On December 19th, Tim and Linzy Collins hosted a FundRAGER, also known as a party with a purpose, to commemorate a “business trip” bon voyage. Thanks to a great venue provided by the owners of Wonderland Ocean Pub and the generosity of family, friends and local businesses, the gathering raised over $6,000 for the MARSOC Foundation. In true Tim and Linzy fashion, nothing was left to chance. Guests were treated to some delicious food and drink, music, dancing, and a slide show capturing candid moments from Tim’s professional and personal life. Tim recognized fallen Marines and Sailors of MARSOC by reading each of their names and following with a moment of silence. The MARSOC Foundation would like to thank Tim and Linzy for continuing to spread the word about the MARSOC Foundation and its mission. These are two amazing people who are loved by many and support a wide range of military-based charities! The MARSOC Foundation would also like to thank: Brendan Huffman, Owner of Wonderland Ocean Pub, for providing the perfect venue for the event; Tim and Linzy’s family and friends, who both volunteered and attended the event; and Raffle Prize Donors, including SciFly, Pacific Coast Skydiving, West Coast VIP Gaming, Swarovski Crystal, Michelle & Damien Photography, San Diego Padres, Hard Rock Hotel San Diego, Performance 360, Aaron Kruse’s That Bus, Scott Tucker’s Be Financially Fit, Everyday California, VAVI Sport and Social Club, Bullets2Bandages, Slacker Radio, Haute Spa Salon, Bellini Beauty Bar, The Cravory, PB Fish Shop, Green Flash Brewing Co., PB Local, Blind Burro, Social Syndicate, and The Local. Sacramento MEPS Dedicates Ceremony Room in Memory of Staff Sergeant Sky Mote On March 4, the Sacramento Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) honored the service and sacrifice of Staff Sergeant Sky Mote by dedicating their ceremony room in his name. The MEPS is where recruits from all branches of service come to take the Oath of Enlistment. This is the second MEPS to dedicate its Ceremony Room in memory of a fallen MARSOC Marine, as the MEPS in Santa Jose, California dedicated its Ceremony Room in memory of Captain Matthew Manoukian back in August of 2013. SSgt. Mote’s family was present, along with extended family, friends and service members who had served with SSgt. Mote. The Honor Wall in memory of The honor wall includes SSgt. Mote’s uniform and medals, his Navy Cross Citation, an SSgt Sky Mote at the Sacramento MEPS Ceremony honor paddle, bronze plaque, and a letter that SSgt Mote wrote when he requested a Room entrance lateral move to become an Explosive Ordinance Technician in the Marine Corps. In his letter, SSgt. Mote stated, “You work hard and you get to see the results of your work in the faces of the Marines and Sailors who were threatened. I want to do this job so I can be trained to be the one people count on when a hairy situation presents itself, and to jump in and remove the threat. Every Marine joins to make a difference, and I see EOD as an exciting, challenging and rewarding way for me to make a difference.” David Benjes & Dawn2Dusk Deliver Once Again! For the third year in a row, the winter mountain bike challenge known as Dawn2Dusk provided the MARSOC Foundation with a fun venue to raise funds and awareness in the Arizona mountains. The December 12th event challenged mountain bikers to tackle the trails of Mount McDowell Regional Park, as well as deal with some interesting twists and turns courtesy of Mother Nature. Thanks goes out to our amazing Arizona-based group of volunteers, who pitched in from Thursday to Saturday, helping with pre-race logistics, race day support, selling raffle tickets, and peddling coffee and donuts! Race director David Benjes put together a super event, which helped to raise over $6,100 for the Our volunteers helped with race set up, parking, packet MARSOC Foundation! Page 4 Winter 2016 LtCol Oliver North to Speak May 13th in Scottsdale Arizona at 5th Annual Evening with the MARSOC Foundation Hosted by the Free Wheel Foundation! In 2012, the Free Wheel Foundation partnered with the Scottsdale Gun Club to host the 1st Annual Evening with the MARSOC Foundation, an event that raised over $30,000 and enabled the MARSOC Foundation to provide support following the loss of 7 MARSOC Marines during July and August of that year. Over the past 4 years, the event has raised over $215,000 for the MARSOC Foundation. This year, guests have the opportunity to purchase a VIP Experience that includes a meet and greet with LtCol Oliver North, as well as an exclusive VIP Swag Bag. LtCol North will address the crowd prior to the Live Auction after the VIP Reception. Food trucks, coffee carts, and vendor displays will be placed at the venue. Events include remarks by LtCol North, a raffle, silent auction and live auction. Silent auction items will be placed online for mobile and online bidding (so if you won’t be able to attend, you can still bid on some great items!). This year’s event will be raising funds for the MARSOC Foundation’s 2016 Resiliency and Remembrance Event, a multi-day event for the families of fallen MARSOC Marines and Sailors that nurtures existing friendships amongst the families and current and former MARSOC personnel, as well as creates new connections through the annual gathering. The 2015 inaugural event was held in California, and this year’s event will be held in North Carolina, with the intent being to alternate between the East and West Coasts. The event honors MARSOC’s fallen heroes, as well as keep the families connected with one another and the MARSOC community. Registration is required, so please visit http://bidpal.net/eveningwithraiders to purchase tickets! The day’s events began by celebrating the Marine Corps Birthday, complete with cake cutting and reading of the Commandant’s USMC Birthday message. In recognition of Veterans Day, the first lap of the race included the carrying of our Nation’s flag, along with flags representing each branch of service. 108 brave souls started the race, with the top male and female finishers completing 115.7 and 96.4 miles respectively in 24 hours! Congratulations to everyone who participated in and sponsored the event, and we’d like to give a big shout out to Race Director Brandon Wilson for including the MARSOC Foundation once again as the event’s charity partner!
