PRODUCT-QUICK-FACTS and HOW IT WORKS
ECOSUS® Multipurpose Culture Substrate is produced from 100% renewable resources. It
is very good plant compatible and owns special ecological properties no other organic
growing medium can offer.
ECOSUS® Multipurpose Culture Substrate consists of high quality humus, structure giving
wood- and coco-fibre and vitalizing activated coal. It is pre-loaded with readily plant available
nutrients and extremely effective.
ECOSUS® Multipurpose Culture Substrate is a ready-to-use, 100% natural soil to
successfully grow vegetables, flowers and trees. All you need is our soil and water!
Critical for the outstanding properties of our products is the containment of a special kind of activated
charcoal (biochar). This extremely porous charcoal with an inner surface of about 200 square foot per
2
grain (300 m per gram) is able to incorporate up to five times its own weight in water and dissolved
nutrients. The nutrients are bound strongly enough to prevent leaching but readily plant available.
The many fine pores are a perfect habitat for microorganism which are important for a good soil
activity and nutrient dynamics. Due to its high cation exchange capacity this biochar is able to bind
toxic molecules and that way protects the soil its self and prevents toxics from being incorporated into
the plants biomass. Consequently especially spices and vegetables become an increased healthy
®
diet! Once applied to soil all the above abilities stay for centuries. ECOSUS acts like a permanent
re-loadable accumulator to enhance soil fertility.
The climate positivity of our products is also reached through the contained biochar: 80% of the
originally in the woody input-material stored carbon is fixed in highly stable structures. Incorporated
into the soil they stay un-destructed for hundreds of years, not being released as carbon dioxide. This
way one ton of this special charcoal distracts more than three tons carbon dioxide from the
atmosphere – to date the only environmentally friendly and totally riskless way to sequester carbon
and to mitigate climate change!
The basic product of our growing medium is our ECOSUS® Soil Amendment, also produced
and sold by us.
ECOSUS® Soil Amendment is a pure organic fertilizer (N-P-K) with long-term-effect. The
nutrients are bound in a way that protects them from being leached out, but simultaneously
they are readily plant available at every time! Due to this the ground water is protected from
washed out nitrates and the amount of fertilizers needed for cultivation is reduced to about
the half. Even a single application does give a boost to soil-fertility for centuries.
ECOSUS® Soil Amendment contains the main-nutrients and all micro-nutrients! Because of
that the plants are able to build up stronger cell structures. Thus plants have increased
tolerance against dry periods and frost damage. Due to the same reason vegetables and
spices develop increased flavour. Flowers present themselves in more intensive colours and
smell more aromatic.
