Collecting and dropping off students at school during school hours
All students arriving late to school or departing early need to be signed in or out at the office.
Once this is done, office staff will organise for your child to be taken to or collected from class.
We ask that parents don’t go directly to their child’s classroom or walk around the school
looking for their child .
Start and end of day procedures
A reminder the school does not have staff on duty before 8.30am in the morning. If you do
need to drop your child off prior to this time please contact the school to ensure we will have
staff at the school. On some days the staff may be at a breakfast meeting and not return until
the start of the school day at 8.30am. At the end of the day if you are picking up your child can
you wait in the courtyard until the first bus is called and then if you would like you can go to
your child’s class to collect them. Otherwise the bell will ring at 3.10pm for all students being
picked up to go to the courtyard or top gate to meet you.
Until next week
Peter
Reminders for next weekHats are to be worn by all students when outside at recess and lunch times

INFORMATION FOR PARENTS:
Live Theatre comes to Kalianna
It was fantastic to see all of our students this week attend the live
theatre performance held in our courtyard. The show was titled
‘Bully Bull Ring Show’ and had a message for all aged students that
bullying is not OK.
The show also reinforced strategies for students to use to stop being
bullied at school. Teachers also during the week after the show
followed up with lessons in their rooms on ‘bullying’.
The show was presented by Tony Bones Entertainment who are a
national touring theatre company owned and operated by qualified
teachers.
Our next live performance “Heroes & Villains” has also been booked
for Term 2, Thursday 22nd May.
PRIMARY LEARNING CENTRE NEWS:

us a chance to change our weekly

We go on the school bus each Tuesday afternoon
with our Big Buddies.
MIDDLE LEARNING CENTRE NEWS:

competition.
Students are learning how to fill in forms online
and are taught cyber safety procedures.
LATER LEARNING CENTRE NEWS:

Later years students in
homecrafts

riding a 2 wheeler
bike!!!
Each Friday afternoon the middle and later years
students choose a fun activity for the term. The
activity is something that is not usually happening
the classroom. Lego robotics, Zumba, playing board
games, learning the guitar, carpet bowls, personal
care, jewellery making, and energy breakthrough
training.
PHYS ED NEWS:
We are moving into Hockey at the moment
with classes taking their time learning control
and team work. Team work is our major
focus in Term 1 and with our hockey
introduction, Miss Ellis’s class are
starring. Derek seems a natural born
Goalie, not even letting any goals
through. Seth was great at his
control, always stopping and
settling first. Phoebe kept her eye on the
ball the whole time. Jack loved drawing a defender
near, only to pass it to a team mate who had made space.
Miss Howden’s class got into the spirit very quickly and showed their skills very confidently. Control was soon a skill
the girls had down solid so after practising the “strike”, we brought in some short game style situation. They
responded wonderfully and while scratchy, used all the skills we have been learning over the last two weeks.
FOOTY SEASON is here!!!!!!!
Not the oval ball, I am talking about real football. Soccer is a fantastic sport to introduce your child to if you are
looking at something. All clubs in Bendigo have strong community ties and pride themselves on their Junior
Programs. Sport can be the great leveller sometimes and while the professionals make soccer seem a mixture of
extreme fitness and amazing feats, Bendigo’s Junior Programs are built around inclusion, fun and participation.
Players learn basic skills like dribbling and balance, striking and teamwork. Soccer is such a great introductory game
because the skills learnt are the fundamentals of most sports we play in mainstream society. With the cricket
seasons drawing to a close it is time for the Winter Sports to return to us. Should you be interested in any sporting
avenues in the local area, here are some possible contacts for you to think about.

It would be a little rude of me not to mention our cricketers and the wonderful years they had.
Mitchell was in top form towards the end of the season taking wickets and knocking up an even 40 in one knock.
Mr King finished his year off strong with 22 and a wicket.
Mr Rick and Ricky are both playing final this weekend.
Mr Brendan and Mr Brown scored 1 between them on the weekend and are glad the pain is finally over.
HORTICULTURE NEWS:
Hi everyone another beautiful week
out in the gardens of Kalianna. The
students have worked very hard and
they should be proud of what they
have achieved. Some of these things
are:
 Mr Roach’s class did some planting in the garden beds at the front
of the Primary Learning Centre.
 Ms Fitzgerald’s class assembled and filled more garden beds for the
front of the primary wing.
 Ms Prior’s class had a visit to McDonalds Nursery to purchase plants
for the outdoor teachers’ area.
 Mr King’s class completed and
marked the kingpin court.
That’s all for now and until next week
Cheers from the Hort Man
