style of the golden age of Hollywood.
With George Clooney, Cate Blanchett,
and Tobey Maguire.

IMPROVING YOUR THEATER EXPERIENCE
Here are a few of the planned improvements: new 280-Seat Auditorium with original 1928
ornaments and details restored; new Concession Stand with Full Service Business Center;
and repaired Theater Canopy. These renovations will: double our capacity to over 500 seats;
increase the number of weekly feature films and special programs; provide more space for
community events; and create a perfect setting for corporate and community meetings.
Stay tuned for updates on our construction schedule and progress.
THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS HELPED
There are so many people to thank for making this possible: our members, friends, local
companies and foundations. We particularly acknowledge the extraordinary generosity of our
federal, state, county and borough public officials. We look forward to formally acknowledging
ALL of our donors after we open our newly restored 280 seat main auditorium in 2007.
Gifts are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

A NOTE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
THANKS TO OUR MEMBERS
We want to thank all of our members for your wonderful support of the Ambler Theater throughout the year. We have

bring you the best movies and special events and filmmaker appearances.
OUR CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
It’s been 3 1/2 years since we reopened the theater, and we’re getting very close to starting work in our front auditorium.
We need to raise a final $150,000 to achieve our $1.7 million capital campaign goal to restore the 280-seat main
auditorium and to undertake other much-needed repairs to our facility.
Please take a moment to read the Capital Campaign information in this issue of PREVIEWS. We are so grateful for the
depth of the generosity thus far by individuals, foundations and municipal, county and state agencies.
I look forward to sharing news with you as we prepare for construction, and look forward to having the space to bring new
and exciting programs.
OUR 4TH BIRTHDAY
We are also fast approaching our 4th Anniversary on March 1st, 2007. We plan to hold our annual birthday Oscar Party
on Sunday, February 25, 2007.
