This time it was held in Stockholm, Sweden. This project is SCA Energy´s own project. Otherwise they also establish wind mill farms in cooperation with other partners, such as Eon. This is a solution that many have waited for and now we can transport CuePoles in pieces for very easy assembly on site. On the 12-14 of November it is time for AfricaCom again, the largest meeting place for the Telecom industry on the African continent in Cape Town, South-Africa. I think the above describes a bit of the essence of CUE DEE today, fast developments of new products together with customers or products developed from internal ideas fully developed on our own. Also the focus on marketing and sales that we always have had but now further strengthened by the increase of resources. Lars Olofsson, President www.cuedee.com 8 cue pole africa.com mRRU clamps for micro sites 6 SCA/TELECON Secondly we are presenting a new Cue Pole which is a CUE DEE developed product which we think fits the market demands very well with it´s environmental friendly approach. Now in this new version with a much better possibility to export the product due to the modular system with about two meter long pieces that are built together at site. We think this will be big seller in the market. We are also presenting two new employees both in the area of sales and marketing which shows our ambition for further growth. Best regards Designer assignment 4 green world conference This edition is really exciting. First of all we are very proud to present a new range of brackets for Ericsson´s mRRU´s. Then wind measurement at higher levels is needed, this correlation is the main reason why SCA Energy established their highest wind measurement mast to date in September 2013. “We can estimate, but never really be sure of what to expect at higher altitudes. This is why we this time invested in one 140 m mast and two 120 m masts from CUE DEE. The highest mast is strategically located in order to give representative data for the largest area possible in the park. All masts are of course equipped with measurement equipment on different levels”, says Henrik Karlsson, Project Manager at SCA Energy AB. Higher and higher First 140 m mast The 120 m masts at the site called Björnsjöbodarna in northern Sweden are constructed of K-600 strong modules. The highest 140 m, the first CUE DEE mast of this height for SCA Energy, has a base of K-900 up to 78 m where a special frame carries the rest of the K-600 strong sections up to 140 meters. SCA has previously been using CUE DEE masts of heights up to 120 m. 140 m mast gives more reliable data CUE DEE is developing and marketing innovative solutions for the global WIND AND telecom industry. These include masts and towers 6 This project is SCA Energy´s own project. Otherwise they also establish wind farms in cooperation with other partners, such as Eon. Ice and snow is of course a very important issue at this new location where there is winter for almost six months a year. The CUE DEE masts’ slim design and good resistance to ice load will be advantageous in this case. Winter data crucial “While the winter season is the most important one, from energy production point of view, we really need to get reliable winter wind data and we must rely on the equipment to produce them also in the harshest weather conditions. This is also why we have different kinds of instruments that also are heated and ice classed”, Henrik Karlsson explains. After one year´s measurement SCA Energy will perform the first wind analysis with data from their new masts. The measurement will then continue another year for a final evaluation. “Maybe we will demount the masts after this time, maybe the measurement will continue. It is too soon to tell.” SCA Energy plans for wind turbines No.of wind turbines: 190 Location: Björnsjöbodarna, Stugun in Northern Sweden. Topography: 12 000 ha (120 square km), five different production areas, 300-500 m above sea level Power output: 665 MW Wind measurement: Okt. 2013-2015 Establishing: Around 2015-16 Operation: Around 2020 Project up-date: Currently wind measurement is running in connection with further negotiations, permit process and other preparations. Diameter: 440 mm Modules: 5.4, 3.6, and 1.8 meters. Five standard heights: 10.4-17.6 meters (including radome). Antenna assembly: in a top cone of fiber glass, all accessories pre-mounted inside the hollow pole. Potential best-seller worldwide Material: Spruce veneer, top coat oak. Coating: Protective coating as standard, other alternatives possible. Thanks to the new modular build-up the CuePole has potential to be a best-seller worldwide. “We have already made pilot installations in Norway and have new orders for around ten poles.” Attila Fabian, Sales Manager Telecom at CUE DEE, is very enthusiastic about the new CuePole, a telecom monopole made of wood. “The demand for a telecom pole that can blend in is huge in urban areas all over the world. This is a solution that many have waited for and now we can cost efficency transport CuePoles in pieces for very easy assembly on site.” Foundations: Different foundations solutions available for ground or rock mounting. “This is a solution that many have waited for” The CuePole was introduced a few years ago and caused lots of interest. There where though two major setbacks. The pole was manufactured in one piece (causing some transport issues) and the pole supplier decided to close down. “After intense searching we found a new supplier that had lots of experience in producing similar wooden poles, but in easy-to-handle modules, to the energy industry. Together we have adapted this technique and created a new CuePole – stronger, better and with much better logistic prerequisites”, says J-O Hemmervall, R&D Manager. “We also made a bending test, but we did not manage to crack the pole before the metal bolt on the tractor broke down. But of course we will continue to challenge the pole to make sure that it will last in different climates and so on.” The CUE DEE R&D department also works hard to develop a complete set of different foundations, new coatings and accessories to the new CuePole. News are released in a fast and steady pace, please turn to CUE DEE for the latest up-date! Tests continue “Based on the experiences from the energy industry we are positive that the strength and durability of the wooden pole at least matches a similar one of metal. The supplier has a pole that has been buried in the ground for over 20 years and only the outer layers of the veneer are affected (the new CuePole has a total of 20 layers)! The modules are thread on top of each other and then bolted together. All equipment is preassembled on the inside prior to the assembly on site. Recyclable and carbon dioxide neutral material. Manufactured of high quality spruce veneer from Nordic countries. Topcoat made of oak from central Europe. The glue used during the manufacturing process is also fully degradable, leaving no hazardous residues. Esthetic impression with many design possibilities. Different coatings possible, making it possible to use the pole as an architectural element, matching the surrounding environment or making an artistic statement of its own. Multiple uses Different kinds of lamps, signs, flags or other equipment can be adapted. Maybe a nice wooden bench around the base of the pole? Camouflaged telecom capacity. No-one needs to know where the antennas are, less optical impact of telecom equipment in urban areas. Secure installations in urban environment The installations are safe and hidden. No risk of vandalism on installed equipment. Light-weight solution • The CuePole is significantly lighter than a corresponding one in metal. • Easier to handle and install. • Logistic advantages • Low weight and the modular system makes it easy to transport the poles all over the world. He is 38 years old, has an education in economics and a solid background within sales, most recently at Elektroskandia in Stockholm where he worked with telecom sales. “It feels like a very exciting opportunity to take on this new challenge. At CUE DEE I will work with a limited number of products, compared to my old job where I dealt with some 250 000 articles”, says Bahram Larsson. “While working at Elektroskandia I noticed that the CUE DEE products are very popular and I think that I have joined a winner.” One of his first assignments will be to establish a cooperation with the Norwegian company Otra, which is a sister company to Elektroskandia, regarding logistics and supply of CUE DEE products in general and the Tele 2 rollout in particular. Otherwise his main market area will be the Nordic countries and the Baltic countries. “While the other key account Sales Managers Patrick Hedlund and Attila Fabian will focus on key account customers such as Ericsson and NSN, my job is to serve the installers.” New office in Stockholm In connection with the recruitment of Bahram, CUE DEE also establishes an office in Kista, Stockholm, which will be his “home base”. The office will also serve as a hub for other meetings in Stockholm and as a temporary workplace for CUE DEE employees, close to the airport. father, whom his Finnish mother met in Munich, Germany. His last name Larsson (a very common Swedish name) was given to him when his mother married a Swede that she met in Moscow, Russia. Bahram was brought up in Finland, moved to Sweden when he was nine year old, and still speaks Finnish. “This might come in handy while we are aiming to intensify our sales efforts in Finland too”, says Bahram. Personal Bahram Larson lives in Stockholm with his fiancée and likes to take part in different sport activities in his spare time. He has been a quite active soccer and floorball player. He still plays, but on a more recreational level. The name Bahram Larsson is an unusual combination. These include masts and towers 10 African telecom market “The African market is very expansive and interesting, but there are lots of challenges – for the acting operators and also for us as suppliers of site hardware.” Patrick Hedlund, Sales Manager Telecom, gives us a market orientation regarding the SubSaharan countries, 50 of them to be precise, with a population of over 800 million speaking around 1000 different languages. Reverse expansion “Of course this enormous area is very diverse, but there are some things in common. There are two major operators, MTN and Zain Airtel, operating in 19 countries. Everywhere the need for basic or enhanced telecommunication is great and the governments are struggling to achieve the most for the money. Typically there is very poor infrastructure, which makes the development almost reverse to the more industrialized countries: the telecom expansion comes first, also in areas where there are very poor roads and no electrical grid. This fact makes it very difficult and expensive to establish and operate telecom sites. This is why MCR solutions are very interesting in Africa, supplying the sites with solar or hydro electricity and using satellites for communications.” Site managers “Another interesting development is the site sharing where special companies manages the sites and rent them out to one or more operators. One example is American Towers that according to their website today owns and manages 55 000 telecom sites in the USA and in Africa.” Hello Africa, CUE DEE calling On the 12-14 of November it is time for AfricaCom again, the largest meeting place for the Telecom industry on the African continent in Cape Town, South-Africa. CUE DEE will take part in their distribution partner Elektroskandia’s stand with sales representatives Patrick Hedlund and Attila Fabian and the CUE DEE product portfolio, focusing on clamps, brackets and towers for the African market. This is the same arrangement as last year and both parties hope for lots of attention also this year. The AfricaCom theme is 2013 “Building Africa’s digital economy” with a focus on Wimax and cost efficient networks. Speaks for CUE DEE “There are several aspects that speak for CUE DEE in Africa. We offer an interesting MCR site solution, our high quality products are well suited to cope with the climate and the easy assembly is also very advantageous in cases when the assembly personnel has less training. On the other hand our solutions might be considered a bit too expensive (at least in the short run). This is why we cooperate with our logistic partner Elektroskandia in Africa in order to find fitting technical solutions and to establish a good supply chain.” Attila Fabian and Patrick hedlund Key Account Managers Telecom at CUE DEE CUE DEE is developing and marketing innovative solutions for the global WIND AND telecom industry.
