Football
The football team continued their
season at Plains Farm last Friday. The
team started off with a match against St
Paul's and after a slow start to the game,
played upon unfamiliar surface of astro
turf within a caged fencing, they rallied
well. Goals from James Graham, Jaxon
Ridley and Connor Thexton were not
enough to prevent a 3-4 defeat. Better
was to come in the next game where the
team, now more familiar with the surface, outplayed Plains Farm to run out
8-1 winners. Some great strikes from
James again, Connor, Jaxon, Harry and
Jonathan were the highlights of the
evening. The team move on to their
next games to be played at English
Martyrs on Tuesday night after school.
Bernard Gilpin will also be there to play
against. If any of the parents can help
with transport please contact the office.

We are delighted to announce we have bagged £12,000 from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative.
The supermarket teamed up with Groundwork to launch its Bags of Help initiative, which saw
grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p bag levy – being awarded to
environmental and greenspace projects.
The results have been announced and we will now begin work on bringing our project to life.
The grant will allow us to build ‘The Path To Wellbeing’ on the school playing field, this will
encourage children to be active during the day by providing an opportunity for exercise for
everyone. We also plan to provide amphitheatre seating, a sensory garden along with
providing viewing windows and child friendly historical information of St Peter’s Church, the
Glass Centre plus others areas of interest.
We at Dame Dorothy Primary are delighted to receive this grant, we would like to thank all our
parents and children who have supported this event and we can’t wait for the work to begin! A
big thanks to Tesco and Groundworks for their support through the Bags of Help initiative.
Caroline Silke, Head of Community at Tesco, said: “Bags of Help has been a fantastic
success.
We have been overwhelmed by the response of our customers and the feedback has been
brilliant.
We can’t wait to see the money being put to use bringing these projects to life”.
Voting ran in store from 27 February until 6 March – with customers choosing which group they
would like to get the top award using a token given to them at the check-out in store.
Tesco estimated that around eight million votes were cast in stores across the UK.
Groundwork’s national chief executive, Graham Duxbury, said: “We have been delighted to
have been involved in the Bags of Help project. It has been wonderful to follow the projects
through the application process to the final announcement.”
