Opening Statement from Each ISOM Video Session
Opening Statement from Each ISOM Video Session
Christian Ministries from around the world have come together to create the
International School of Ministry® (ISOM®). These teachings have been developed
to help the Church in many nations, enabling Christian believers to understand
their faith and become servants of Jesus Christ.
Equipping Locally on a Global Scale
he International School of Ministry® (ISOM®) is a discipleship and
leadership-training tool produced by Good Shepherd Ministries
International. Over the past decade, ISOM has become the world’s largest
video Bible school. It is designed with the primary objective of enabling local
pastors around the globe to turn their local churches into ministry training
centers. It is estimated that over 12,000 pastors are training at least 200,000
students in more than 140 nations. Individual training through iPod®, online
and other technologies is also a growing part of the ISOM vision.
The strength of ISOM is its faculty. A
few of the better known names who
teach on the ISOM include Jack
Hayford, Joyce Meyer, John Bevere,
T.L. Osborn, Reinhard Bonnke, A.R.
Bernard, Ray Comfort, Marilyn Hickey,
Ray Comfort with Berin and Lisa
Willie George and Brian Houston.
(A full list of courses, instructors and topics starts on page 3.)
The ISOM consists of high-quality video teachings recorded specifically for
the ISOM project. These were captured from dynamic, wisdom-filled ministers,
who impart their life messages from a position of understanding and experience.
Some of the world’s most respected teachers were chosen to participate. The
main criteria used for requesting a teacher’s involvement were integrity,
passion, anointing, sound doctrine, ministry fruitfulness and global vision.
The ISOM is an international tool. It currently consists of 160 sessions of video
curriculum that comes with student workbooks that match the video lessons.
A key aim of ISOM is to provide training in the mother tongue of each nation.
Because of the unique bilingual format of the ISOM recordings (English and
the live interpreted language), the material is able to be easily translated and
is now available in over 60 of the world’s major languages. From Mandarin
Chinese to Peruvian Quechua, ISOM can now span the globe with uniformity
and cultural sensitivity.
ISOM isn’t just bilingual. An edited Express version for English
speaking countries has also been developed. The Express format
removes the original live translation and cuts in half the class
time needed to run the program. These language options
enable great flexibility of use. Locations of ISOM schools span
the spectrum from US-based mega-churches to refugee camps
in Africa. ISOM is truly a global equipping tool.

The International School of Ministry (ISOM) is often mistakenly seen as being just
another helpful product. What many miss is the vision that drove it to be created.
ISOM’s founders, Berin and Lisa Gilfillan, were originally working with well-known
German evangelist Reinhard Bonnke. Using their training and background in television
and journalism, their tasks were to document the salvations, miracles and healings
at Bonnke’s giant crusade events. It was during their time with Bonnke that they
became heavily burdened to see those vast numbers of new converts discipled.
Berin & Lisa outside of ISOM headquarters
During two years of study under Dr. C. Peter Wagner at Fuller Theological Seminary,
Berin and Lisa learned a strategic missions truth. Wagner convinced them, through
research, that the most effective evangelistic strategy under heaven was to plant new
churches. It was also during the Fuller season that Berin studied a local church in Alaska
that had sent out over 1,000 of its members, in teams, to plant new churches.
Berin & Dr. C. Peter Wagner
Their strategy was simple: • turn the local church into a ministry training center
• turn the local church into a church planting center
The ISOM is more than a product. It is a practical vehicle to help the Church
fulfill an end-time strategy and vision for the Kingdom of God!
Following Fuller, Berin and his family headed for a season of missionary work in
Nigeria, West Africa. Using an English video curriculum put together from a number
of respected ministries, they experimented with a unique training approach in
Nigeria. They registered students and helped pastors start church-based training
centers inside local congregations. The results were beyond all expectation. During
an 18-month period, amidst political and economic turmoil, they registered over
4,000 students and started 140 training schools. What was even more significant
was the powerful transformation that the Word of God produced in the lives of the
students. Although the teachings came through video, a powerful anointing was
transferred from the veteran ministers who taught the curriculum to the believers
who sat under their instruction.
While in Nigeria, Berin and Lisa’s hearts turned to other nations of the world. They
knew if the program worked in West Africa, it would also function in Latin America,
China, Russia, India and even in developed regions like North America, Europe and
Australia. In 1994, they returned to California to create the ISOM, a project that has
often been called the training equivalent of the Jesus film. This is because the material
was created with the ability to easily be translated into any language on earth. The
initial recordings took 20 months and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Today the ISOM still maintains its original two goals of turning every local church on
earth into a ministry training center and then into a church planting center. The
people at ISOM believe that God wants to bring about a mass training of laborers
for Christ to use in His end-time harvest. This conviction drives the ISOM vision every
day and has inspired the ministry’s slogan equipping locally on a global scale.

Ministry Module
(32 video sessions)
We have recently compiled a
new module for students interested in further ministry training.
This is designed to compliment
the ISOM but can be run as a
stand-alone program if need be.
Learn from veteran ministers
and missionaries as they pour
their hearts into these practical
sessions. You will learn everything from how to prepare a sermon to how to minister in a relevant and godly way.

Women of the World
(33 video sessions)
In observing the global Body
of Christ, we discovered that over
60% of the Church is female.
God’s daughters form the backbone of the Church and yet they
are often the least appreciated
in God’s Kingdom.
In response to this need, we
produced a curriculum for the
Women of the World (WOW).
The teachings are done by women and for women. The first WOW
volume has 33 sessions and is
designed to encourage, empower and equip God's ladies to become effective in their lives for
Christ.

Languages & Strategic Partnerships
Available Languages
There are ISOM schools in more than 140 countries and in over 60 languages. Of the
12,000 plus locations where ISOM is being used around the world, only about 5% are in
the Western World, and close to 60% of these schools are in religiously-persecuted nations.
ISOM’s ease of implementation enables rapid multiplication growth, but that is only a
part of the picture. ISOM’s proliferation worldwide has been mostly accomplished through
strategic alliances with others. Good Shepherd Ministries International (GSMI), ISOM’s
parent organization, partners with numerous like-hearted ministries/individuals who are
passionate about reaching and teaching spiritually-hungry people in distant lands. Licensing and Regional Distribution Centers
For those who have a missions vision, it is possible to obtain a license allowing the
duplication of certain ISOM materials. These are granted at the discretion of the leadership
of GSMI and permission is renewed each year based on faithful representation of the
ISOM program. The one-time license cost is $1,900 USD per language and pertains to a
designated geographical region/nation of the world. This enables a ministry to integrate
ISOM into their ministry’s vision. As a result, some ministries have started more than 1,000
ISOM schools under a single license. Those holding valid ISOM licenses are called Regional Centers and more than 100 of these
exist worldwide. GSMI is able to refer local contacts from different nations to these
Regional Centers and is committed to serve and expand these partnerships. Please contact
GSMI if your ministry is interested in starting multiple ISOM schools in a certain nation
or region. (Note: License agreements are available mostly for developing nations and are
not typically available for Western countries. ISOM Video and related materials are not
included in the $1900 licensing cost.) New Language Translation
If you have a heart to see ISOM translated into a new language, GSMI would love to
partner with you to complete that language. It costs about $15,000 to get each new
language translated. Depending on the leading of God and the need for a particular
language, GSMI may step out in faith with a partnering ministry if at least $5,000 can be
initially raised. Since ISOM was designed to train and reach unreached peoples, new
languages are the foundation for progress and vision. Please contact us if you are interested
in helping with a new language.
Go to isom.org/language for an updated list.
Major Missiological Barriers Crossed with the ISOM
1. Language barriers are overcome.
5. The cost factor is minimal.
2. Unlimited numbers can be trained simultaneously.
6. Political hindrances are removed, as training can easily
go underground.
3. The training can take place in any location in any country.
4. No foreigners are needed on site to conduct the training.
Training can be done by the national leaders alone.
4
7. There is control over the content, doctrine and spirit
of the material being taught.

Leader’s Integrity
SESSION 1: Integrity of Heart
INTRODUCTION
There are different qualities that constitute a good
leader. Some of us possess some of those traits and
abilities such as:
2. Here we come to integrity of heart as it is
first mentioned in the Bible.
3. This story (Genesis 20:1-6) introduces these
ideas:
1. Special creative skills
a. Honesty from the tongue
2. Intellectual grasp
b. Truthfulness in the mind
3. Managerial ability
c. Honesty with yourself
4. Prophetic vision
d. A heart that will not violate trust
5. Magnetic personality
6. Spiritual zeal
7. Supernatural gifts
None of us possesses all of those gifts. But almost
always, when people look at great abilities for leaders,
they look for things that can be seen. I want to talk
about the things that cannot be seen, and no degree
of skills or dynamics can substitute for these things.
I am regularly asked by leaders, “What is the secret to
success in leadership ministry?”
The supposition is that the hours totaled in
Scripture and prayer may be the key. Of course,
these are important, but I am persuaded that
nothing exceeds the importance of cultivating
a heart of integrity. A heart of integrity has to do with
the heart from which prayers are spoken and the Word
of God is preached.
4. All of these undergird a leader that can be
trusted.
•
Integrity of heart is the phrase that
wraps all of them in one package.
5. It is interesting that in this story we are
taught integrity in a setting where a man of
faith has violated honesty.
a. But a pagan King responded with
integrity.
b. The lesson here is clear.
c.
I may not be a person of great
revelation or insight, but I can still be
a person of integrity if I respond to the
things God does show me.
6. God shows us things in various ways.
a. In His Word
b. By circumstance
The most important thing for any leader is the matter
of integrity of heart.
c. By His Spirit dealing privately within us
The text introduces us to an idea that recurs several
times in the Old Testament.
e. He corrects us.
LESSON OUTLINE
I. THE FOUNDATIONAL PRINCIPLE (GENESIS 20:1-6)
A. Some scholars have called this principle:
The Law of First Usage.
1. The first time an idea appears in the
Bible, it unveils the way that idea applies
throughout the whole of the Word.
12
These are the notes from the program. You may use
them to follow along with the sampe DVD or online.
d. He convicts us.
B. God’s confrontation with Abimelech and his
response (Genesis 20:3-5)
1. The first time in the Bible integrity is
mentioned as pertains to the heart, God is
coming to speak to a man on the basis of
what he doesn’t understand.
2. Integrity of heart has to do with two things.
a. There are always things I don’t know
or understand. God will help me in the
face of those things I don’t know or
understand.
b. There are things I do understand. If I
violate those things, God won’t come
and correct me for those things.
• This is a frightening truth.
C. The Lord’s reply and the principle this reveals
(Genesis 20:6)
1. God patiently understands when our
ignorance produces innocent failure for lack
of wisdom.
2. God said, “The reason I’m here to stop you
is because I know you are acting without
knowledge or without compromise of your
own understanding.”
D. Issue: The inverse/opposite of this is contained
within this concept.
1. God holds us responsible to walk in the light
of the understanding/revelation we have.
2. Illustrations
a. Leader who was pursuing error
b. Another who was pursing financial
irresponsibility
c. Another who was pursing an immoral
relationship
d. Each one expressed something of a
sense of divine tolerance or exception to
his case. Why?
3. Answer: When integrity has been violated
from the outset, God will not intervene
until judgment eventually accrues. God
only warns, instructs, or corrects where His
intervention is allowed by reason of the
honest quest of the individual to walk in His
way.
4. The key is to respond immediately whenever
the Lord deals with you and you have not
recognized what you were doing.
5. This story makes it dramatically clear that
there is possibly no more essential trait or
value to be sought and maintained in a
leader’s life than integrity of heart.
II. A DYNAMIC WORD (PSALM 25:20-21)
A. A word study on integrity unfolds ideas which
can help us recognize how integrity is to be
maintained.
B. Old Testament “thom”: idea of wholeness or
completeness
1. Illustration: In mathematics we speak of
whole numbers as contrasted with fractions.
2. Integrity of heart describes that attitude of
heart that disallows the slicing away of full
honesty with God or with oneself through
supposedly minor deviations.
a. This is done through rationalizing:
providing an excuse to myself for
compromise.
b. This is also done through selfjustification: arguing that my case is an
exception and that “God doesn’t take
seriously (He accepts) my compromise.”
C. Practical examples
1. Engaged in a conversation: a violation of full
honesty
•
“Ping”
2. Inner correction of the Holy Spirit: “grieve
not” (Ephesians 4:30)
3. Ephesians 4:17-32
a. Full range of verbal purity, attitudinal
constancy, refusal to flavor the truth,
refusal of sexual indulgences of any
kind, refusal to give place to anger or
unforgiveness
b. Neither give place to the devil
(Ephesians 4:27)
13
III. DYNAMIC OBEDIENCE TO PRINCIPLE
A. David, a man after God’s heart (of integrity)
2. With each treaty came a new princess to seal
the political bond.
•
1. David’s words: “Teach me Your way, O Lord. I
will walk in Your truth; unite my heart to fear
Your Name” (Psalm 86:11).
2. Two steps:
3. Concept: All of us are house builders.
a. I will to be teachable.
•
b. I will commit to walk in what You show.
c. Result: “Thus, Lord, You can keep my heart
in one piece.”
3. “Keep my soul, and deliver me; let me not be
ashamed (embarrassed) for I put my trust in
You. Let integrity and uprightness preserve
me, for I wait on You (listen for your voice)”
(Psalm 25:20-21).
B. Under David’s leadership, the boundaries of Israel
were extended to their widest limits.
1. Incapable to patrol its boundaries, the
question arises, “How can I preserve my
kingdom?”
2. He makes the above prayer (Psalm 25:20-21):
“You, Lord must preserve me.”
IV. TRAGEDY FOLLOWING DISOBEDIENCE TO
PRINCIPLE
A. Remember Solomon’s original prayer.
1. “Therefore, Lord God of Israel, now keep what
You promised Your servant David my father”
(1 Kings 8:25).
2. God’s response (1 Kings 9:3-5): “I have heard
your prayer . . . I have consecrated this house
which you have built to put My name there
forever, and My eyes and My heart will be
there perpetually. Now, if you walk before Me
as your father David walked, in integrity of
heart and uprightness . . . then I will establish
your throne . . . .”
B. There was a stark contrast between Solomon’s
and David’s pathway to solving the problem of
defending boundaries.
1. Solomon’s choice was diplomatic solutions:
alliances.
14
Jerusalem became filled with the
idols brought by these treaties that
were designed to assure personal and
professional security.
We are building families, congregations,
ministries.
4. The key to a home, a church, or a ministry
that lasts (that God will perpetuate) is
wrapped up in our will to perpetually sustain
a heart of integrity.
V. THE PATHWAY TO OBEDIENCE
A. The plural form of integrity (thom): Thummim
•
God has given a picture of our maintaining a
heart of integrity.
B. The high priest’s breastplate: Urim and
Thummim.
1. No one knows exactly what that was made
of, but we know how and when the Urim
and Thummim was consulted.
2. Exodus 28:30a: “And you shall put in the
breastplate of judgment (decision-making
unto a divinely guided verdict), the Urim
and the Thummim, and they shall be over
Aaron’s heart.”
3. Example: Quest for a pure priesthood: “Wait
until a high priest stands up with the Urim
and the Thummim” (Nehemiah 7:65;
Ezra 2:63).
C. How it was done
1. Rabbinical literature suggests an answer.
2. They would go up before the veil and say,
“God, show us what Israel shall do.”
CONCLUSION
Whatever the case, a clear picture is given us of the
importance of a leader’s maintenance of a heart of
integrity.
If we will let that Thummim of the heart abide faithfully,
we will walk in obedience. Kingdom boundaries can be
extended, ministries become effective, boundaries are
preserved with blessings, and ministries stand strong
through the integrity of the heart.
GROUP DISCUSSION
1. Discuss various qualities that we look for in
determining a good leader in the ministry.
2. How do these good qualities relate to integrity
of heart?
3. How can we respond with integrity when we are
confronted with the following two instances?
a. Facing things we don’t know or understand
b. Violating those things we do know and
understand
4. Pray for one another, as well as the Christian
leaders in your country, that the Holy Spirit
would guard your hearts with integrity.
SELF-STUDY
1. What lessons can you learn from the first
occurrence of the phrase “integrity of heart” in
the Bible?
2. What ideas does the phrase “integrity of heart”
convey?
3. How does God reveal His will to us?
4. What does God expect from you as He reveals
His will to you?
a. Explain how this is illustrated in David’s life
(Psalm 25:20-21)
b. Explain how this is illustrated in the high
priest’s breastplate
(Exodus 28:30; Nehemiah 7:65; Ezekiel 2:63)

How to Start
Please use the following as a guideline
to begin an ISOM® in your local church:
Enroll
Transfer of Credit
If you are the pastor of your church, challenge your members to be
trained. Your promotion of the vision of the school is critical to its
success.
If you are not the pastor of your church, show and submit all materials
to your local pastor for approval and support.
Pray and seek God about your personal involvement with the ISOM.
Remember that this is more than a program; it is discipleship, and
consequently must be directed by His Spirit.
Upon approval from your local pastor, begin to promote the ISOM
to people in your church, or to those who you know will be
interested.
Secure a location and time for the classes, as well as all necessary
equipment.
Launch
Set a date to begin the school (Remember to allow at least 2 weeks for
order processing with ISOM).
Ask potential students to sign up, and pay the student registration
costs.
Call ISOM with your order and payment information (all major credit
cards accepted).
Expect a 1 - 2 week delivery time after your order has been placed.
Upon receipt , verify your order by checking videos, workbooks, etc.
For further information please go online to
isom.org/transfer or call (909) 478-3330.
isom.org/transfer
Personalize
Develop your own style for your classes. A dress code and punctual
starting times are recommended. Attendance for each class session
needs to be recorded.
Look over the Facilitator’s Guide (included with school materials) for
further instructions.
Bathe everything in prayer as you begin your classes, and trust God to
accomplish his purposes and plans throughout the lessons.
Trimester Completion
Call and order the next trimester at least 2 weeks before your start date.
Track students and grades using the formatted spreadsheet on the
Facilitator’s Disk included with the Facilitator’s Guide.
Report student information to ISOM after 3rd and 5th Trimesters.
Visit isom.org/transfer for those students interested in transfer of credit.
16
ISOM Courses transfer to a number of
different institutions, including those listed
above. Each institution has it own fee
structure and deems the amount of credit
towards its degrees the ISOM curriculum
provides. These institutions generally
recognize the training to be equal to their
respective Associate Programs.
Credit for ISOM Program (US Only)
In the United States, the ISOM does not
function as an accredited training school.
Rather it supplies curriculum materials
for churches and other ministries to run
their own training programs.
When ISOM materials are utilized in a
training capacity according to a prescribed manner, then the course material
can be submitted to certain schools and
universities (above) which may or may
not accept the training for transfer credit.
Please contact our office for advice on
how to use ISOM materials in the most
advantageous way possible for your
school or personal study.
