GREAT THOUGHTS
October 2011
Kapolei Elementary, A Place of Excellence
Dear Kapolei Elementary Families,
Our students have been very fortunate to have the support of various organizations and programs. Here
are a few highlights:
James Campbell Company Donation
I would like to thank the James Campbell Company for their generous contribution of $20,000 to Kapolei
Elementary School. These funds will be used to update our technology infrastructure and purchase new
computers for our school. Thank you, James Campbell Company!
Coffee Hour
September‟s Coffee Hour was a success! The parents who attended gained information about the
Adequate Yearly Progress data and learned ways to help their child in math. Thank you to all parents
who attended this coffee hour.
I am looking forward to seeing you at our next Coffee Hour on Wednesday, October 12. The topic will
be Brain Gym and Test Taking Tips and Strategies to help our students prepare for the upcoming Hawaii
State Assessment.
Career and Read Aloud Day
Kapolei Elementary has a strong belief in the importance of reading aloud to children of all ages. To
prepare our students to be productive members of society, as well as to highlight the importance of
reading, blue and green track students participated in our first annual Career and Read Aloud Day.
On September 21, 2011 our students were fortunate to have guest readers from various occupations in the
fields of art, business, finance, health, and safety from our very own Kapolei community. Thank you to
all our guests who came to read aloud and shared valuable information about their careers with our
students. Red and yellow track will be able to experience Career and Read Aloud Day on October 5.
Thank you to all who support the students of Kapolei Elementary!
Sincerely,
Ms. Otsu, Principal

Dear Parents,
You are welcome to join your child for their breakfast or
lunch. We just ask that you not share the student’s meal
with their siblings or yourself. This is a violation of policy
guidelines set in place by the Federal Government, which
subsidizes the cost to a portion of our student meals.
Schools found violating these Federal Guidelines will be
subject to sanctions by the Federal Government.
