This fundraising effort was the beginning of a unique private-public partnership. Thanks to the efforts of our founders in 1980 and to the leaders and donors who followed in their footsteps, the Hillsborough Schools Foundation (HSF) has allocated over $50 million dollars to help close the gap between shrinking government funding and the high quality education that we in Hillsborough have come to expect for our children. Left to right: Leslie Ragsdale, President, 2015-2016 Laurel Miranda, President, 2014-2015 Cynthia Foster, Executive Director The 2014-2015 school year has been tremendous for our district, our schools and the Foundation. We have carried on the HSF tradition of collecting the essential dollars that have become a reliable cornerstone – currently 15% – of the school district’s operating budget. A greater investment in education has significantly raised property values in our town, which in turn generates more funding for our schools. The impact of these additional funds for our children is real: • Our district continues to be ranked among the top serving a record number of students – 1,546. 1% in California while 86 •O ur 4 schools combined have received awards, including 7 National Blue Ribbon Awards, 26 California Distinguished Schools Awards, 29 Kent Awards for Innovative Programs, as well as California’s Gold Ribbon Award presented to Crocker Middle School this year for its signature practices. It is exciting to be part of a school district with a 35 year tradition of giving back to the community while paying it forward. Our children benefit, as does the next generation. We thank you for being a part of this culture of giving and ask you to renew your support to help us reach our goal of 100% community participation in our Annual Giving Campaign. The HSF donor list recognizes individuals and businesses who donated to our 2014 – 2015 campaign as of June 30, 2015. We have made every effort to list each name correctly, and we apologize for any errors or omissions. Please email info@hsf.org or call the HSF office at 650-344-6685 with any questions or corrections. Again, we extend our sincere gratitude to all our donors for their continued support of excellence in public education. 11 A COMMUNITY HONORING TRADITION Hillsborough – small town, big heart Hillsborough is a small town of only 3,700 households; we do not have a business district, or even sidewalks. But what our town does have is residents with high standards and big hearts. Grandparents, parents and neighbors show their support for our awardwinning public schools all year long. This is a tradition that spans generations. Our community is committed to paying it forward and ensuring that future Hillsborough generations receive an excellent education. The Associated Parents’ Group (APG) of Hillsborough Schools honors individuals who have made significant contributions to our community and to the lives of our children. Congratulations to the 2015 winners: Community Care Award, Ron Frankel (left) and Citizen of the Year, Lilli Rey (right). The Lester Chun Band Room was unveiled at a community event recognizing and honoring the remarkable contributions of former Band Director Lester Chun. Upon his retirement, we welcomed Tana Barnett as Crocker Middle School’s Concert and Symphonic Band Director. The Hillsborough Concours d’Elegance, the longest running Classic Car Show in the world, celebrated its 60th year this past summer. Bringing our community together, the Hillsborough Concours delights and wows grandparents and children alike, while continuing its long-standing tradition of benefiting our award-winning public schools. “ The Citizen of the Year and Community Care Award celebration showcases Hillsborough’s passionate commitment to volunteerism and the exceptional education of our children. ” Congresswoman Jackie Speier The Dick Villa Turkey Trot tradition is alive and well at Crocker Middle School! Over 70 Crocker graduates, spanning more than 30 years, participated in the First Annual Alumni Race. 12 HILLSBOROUGH SCHOOLS FOUNDATION Parents and community working together in partnership to raise funds, foster volunteerism, and enable excellence in education Trends in Giving: HSF Allocation to Hillsborough Schools ($ Million) 4.0 4.0 3.5 3.5 3.0 3.0 2.5 2.5 2.0 2.0 1.591 3 .2 01 3.216 3.540* 2005 2006 2010 2011 2014 2015 0.500 2000 2001 0.322 0.350 0.200 1981 1985 1.0 1.0 1980 1.5 1.5 Innovations Lab (iLab), West School 2015 0.0 0.0 1986 1990 1991 1995 1996 0.5 0.5 * Includes a one-time $40K allocation to enhance Traffic and Safety at our schools Want to stay informed and connected? • Follow HSF on Facebook • Visit our website @ hsf.org • Join hillsboroughtogether.com, a local online community brought to you by TownBright HSF Revenue and Support ($’000) 2014 - 2015 Annual Giving $3,614 Events 397 Strategic Partners and HSF Underwriters 175 Fund-A-Need (Traffic & Safety) 41 HSF Gross Revenue & Support $4,227 Less Fundraising Expenses (259) Total $3,968 2013 - 2014 $3,686 473 207 95 $4,461 (287) $4,174 With more than 250 active volunteers raising money and coordinating communitybuilding fundraisers for HSF, we are proud to report that management and general fund expenses are 10% of contributed and earned revenue. 13 YOUR 2014–2015 Celebrating HSF “ The Hillsborough Schools Foundation has a tradition of enhancing the educational program of our community whether it’s science, technology, math or the arts.
