WHAT’S IT ABOUT?
Parents & home vs. fake freedom
and why it’s not always good to
get what you want… Lisa loves her
parents, she really does. If only they
weren’t always so worried about
her. On no account should Lisa go
along to the old mansion that is to
be made into an orphanage. But
that is precisely where Lisa wants to
go. A house without any parents –
that sounds like freedom!
Let’s be honest: What were your
favourite stories for story time when
you were a little girl? Exactly – tales
of fairies and elves or princesses.
Then you could pretend you were in
the wondrous magic world of fairy
tales… Here we encounter fairies
as small winged creatures and kind
old mothers on the one hand and as
powerful natural spirits responsible
for the weal and woe of human
beings on the other.
Martin Luther – first a monk, then
a radical reformer and finally, involuntary so, the first Protestant. What
happened to make him a heretic and
lead him to pick a quarrel with the
pope? The authors set out to follow
the tracks of Martin Luther and
demonstrate how this courageous
man rocked the Catholic Church to
its foundations and with it the entire
world as it was, and how this still
affects our lives even today.
Until recently Polly was a perfectly ordinary little girl. But ever
since that stupid tooth fell out
everything has been different. For
the tooth now emerging is not an
ordinary tooth – it’s a truly genuine vampire tooth! Polly thinks
it is amazing that vampires have
magical powers, but she is less
amused by the fact that she has to
pass an exam before she can go
and live with her family again.
Mo, his sister Kaja and brother
Jonathan get goose bumps as they
climb into the abandoned amusement park. Around them there is
nothing but empty shooting galleries, an overgrown merry-go-round
and an old Ferris wheel. Suddenly
Mo sees an old castle in the distance. The children are attracted
to it as if by magic. For it is in this
castle where Shabalu lives, and it is
he who pulls all the strings …
How does the Internet know so
much? Can one eat cookies? Am I
a different person on the Internet?
Children can find answers to these
questions and many more besides
in this stunning non-fiction book
for children. Inspired by these questions, the acclaimed photographer
Jan von Holleben created illustrations that are both spectacular and
will give you many aha! moments.

Until recently Polly was a perfectly ordinary little girl. But ever since that
stupid incisor fell out everything has been different. For the tooth now emerging is not an ordinary tooth – it’s a truly genuine vampire tooth! And Polly is
not an ordinary little girl any more but a vampire girl. When she is angry she
is suddenly so strong that she can flick that nasty Marvin Kowalke through the
air like an easy-peasy bit of snot. Polly thinks it is amazing that vampires have
magical powers, but she is less amused by the fact that she has to pass an exam
supervised by the council of dormice before she can go and live with her family
again. And so Polly leaves her home in lovely California to go and stay with
Aunt Winnie in Hamburg to prepare for the vampire exam.

Yeah, I go to Kindergarden! Fritzi is two and
three-quarters and a bubbly red-head with unruly curls. She now goes to kindergarten. And
that, Fritzi thinks, is super, for at kindergarten
there are so many things to do. Anyway, her best
friends Merle and Hamid also go there. You can
play there, have breakfast together, do handicrafts and frolic around.

Life is busy! Linus and Linda are twins and have
just had a little baby brother, Mattis. 13 short story-time stories tell us about their busy daily family
life. A walk with Mummy, going shopping or playing at home – there is always a lot going on, not
to mention the small and large problems that keep
popping up and need to be dealt with. For example when Linda finds a super-duper stick that simply has to be taken indoors – preferably into bed!
All’s well! Franz is four. Dearluise is about 11
times as old and his very dearest best friend,
babysitter, story teller, comforter and pancake
maker. With Dearluise nothing is as annoying or
scary or quite as stupid as Franz had first thought.
For Dearluise always finds a way to deal with
fears or calm anxieties, turn anger into energy
and make the greyest boredom into an adventure.
Dear Princess … Princess SkyBlue is a cheerful princess loved by all. She helps wherever and
whenever she can. Sometimes she has to protect
her little brother, Niklas, from the sock monster
and sometimes she has to help her best friend,
Lotta, in the garden. But helping is not too easy –
especially when you come up against an old
grump like dwarf Panko …

Relaxing? Not really! Dr. Brumm, Badger and Beluga want to relax and unwind. Somewhere far away
where it is nice and warm. Without further ado, Dr.
Brumm books a trip on the internet and the next day
off they go. But no sooner than have they landed on
the beautiful island of Hula Hula, Beluga, complete
with his goldfish bowl, is grabbed by a huge, hungry
albatross and whisked off to the top of a volcano! Dr.
Brumm and Badger immediately set off in pursuit to
rescue their friend and in the process have to brave
sharks, crabs and dizzily high cliffs! They manage
to rescue Beluga from the claws of the nasty bird,
but relaxation is still nowhere in sight. Not when Dr.
Brumm has booked the holiday …
Hey, wake up! Spring is here at last! One
after another, all the dormice are waking up
from their long hibernation. All, that is, but
one. This one is the little dormouse that in autumn went to bed faaar too late. Each of the
animals comes into his den and tries to get
him to wake up: the squirrel tickles him with
his bushy tail, the hedgehog lies down so close
to him that it gets uncomfortable, and the
skunk – well, the skunk does what skunks do.
But all to no avail, the little dormouse simply
goes on sleeping. Or does he? A new picture
book story about the cutest dormouse ever.

Looking for
a new home
A new experience! After spending 107
years of his life living happily and contentedly in the familiar surroundings of his home,
city crocodile Gaspard one day has an irresistible urge to set out and discover the world
beyond the city. On his wanderings, Gaspard
makes the acquaintance of thieving racoons
and wise wolves; he flies up into the skies
with a blind mole pilot and dives down with
a whale to the depths of the oceans. Every
encounter brings new surprises, and every
new fact he finds out about the world and the
diversity of its inhabitants tells him, almost
imperceptibly, something new about himself.
Where is home? The blue raven lives in the
rain forest. Here he knows his way around; this
is where his food is; this is where his home is.
But one day a terrible fire burns down the forest
and all the animals have to flee. The blue raven is
forced to venture into the unknown, out over the
open sea, without knowing where the next shore
is. When he is so exhausted that he can hardly fly
any further, he meets a blue whale who lets him
rest on his back. And finally, he really does make it
to the shore of a country in which there is a forest
similar to his own, and ravens that are similar to
him and look at him in curiosity …

Make a wish! Fairy tales are inconceivable without
fairies. They make wishes come true – usually three, to
be precise – rescue heroes from precarious situations and
watch over the peace of nature. They are to be found
everywhere there are people who believe in them.
This anthology of the loveliest classical folk tales by
Grimm, Perrault and from Nordic countries demonstrates how varied the tradition of telling stories is. We
encounter fairies as small winged creatures and kind
old mothers on the one hand and as powerful natural spirits responsible for the weal and woe of human
beings on the other. Anne Bernhardi has created the
magnificent illustrations that lead us straight into the
secret world of fairies. No wishes go unheard!
Life is exciting! The everyday life of children is full of exciting things and experiences. It is important even for very small children that there is a structure to their daily
routine, with certain regular events and activities. This very first search-and-find book
contains many situations and rituals children
are familiar with. On every page there is so
much for young readers to discover, such as
when Max and Mia get up in the morning
or go to kindergarten. The search-and-find
pictures are accompanied by simple search
tasks – an excellent introduction to the world
of search-and-find!
