Theresa May is to become the UK’s prime minister on Wednesday
evening second lady after Margaret Thatcher to be at 10
Downing Street. David Cameron announced he would quit after
Prime Minister’s office.
While Mr Cameron speaking outside his residence 10 Downing
Street, said, he would offer his resignation to the Queen on
Wednesday afternoon at Buckingham Palace.
Mrs May’s only rival to succeed Mr Cameron as Conservative
leader, Andrea Leadsom, pulled out earlier on Monday which
left the road clear and open for the next Lady to be the UK
PM.
Mr Cameron, PM since 2010, decided to quit after the UK’s
Brexit vote.
In a brief statement outside Downing Street House No#10, Mr
Cameron said Mrs Leadsom had made “absolutely the right
decision” to stand aside. He also added that he was
“delighted” as Mrs May, the home secretary, was to succeed him
as Prime Minister.
He said a “prolonged period of transition” was not necessary,
and added: “So tomorrow I will chair my last cabinet meeting.
On Wednesday I will attend the House of Commons for Prime
Minister’s Questions.
“After that I expect to go the Palace and offer my
resignation.”
Mrs May as “strong” and “competent” candidate will provide
the much needed leadership which UK needs in the coming years.
“She will have my full support,” he added.

British politician who has been

the Home Secretary since 2010, and the Member of Parliament
(MP) for Maidenhead since 1997. The Leader of the Conservative
Party since 11 July 2016, May identifies as a One-Nation
Conservative and has been characterised as a liberal
conservative. May is to replace David Cameron as Prime
Minister of the United Kingdom on 13 July 2016 after his
formal resignation to the Queen, becoming the second female
prime minister, following Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s.
Born in Eastbourne, Sussex, May studied geography at St Hugh’s
College, Oxford. From 1977 to 1983, May worked at the Bank of
England, and from 1985 to 1997 at the Association for Payment
Clearing Services, also serving as a councillor for the London
Borough of Merton’s Durnsford Ward. After unsuccessful
attempts to get elected to the House of Commons in 1992 and
1994, she was elected MP for Maidenhead in the 1997 general
election. She went on to be appointed Chairman of the
Conservative Party and be sworn of Her Majesty’s Most
Honourable Privy Council in 2002.
She served in a number of roles in the Shadow Cabinets of
William Hague, Iain Duncan Smith, Michael Howard, and David
Cameron, including Shadow Leader of the House of Commons and
Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, before being appointed
Home Secretary and Minister for Women and Equalities in 2010,
giving up the latter role in 2012. May is the longest-serving
Home Secretary for sixty years and has pursued reform of the
police, taken a harder line on drug policy and introduced
restrictions on immigration.

FRIC (née Roberts; 13 October 1925 – 8 April 2013) was a
British stateswoman and politician who was the Prime Minister
of the United Kingdom from 1979 to 1990 and the Leader of the
Conservative Party from 1975 to 1990. She was the longestserving British prime minister of the 20th century, and the
only woman to have held the office. A Soviet journalist dubbed
her the “Iron Lady”, a nickname that became associated with
her uncompromising politics and leadership style. As prime
minister, she implemented policies that have come to be known

Originally a research chemist before becoming a barrister,
Thatcher was elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Finchley in
1959. Edward Heath appointed her Secretary of State for
Education and Science in his 1970 government. In 1975,
Thatcher defeated Heath in the Conservative Party leadership
election to become Leader of the Opposition and became the
first woman to lead a major political party in the United
Kingdom. She became prime minister after winning the 1979
general election.
