Choosing your venue needs to be the number one thing you arrange because without a venue there is no wedding date, without a wedding date there you can’t book suppliers. For me I knew instantly that I wanted a stately home but I need one with accommodation as I have relatives travelling from all over the UK. As a wedding planner I have helped numerous couples find their dream venue and I’m going to share with you a selection of tips on making the process easier. Top 10 Venue Finding Tips 1. Before you even begin searching sit down with your partner and decide on your budget for the venue – there is nothing worse than setting your heart on a venue to find it’s too expensive. 2. Once the budget is set write down what is important for you in a venue, does it need accommodation, or do you need a place with open grounds? 3. When viewing a venue take pictures of the following areas: Outside Entrance Function Room Ceremony Room Bridal Suite Bar Area Toilets (there is no point paying to make a room look nice if the toilets aren’t maintained) When visiting a venue for the first time it can often be overwhelming and you can forget what the room actually looked like especially if it’s a large venue with additional accommodation rooms to view. 4. Ask to view the venue when it has been dressed for a function. This will give the opportunity to check out the venue dressing supplier and help you visualise the room for your wedding. 5. Check reviews and speak to former brides. They will give you the inside knowledge on how the venue performs during the wedding, did they meet the standards? Better to know now if they deliver poor service than on your special day. 6 Ask to meet the ‘on the day’ coordinator. Some venues have a wedding coordinator who books the wedding and an operations manager for the actual functions; ask to meet this person before the wedding so you get to know each other before the big day. 7 Ask if the venue is exclusive. Will your wedding be the only one, if not how do they manage other guests of the venue? You don’t want to be paying for unwanted guests at your wedding! 8 Ask what back up arrangements they have? If you want an outside wedding, you need to be confident that should the weather not be on your side that the venue makes other arrangements that you would be happy with. 9 Check the small print. I have seen brides get attracted to a venue based on the price being advertised and it wasn’t until they began the planning process that they realised that restrictions are in place that ends up making the venue more expensive than they first thought. For example the package price is only for a certain amount of guests any extra comes at a cost, cutlery isn’t included or even the centrepieces are what the venue offers and to have your own costs more than you can afford. So always read the fine print and if you are unsure ask. 10. Most important TIP: GO WITH YOUR GUT!! Oaklands Hall This spacious venue is a former Stately Home and offers convenient location coupled with excellent parking facilities. Based in Hyde the Masonic Lodge can cater from 150 to 200 guests quite comfortably and offers a reasonably priced bar tariff for your guests. Popular restauranteur Matteo Sassanelli Jr has an established reputation for fine food with menu choices to suit all budgets! Why not arrange a viewing of the impressive facilities which are suitable for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, parties, celebrations and events of all kinds! About Weddings 5 Candy Cart Wedding Photography Want something different for your wedding guests then why not introduce them to the Candy Cart, Owned by Suzy from Suzy’s Sweet Memories her wide selection of sweets will have everyone’s mouth watering. Is It Worth To Pay For A Photographer? Throughout my years in the wedding industry the one piece of advice I have always given to my brides is research your wedding photographer, don’t just go with one because they are cheap, check out their quality of the photographs and where possible speak to former clients. Why? Ian Williams a wedding photographer tells us why. The Candy Cart is able to accommodate any colour theme with small and large sized weddings being catered for and prices starting at £150 and includes refills and the option of a member of the team staying to set up and serve. “It is vital to book an experienced professional photographer, and not rely on someone who may, or may not, be able to deliver on the day, however it may unfold. A professional photographer will be experienced in photographing in awkward lighting and/or locations, in rain or shine, will have spare cameras, lenses and lights with them “just in case”, and will be insured should things go wrong. Vicki from Liverpool had a terrible experience with her photographer, he turned up on the day did the shots that she asked but never received her wedding album and had to resort to using pictures that guests took to create her own album which although turned out fabulous, not having the photographers professional pictures of the special moments makes her wonder what she has missed. Fully insured and a proud member of the National Farmers Association you can be rest assured that quality is a 100% guarantee *Also available for birthdays, christenings and other private functions* Wedding Stationery Wedding invitations like your wedding are personal to you, they can range in size colours, text and design but with personal touches comes cost so it’s important you shop around and get quotes, Katie from Minuteman Press in Ashton is the graphic designer and can help you design your wedding invitation and even supply matching coloured ribbon. How you write your invitations is down to personal choice, there are the traditional text but why not go creative, there is no right or wrong just like your wedding it’s down to YOU. Don’t forget if the wedding is a few years away send out save the date first, then sort your invites out about 6 months before then post them about 6 /8 weeks prior to the wedding with allowing 3 weeks for RSVP’s to return. 6 About Weddings minuteman ad Minuteman Press in Ashton can turn invitations around with 48 hours notice so do not panic if your wedding is around the corner! What to include in your invitation? You should have the main invite itself which has the wedding announcement as well as several enclosures such as 1) RSVP card 2) Directions to the wedding venue (s) church and reception if in separate locations 3) Accommodation information such as local hotels to the venue 4) Gift information – if you are requesting specific gifts such as charity donations, information of gift registration 5) Dress code – if you want your guests to wear specific attire 6) An addressed envelope for guests to place all the RSVP’s and cards in and post directly to you Balloons and Venue Dressing In Hyde is a shop that can transform any venue into something spectacular, and offers to do so at reasonable prices. Speaking to Katie the owner of A Balloon Shop in Hyde says that “ Having balloons for the evening gives the wedding reception a party feel, and they often work out cheaper compared to other centrepieces, plus they make great distractions for kids.” With over 20 years experience and having the store passed down by her parents, Katie’s flare for creativity shows when designing a theme for a wedding. Now offering chair covers to compliment centrepieces, and being able to match fabrics to colours bringing your wedding theme to life is now easier than ever. *Also available for birthdays, christenings and other private functions* *Katie is also a proud supporter of Gift Of A Wedding* Cakes Gone are the days when the traditional white iced fruit cake takes precedence when choosing a wedding cake especially if you don’t want it. Are you a jam and sponge lover like my other half, or a chocoholic like me and the thought of a triple chocolate sponge is more to your taste. Trifles in Ashton is an award winning bakery who encompass passion and enthusiasm into all their cakes, having been a long established family run business the experience speaks for itself in the quality of the cakes. All cakes are handmade to order, so no matter what your design maybe, you can trust trifles to deliver. Cakes start at a bargain £350.00 with ribbons to match most colour schemes. TOP TIP: Cut your cake at the beginning of your wedding breakfast, and then have the waiting staff serve it as dessert with the coffee. This will save you money as you won’t need to buy dessert and it means less cake wasted. About Weddings 7 Dressing the Mother of the Bride / Groom Before you begin I always advise that the wedding couple and the mothers sit down together to outline what would be acceptable to wear and what isn’t, doing this early will save any arguments and money! It is important for the mothers to feel comfortable in what they wear but need to also respect the theme and tone of the wedding. TIP – be firm in your decision but allow for compromise. Once this has been cleared why not make a day of it, go out on a girly shopping spree and help each other pick outfits, Decisions in Ashton has a fantastic range of outfits on hand, from formal classy attire to a wash of various colours. Never buy shoes that really Wedding Advice I’m not a girly girl and hate having my picture taken at the best of times, the thought of having my photo taken for my weddings fills me with dread but I really want to capture the day HELP!!
