National Day of Prayer May 2, 2013 The mission of the National Day of Prayer Task Force is to mobilize prayer in America and to encourage personal repentance and righteousness in the culture. The National Day of Prayer has great significance for us as a nation as it enables us to recall and to teach the way in which our founding fathers sought the wisdom of God when faced with critical decisions. It stands as a call for us to humbly come before God, seeking His guidance for our leaders and His grace upon us as a people. The unanimous passage of the bill establishing the National Day of Prayer as an annual event, signifies that prayer is as important to our nation today as it was in the beginning. The National Day of Prayer belongs to all Americans. It is a day that transcends differences, bringing together citizens from all backgrounds. Mrs. Shirley Dobson, NDP chairman, reminds us: “We have lost many of our freedoms in America because we have been asleep. I feel if we do not become involved and support the annual National Day of Prayer, we could end up forfeiting this freedom, too. God will enlarge the vision for the co-operative ministry in which Mint Hill Baptists are involved during the two Sunday morning worship services. FROM THE STUDY OF PASTOR LEE PROCTOR God’s Message to Me in T.A.G. Recently I read Exodus 19 in T.A.G. God said “If you will listen to ME carefully and keep MY covenant , . . . you will be . . . holy . . . ” I know that I’m not holy. As I pondered what God declared would be, with what I know is, the Holy Spirit reminded me that God’s promise is conditional. I’ll only be holy after I have listened carefully to HIM. That is probably not all that is between me and the holiness that God desires for me. Indisputably, I could listen much more carefully to God. HE waits on me. The Lord will not force me, or you, to be holy apart from our desire to be holy. The only times in which I want to be unholy and sinful are those in which I go spiritually of course, thinking that some temporary and carnal sin excels the ecstasy of living in holiness. So now, in spiritual sanity, in declare that I wish to listen to God more carefully. I wish to keep the covenant HE has created with me. What about you? Prayer for Lost Friends. Recently God re-inforced the importance of persistence in praying for lost friends. HE answers the fervent prayer. I want lost friends to have the thrill of living in relationship with God, so I pray for their salvation. I want them to enjoy the blessing of realizing HE is using them, making them HIS ambassadors to people who do not personally know HIM, so I pray by name for friends who do not know Jesus. I want lost friends to revel in Christian fellowship that gives richness and sweetness to life, so I pray for lost friends. I believe Jesus died for lost people, so I want to form friendships with more lost people as a means of participating with Jesus in HIS mission of saving them. Every Wednesday night, you have the opportunity to write the name of your lost friends on the dry erase board in the Fellowship Hall; then others who are here will pray for your friends by name. That prayer time begins at 6:45 on Wednesday evening. Come pray for my lost friends; and assist me and others in praying for your lost friends by writing their name on a dry erase board. SEEK FIRST GOD’S KINGDOM AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS. You realize importance of Sunday School for seeking God’s Kingdom and HIS Righteousness. Make Sunday School a priority. Every person who wants to advance in godliness is faithfully present for the 9:45 Bible study time each week. Bring friends with you. God makes others in that Sunday School class HIS messengers to you. One of the F.A.I.T.H. teams returned recently, reporting that the woman they had visited said, “I’ve never attended a Sunday School Class. What do they do in Sunday School?” They grow in their relationship with Jesus and in their knowledge of God’s Word. I think everybody ought to go to Sunday School! What Has God Done That You Noticed? God said, “You will find ME when you seek for ME with all your heart”, according to Jeremiah 29:13. If you’ve managed to notice HIS work recently, congratulations!! Two weeks ago there were far less leaves on the trees than there are now. Who makes the leaves grow on the trees every year? A pastor friend recently was having some remodeling done at the house where they live, and discovered that the craftsman doing the work had a family member who I know. Neither the craftsman nor his family member are followers of Jesus. My friend said, “Now God arranged that. You and I can work with HIM from different directions as HE draws these people to HIM.” I’ve noticed that God has given some parents selfless love for their children. I heard some Christian lyrics to songs recently that encourage me --I still really like Damaris Carbaugh’s recording of “HE Has Forgiven Me” and recently a friend from college was used of God to cause me to hear Carmen’s recording of “Isn’t HE Wonderful.” God uses music to make me tender inside, and then HE uses other music to set my toe to tapping. Let’s get together to worship Sunday, because we have noticed what God has done. Bring your Bible and a friend and your smiling face!!
