Assembly
Today we welcomed Jacinta Allan, Member for Bendigo East and Maree Edwards State
Member for Bendigo West to Kalianna where they attended assembly and presented the
student awards and then stayed for a morning tea with parents. We were pleased to hear
their commitment to the master plan and rebuild of our school if Labor is elected.
World Teachers Day
Today is World Teachers Day and I would like to acknowledge what great teachers we have at
Kalianna School and appreciate all the time and effort they put in to educate and support your
children.
Funeral
Today many staff at school attended Kay Tamblyn’s funeral. Kay was a valued member of staff
and has left many memories for the staff who did work with her. During the week I was told of
the great contribution she made to the Christmas carols run by the Eaglehawk Lions Club. Kay
will be sadly missed.

Eaglehawk Lions Club
Thank you again to the Eaglehawk Lions Club who this week gave us a cheque for $1,000.

RECIPE OF THE WEEK:
SPANISH OMELETTE
INGREDIENTS:
3 tablespoons olive oil
3 large potatoes, peeled and diced
1 large onion, finely chopped
6 rashers rindless bacon
4 eggs
200g (7oz) frozen peas, thawed
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
(Chefs Tip – Use bacon pieces available in the deli section of the supermarket, instead of
rashers, to save time)
METHOD:
Heat the oil in a non-stick frying pan and fry the potatoes and onion for 25 minutes. Grill or fry
the bacon until crisp, then cut into bite-sized pieces and set aside.
Beat the eggs and stir in the peas and bacon bits, then pour into the pan and season well.
Cook over a gentle heat for a further 15 minutes. Grill for 5 minutes, cool then cut into wedges
to serve.
PRIMARY LEARNING CENTRE NEWS:
In room 3 we have been very
busy with two new additions
arriving in our classroom. The
first addition was our new
pet bird who we named
‘RIO’. He has a combination
of yellow and green feathers
and is very tame. We are all
taking it in turns to feed him,
change his water and clean
out his cage.
The second addition is of the human variety and
his name is Owen. He has settled into our
classroom at lightning speed. He loves Minecraft,
IPad’s and has a liking for sharks. (We are all
hoping he doesn’t bring one in for ‘show and tell’).
Yesterday we said goodbye to Miss
Ailish. She has been helping in our
classroom on a Thursday for most of
the year. We had a celebration and all
made cards to give her. We will Miss
Ailish and hope she enjoys her next
exciting adventure.
MIDDLES LEARNING CENTRE NEWS:
This week Miss
Howden’s class have
been busily writing,
singing and creating
videos for a parody
song for the popular
5 Seconds of
Summer track She
Looks So Perfect.
Check out some of
these pictures from
the video clips they
have been making.
Just letting you
know my birthday
will be on the same
day as the Kalianna
Karnevale
LATER LEARNING CENTRE NEWS:
With 5 weeks until the VCAL Kalianna Karnevale, we have been
busily preparing and organising.
The students have been working really hard at pulling
all the plans together.
Preparations include:
 designing and folding brochures
 making posters to promote the Karnevale
 making props for the scary haunted house
 decorating masks to sell
 making lucky dips
 making OH&S posters for the Karnevale to
ensure everyone is kept free of harm.
We have so many great stalls and activities planned for our
Karnevale, we can’t wait for all our families and friends to come and
enjoy it with us!!
PHYS ED NEWS:
So we travelled down the highway,
With good company and some tunes.
En route up to Mildura,
And to explore the old sand dunes.
Though the temp gauge kept on climbing high,
Twas 38 degrees in the shade.
The sand was swapped for some waves,
Waves, pizza and lemonade.
Ranfurly was our place of rest,
Of water, 30 litres drank.
Our heavy heads hit the hay,
In our beds all of us sank.
Cricket began with a blast,
Though the rules were always changin.
We fought long and hard, winning the first,
Of the wars we had been wagin.
And so the heat kept belting down,
With no cool change in sight.
Stacie had the water cold,
We all needed respite.
Bruce had sausages sizzling nice,
Oh what a chef he would make.
We were all having a rest,
LUCKY AZZA SAW THE SNAKE.
Day 2 began and another win,
The team has hit its straps.
Won 4 from 5 and the cups in reach,
We can’t afford a lapse.
rd
3 is called and it’s not our name,
It means we’re half a chance.
nd
Swan Hill come 2 , we’ve won, it’s ours,
Mr Brown has started to dance.
The sun was hot, oh how we cooked,
The K’s, the effort for hours.
Our Kabee’s ruled and fought as one,
All Abilities Carnival……..OURS
