Within 20 minutes of Tumbleweed Lodge, the Missouri
River holds one of the best migratory flights of Canada
geese in the country. Each hunt gives you the opportunity
to take Greater and Lesser Canada geese, snows, and blues;
either decoying or pass shooting the bluffs. The license
fee is $75.00 (subject to change) and the goose option
is $150.00 per hunt . Thanks in part to an agreement
between private land owners in Hughes county and the
Dept . of Game, Fish, and Parks, non-residents are able
to obtain a license over the counter instead of a random
drawing system. We recommend booking between the
3rd week of November and December 31 for the
Waterfowl option.
EXPLORE SOUTH DAKOTA’S
ULTIMATE HUNTING EXPERIENCE!
Thank you for the opportunity to offer you one of the finest upland bird
hunts the Midwest has to offer! Each year we provide our guests the
opportunity to hunt pheasants in vast numbers last seen in the 1950’s.
Sharp-tail grouse, prairie chicken, and Hungarian partridge also provide
a challenge for those seeking the “Grand Slam of the Dakota’s”.
Our private ranch-style atmosphere is well suited for the discerning
sportsman. We have more than 10,000 acres of habitat including native
grassland, corn and sorghum fields, shelter belts, creeks, and slough bottoms to ensure ample cover for all upland game. All of this is accessible
just by stepping out of the lodge. We are family owned and operated, and
have been involved in agriculture for more than 40 years. This gives us
the edge it takes to manage our land for the production of upland game
as well as crops. We truly enjoy the opportunity to share our abundant
resources with you.

“Tumbleweed Lodge has the reputation as one of the premier pheasant destinations in S.D.
From its 1st class accommodations to its extensive habitat-management program and high
bird numbers, Tumbleweed rates with hunters looking for quality gunning. I truly was
impressed by every aspect of Tumbleweed, and you can bet that I'll be recommending your
lodge to anyone looking for a first-class South Dakota pheasant hunt .”
Ralph Stuart – Editor in chief, Shooting Sportsman
“Thanks again for a great hunt for my friends. Many have never seen South Dakota’s type
of landscape and farming. All were impressed by your farm, game, guides, family and great
hospitality. Several people on the trip already want to go back next year. Please tell your
whole extended family that it is a pleasure to see them all and share their hospitality.”
Bryant Barnard, M.D. - Wenham, MA
“Absolutely the finest experience I have had! Please extend my appreciation to the entire
support staff. You have truly done it right”.
Toby Buck - Pierceton, IN
“The moment you arrive at Tumbleweed you know you’ve come to a special place - a wild
place.”
Chuck Weschler - Editor of Sporting Classics
“The fantastic habitat that the lodge goes to great lengths is painstakingly planted with just
the right mixture; making it a pheasant paradise. I could actually hear them cackling every
morning while lying in bed!”
T.R. Hendrick - outdoor writer, The Bird Hunting Report
If it is a family hunting adventure you’re looking for, we welcome you to bring your son or daughter to a hunt
that the whole family will cherish (non hunters
are welcome). Each hunt is set up to be exclusive,
with no mixing of hunting parties that are greater
than three. For the first time hunter, we have a
professional, state certified hunting instructor
available by request .
Many of you know that one of the most enjoyable
parts of the hunt is admiring the finesse of a hunting
dog. Our guide staff takes pride in maintaining
the professional quality instilled in our Labs. We
also have kennel facilities available for your
favorite hunting partner to share in the thrill of
the hunt . Let us know in advance if we will be
hosting your dog.
