Opening Doors to Change Lives Forever
Happiness House and CP Rochester Begin a New Relationship
From the Desk of the CEO
Happiness House has entered into an Executive Staffing Agreement with CP Rochester. I am serving as
President of CP Rochester while continuing my role as CEO at Happiness House.
The agreement has strengthened ties between the two organizations and provides for a continuum of care
to more than 3,600 individuals with and without disabilities. In addition, the creation of a more efficient administrative structure
is allowing both agencies to direct more of their funding toward the enhancement and expansion of much-needed programs and
services for children, adults, and families in the Finger Lakes and Western New York areas.
At the present time, both Happiness House and CP Rochester are operating as separate entities, retaining independent Boards
of Directors. However, the agencies are conducting strategic feasibility studies to determine when and how a more formal
partnership will mutually benefit the organizations and the individuals they serve. While a full merger of the two organizations is
expected, it isn’t likely to occur for at least one or two years.
Until then, the leaders of Happiness House and CP Rochester are moving forward with their goals to enhance the care for
individuals they serve, to better position themselves among other providers, and to solidify their future in the community. In the
months following the change in presidency, leadership from both organizations have met as a group, with individual directors
meeting more often, to develop work plans around areas of collaboration, sharing of resources, and referrals. The group hosted
an intensive retreat involving additional managers from both agencies. The goal of the retreat was to flesh out the details of the
collaboration and lay the framework for its success.
The two agencies are looking at a variety of business, program, and service areas where they can mutually benefit, and have
prioritized those deemed most critical. Included at the top of the list are electronic medical records systems, staff development
and training, purchasing, and technology. In addition, the organizations are exploring each other’s service offerings and building
the foundation for developing a shared referral base. The team hopes to finalize the strategic plan by the end of this year.
I look forward to sharing more as the strategic plan takes shape.

Living Center Set to Break Ground
FLUCP, Inc./Happiness House is preparing to break ground on a new, non-certified residence equipped with 20 apartments. This
Living Center will serve adults with traumatic brain injuries, adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities, or any individual
who is eligible for affordable housing. The Happiness House Living Center is a 20,000 square foot, two story wood frame and brick
building, which will be built on our current campus, located on .96 acres at 5415 County Rd. 30 in Canandaigua, NY. This 20 unit
home will have 18/one bedroom units at 650 sq. ft., 2/two bedroom units at 900 sq. ft., each unit will have a living room, small
kitchen and bathroom. This Living Center will be equipped with a community room, kitchen, laundry facilities and office space
as well.

knowledge of chickens, read the story Chicks and Chickens by Gale Givens and helped
friends create a "Chicken Clucker" craft that they were able to take home. Her visit helped
Mr. Jeff's Farm unit come to life for the friends in the Red room with the sounds of 14
clucking chickens.

Jarrid E. Blades
Jarrid E. Blades, a graduate of Hobart & William Smith Colleges,
organized the Hobart Statesmen “Tackles & Touchdowns”
fundraiser for Happiness House for the first two years of what has
become an annual event. Together with the support of Athletic
Director Mike Hanna and the Hobart football team, this event has
raised close to $9,000. He currently attends Syracuse University
College of Law.
NORTHWESTERN MUTUAL RAISES DISABILITY AWARENESS
IN A UNIQUE WAY
Greg Constantino, Field Director of Northwestern Mutual, did a team building disability
awareness activity at Bristol Harbour with his staff. Each team was challenged to build
a bike, but each of the five team members worked while having some kind of disability
(not being able to speak or hear, being blindfolded, having only the use of one hand,
etc.). Once completed, the bikes were donated to four Happiness House Canandaigua
preschool students. Lynne Colacino, Linda Meritt and two of the children made a surprise
visit to Bristol Harbour, where the children selected their very own bike and provided
Greg and his staff a brief demo (riding the bikes) while giving a short presentation about
Happiness House.

TBI CAMP TURNS BACK THE CLOCK
The Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Camp at Onanda Park was a huge success this year! We had a “60’s”
theme. Some of the highlights were Meyer and McGuire, a musical duo who played music from the 60’s
era. We also had tie dying and other 60’s crafts. Despite the rain the group was able to fish and swim and
enjoy the serene Canandaigua Lake.
We featured Pudgies pizza for lunch on Thursday due to a generous donation from Marge Donhauser
(our secret Santa). We also had a wonderful barbecue chicken lunch on Friday catered by Tom Ross of
Waterloo. Thank you to the hard working Structured Day Program staff and our volunteers this year:

Founders Society
The Happiness House Foundation is a not for profit organization established to raise and generate funds that will promote,
support and augment the continuation of long term services for people with disabilities offered by Happiness House
in Ontario, Seneca, Yates and Wayne Counties. It is this mission that has led us to create the “Happiness is Helping”
Founders Society.
An endowment is an organization’s financial cornerstone, the foundation of its ability to incite progress in education,
consumer care, and therapeutic equipment. Through allowing an organization to be less dependent on unpredictable
sources of revenue, such as government aid, endowments ensure that promising programs, individuals, and initiatives
have the unwavering support they need.
Establishing an endowment is an act of great generosity and vision. Donors who decide to create an endowment do
so because they understand the significance of supporting the organization not only during their lifetime, but well
into the future. It is our privilege to recognize those who stand with us to ensure that all individuals receiving services
from Happiness House - both now and for years to come - will experience “What Happens Here Changes Lives Forever.”
