JUNIOR GIANTS FOUR BASES OF CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
YOU CAN’T SCORE UNLESS YOU TOUCH ALL THE BASES!
CONFIDENCE
LEADERSHIP
• Focus on giving 100%. Never give up!
• Think of what is best for the team
(not just best for yourself).
• Don’t let the fear of mistakes stop you.
Learn from them.
• Treat others as you want to be treated.
• Have faith in yourself, your abilities, and
your team, both on and off the field.
• Recognize the efforts of your teammates.
• Lead by the example you set.
3
• Ask questions! Questions are a great
way to get the information you need
to be successful.
TEAMWORK
• When we work together, we achieve more.
• Never let the game come between you
and your friends.
• Keep your teammates’ Emotional
Tanks full by telling them what they
are doing well.
INTEGRITY
• Recognize that everyone has an
important role to play on the team.
• Make the right choices, even if they
are tough ones.
• Be honest with yourself.
• Treat your family, friends, and teammates
with respect.
• Stand up for what you think is right,
even when others take a different path.

5 a Day!
My Nutrition
Line-up Magnet!
Time to Play!
Everyone needs physical activity to stay fit.
Try riding your bike to school or practice,
walking to the park, taking the stairs, or
strapping on your skates. Set a goal to do
these activities for 30 minutes each day.
BE A HEALTHY
JUNIOR GIANT
BE A HEALTHY
JUNIOR GIANT
It’s important for you to get at least 5 servings
of fruits and vegetables a day. All forms count
– fresh, frozen, dried, canned, and 100% juice.
Use the magnet to chart how many you eat
each week!
See how many fruits and vegetables you can
eat in one day, and track your progress on the
magnet. Choose from all forms - fresh, frozen,
canned, dried, and 100% juice all count.
Visit www.mypyramid.gov to learn more.
Soda-Free Summer!
Challenge yourself to not drink any soda
during the summertime. Aim to drink at least
5 glasses of water every day to keep your
body hydrated, especially when it’s hot
outside. Drink water before, during, and after
practice.
5
Turn Off the TV & Computer!
Challenge yourself to not watch TV or play on the
computer for more than 30 minutes each day. You’ll
have more time to play outside and use your energy
in a positive way.
Don’t Forget to Brush!
Protect Yourself!
The best way to keep a nice smile and clean
teeth is to brush twice a day with a fluoride
toothpaste. Remember, after brushing your
teeth at bedtime, do not drink or eat
anything except water.
Always remember to fasten your seatbelt, apply sunscreen,
wear your helmet, and wash your hands. You will stay safe
and healthy if you do these easy things.

JUNIOR GIANTS PARENT PLEDGE
Dear Parents,
The Giants Community Fund is thrilled to have you and your family participating in Junior Giants
baseball. More than just fundamentals on the field, it is a program that includes Character Building,
Health, Education, and Violence Prevention, with the goal to teach kids to live healthy and
productive lives. We ask for your support in these key areas by encouraging your child to participate
in all the programs Junior Giants offers.
1. I pledge to get my child to practice and games on time.
2. I pledge to use positive encouragement to fill my child’s Emotional Tank.
3. I pledge to reinforce the ELM Tree of Mastery with my child (E for Effort,
L for Learning, and M for bouncing back from Mistakes).
4. I pledge to “Honor the Game.”
The Junior Giants Four Bases of Character Development are Confidence, Teamwork, Integrity, and
5. I pledge to refrain from yelling out instructions to my child.
Leadership. These valuable life lessons help to enrich the overall experience for Junior Giants players.
6. I pledge to refrain from making negative comments about my child’s coach in my
child’s presence.
Junior Giants is a recreational program with the emphasis placed on working together and learning
from each other, not wins and losses. We ask for your help in maintaining a non-competitive
atmosphere, without keeping score during the games.
Simply said, the Community Fund is a unique organization. We are a public charity with a tie to the
great game of baseball – a sport that convenes people of all ages and from all walks of life. We are
“I WILL HONOR THE JUNIOR GIANTS PARENT
PLEDGE IN MY WORDS AND ACTIONS!”
honored to play an active role in our community, providing programs for youth since 1991.
We are now able to serve more than 15,000 children annually through the Junior Giants program. In
initiatives in health, education, and violence prevention.
This is where we ask for your help, as we consider you a member of our team and, indeed, someone
who plays a critical role in our mission of service to the community. Read with your child, offer them
healthy snacks and meals, and teach them the importance of caring for their neighbors and community
while playing baseball in a non-competitive setting.
Thank you for your time and effort in making Junior Giants successful in all areas!

Thank you for your time and effort in making these programs successful! We encourage
