We once again enjoyed record attendance! FUNdraiser We want thank you all for supporting FCH. Our annual fundraiser, “Giving Hope”, exceeded our Enjoying the reception in the Metropolis Ballroom expectations. Without your continued support and generosity this would not have been possible. Vlora, then 21, and her two brothers Alban and Mentor, then 20 and 19, were on their own to face the challenges of a new life in a new city. Though not the type of family unit typically served by FCH, Sister Carrie recognized the need as well as the great potential in the family and brought them into the program in early 2006. Connie and Tim Wayman served as mentors for 18 months, assisting the family with challenges that any young adults face on a daily basis while celebrating successes as each member of the family became United States citizens and responsible members of the community. Flash to 2016. Vlora is now a successful dental hygienist after completing necessary schooling and internships and is expecting her second child with husband Blendi. Alban works for a building manager at an upscale Chicago condominium (John Cusack lives there) and lives with his wife, Emine, and baby boy. Mentor owns a painting and decorating company, was married to Luisa in 2014, and recently had a baby girl. The Waymans still see their “extended family” a couple of times per year and all are pictured here at a gathering at Vlora’s and Blendi’s in November. While the family most probably would have succeeded without the aid of FCH, the organization provided them with rental assistance and relationships with adults that they could trust as pseudo-guidance counselors and sounding boards. Both the family and mentors would be quick to admit that the experience enriched all of their lives and continues to do so today. 8 News from Faith Community Homes • February 2016 “Giving Hope” Annual Fundraiser at Metropolis a Huge Success Frontier Days Supports Faith Community Homes The Frontier Days Committee selected Faith Community Homes to receive some of the proceeds from last year’s successful event. This generous donation is being used for our Car Ministry Fund that helps families in our program with needed car repairs. We all know that in order to earn an income, we have to go to work, but if the car is not working, getting to work can be a real challenge. Many thanks go to the Frontier Days Committee for their support with this need. At our event, we honored one amazing individual, George Egner, and three wonderful organizations, The Women’s Circle of the First Presbyterian Church, The Kiwanis Club of Arlington Heights, The Society of St. Vincent DePaul. Their caring outreach has benefited our families for several years. We are truly grateful for their continued support and service to our families. (continued on page 3) FCH is Recognized as the Non Profit Organization of the Year At the Annual Installation and Awards Dinner on January 22, 2016, the Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce announced that Faith Community Homes was selected as the Non Profit Organization of the Year for 2015. Charles Warner, Executive Director accepted the award on behalf of the Board and all the volunteers and supporters of our mission. This is truly a great honor and recognition of the work we do by the business community. I want to thank each of you for the outpouring of generosity you shared with FCH in 2015. It is greatly appreciated and so meaningful to our families. I am very excited about 2016 and our ability to serve an increased number of families. Through your generosity and the expanded commitment of one of the supporting churches, we will be able to serve more families and increase the services provided. It is simply amazing and gratifying to see so much support come from so many people. Between all the helpers we have and the donors, Faith Community Homes is truly a community of caring, dedicated people who have faith that together, we can all help and make a difference. We exceeded our goal for fund raising with our December Appeal Letter that many of you responded to. Your support is greatly appreciated and helps us bring families to a more secure existence.
