LabID Event: Purpose
• To calculate proxy measures of CDI events,
exposures, and healthcare acquisition, facilities may
choose to monitor Laboratory-identified (LabID) CDI
Events. The main proxy measures are included in a
table at the end of this presentation.
• Populates a smart-form that will help them submit to
NHSN and comply with January 1 CMS requirements
with minimal IP time.
• ICHE, June 2012: Identified the population (MRSA, VRE, C.
diff.) as a proxy measure for HAI that have a shorter
median time to hospital readmission and increased
frequency of readmission within 30 days.

Seven Steps
1. Request Object Identifier (OID) from NHSN
2. Confirm NHSN Location Classification for all
locations for which you intend to submit LabIDs
3. Create Monthly Reporting Plan(s)
4. Review and update all „Incomplete‟ LabID forms
5. Enter Denominator Data (Patient Days &
Admissions for LabIDs in NHSN)
6. Generate CDA
7. Upload CDA to NHSN
