Aquatics
SWIM CENTER
Located in the Sunrise Plaza complex, immediately
adjacent to the Leisure Center, the Palm Springs Swim
Center is open year round and features an Olympic-size
swimming pool.
PRIVATE POOL PARTIES /
OVERNIGHT CAMPING
Rent the pool for a birthday or other special occasion.
Residents: $50/hour; Non-Residents: $70/hour. Call
(760) 323-8272 for information.
POOL PASS
HANDICAP CHAIR LIFT
You can purchase a punch card pass for 25 visits. Passes
are good for one punch per person per card. Passes can
be purchased at the Leisure Center. Residents: $60;
Non-Residents: $75. A yearly membership fee is required.
To all our customers who may have difficulty entering
the pool from the steps or side, the pool has a very
comfortable and safe chair lift to aid you in entering and
exiting the water. If you plan to swim three or four times
per week, you might want to purchase a Pool Pass for
substantial savings.
GROUP DISCOUNTS
The Swim Center offers an hourly rate to groups of 10 or
more during recreation swim hours. A completed Facility
Use Application is required prior to event. Residents:
$10/hour; Non-Residents: $20/hour.
CONCESSIONS
A variety of refreshments and snacks is available for sale
at the Swim Center office. Kick boards and pull buoys are
available for rent at a nominal fee. We now sell goggles,
swim caps and earplugs.
Pool Safety
➤ Children can drown in an instant, even in shallow water.
➤ Don’t rely on barriers, such as fences or walls, to keep kids safe.
➤ Never take your eyes off a child near the water.
➤ Keep toys, tricycles and other children’s playthings away from the pool.
➤ Don’t be distracted by the telephone, doorbell or chores.
➤ Watch children, even if they’ve had swimming or safety classes.
➤ Don’t rely on inflatable devices to keep your child afloat.
➤ Lock doors and gates when swimming cannot be supervised.

➤ Learn CPR.
➤ Never drink alcohol or take drugs when swimming.
➤ Have a telephone installed or keep a cordless phone or cell phone nearby.
➤ Information: Swimming Pool Education Council, (800) 991-7732, will provide safety tips for
pool owners, ideas for safeguarding water areas, tips about child safety and other information.

Aquatic Exercise Program
This popular warm-water exercise program, conducted
by a certified instructor, includes exercises that improve
range of motion, promote muscle strengthening, and
increase one’s energy level. A moderate cardiovascular
segment is also included. Participants must be able to
tolerate 15 minutes of standing or walking without pain,
fatigue, or shortness of breath and be comfortable with
arm movements. This is a year-round program. Hats and
sunglasses are recommended.

Participants will increase swimming abilities, perform
proper First Aid, CPR and basic water rescue techniques
Participants are also challenged mentally with a curriculum
that encompasses all aspects of being a lifeguard by
training in the American Red Cross Guard Start Program.
Junior Lifeguard candidates will volunteer at the pool in
various programs, which gives them a chance to work
alongside lifeguards seeing them in action and learn what
they do. Requirements include front crawl (freestyle)
stroke for 25 yards, tread water for one minute, and
swim ten feet underwater.

Lifeguarding Course
The City of Palm Springs is offering a Lifeguard Training
class at the Swim Center. This four day class includes
comprehensive training in water rescues, CPR for the
Professional Rescuer and first aid skills. Participants will
learn to recognize and respond effectively to emergencies,
as well as how to prevent drowning and injuries.
Lifeguard training participants must be at least 15 years
old and pass a swim test on the first day of class: swim
300 yards (12 lengths of a 25 yard pool) without stopping
using front crawl and breaststroke; tread water for two
minutes using legs only, and retrieve a 10-lb brick from
7 feet deep and swim 20 yards with the weight, using
legs only and exit the water using a ladder or steps within
1 minute and 40 seconds. At the end of the course,
students who pass all skills and the final examination
will receive an American Red Cross Certification in
Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional
Rescuer – all valid for 2 years.

Off Track Camp
Youth Room at Leisure Center – join us in the adventure
of discovering the world of play and learning, where
preschool children can grow academically, socially, and
physically. Children must be potty trained and able to
use the restroom independently. Enrollment is limited.

Tru-Core combines exercises from Yoga, Pilates and
Martial Arts into a boot camp style program to increase
strength and flexibility, stabilize your core and increase
your metabolism. You will be proficient with each
exercise and able to maintain your program as part of
your lifestyle, no matter what your learning curve. The
exercises used are progressive allowing everyone to work
at their own level while staying with the rest of the class.
Many of the exercises are done on the floor, so you must
be able to transition independently. You will only need a
mat, workout towel and water.

This is a comprehensive, all age’s course, conducted by
3rd degree Black Belt Sensei Guy Lombardo, who
began his martial arts practice in 1982, studies in judo,

Aikido is the Japanese martial art that teaches relaxed
presence and coordination of mind, body & spirit. Rather
than fight against aggression, students learn to blend with
and then redirect aggression. Benefits of training in Aikido
includes stress management, increased overall body
flexibility, aerobic conditioning, improved physical and
mental balance and increased awareness of your
surroundings. Lessons in Aikido can often be applied to

Flyball Fun for Dogs
(Handlers 18 years or older)
This fun team sport is for the energetic, ball loving dog!
Dogs will learn to jump over a series of hurdles and
retrieve a ball from a spring loaded box. Dogs
(8 months+) must be friendly and some obedience
training recommended.

Weekly Story Times for Youth
Story Times are weekly on Thursdays and incorporate
several elements of early-learning, including: narrative
skills, letter knowledge, phonetic awareness, vocabulary
and social skills.
There are two to choose from:
Read-to-Me Story Time 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Is for toddlers up to age 5, enjoying stories, crafts and
interactive fun.
Bilingual Story Time 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Is presented in English and Spanish/Español and is for
toddlers and elementary school age children.
Weekly Teen Time Programs
Teen Times are weekly programs on Thursday afternoons
from 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. and are a time for teens to
drop-in, socialize and participate in different activities.
Whether it’s Crafternoon, Gaming, or testing their
knowledge with Trivia, there is something for everyone;
for tweens and teens in grades 6-12.
Computer Skills Classes for Adults
The Library offers a variety of basic computer skills classes
to the public free of charge. Class sizes are limited to
ensure hands-on instruction and pre-registration is
required for each class. You may register in person at

Women Running Wild 5k Run/Walk

Wild 5K Run/Walk. This event is about participation,
education and motivation. Funds raised by this event
support the City of Hope. Women Running Wild
encourages you to run or walk for those you love who
are fighting breast cancer and in memory of those
who have lost their battle with this disease. For more

All classes require pre-registration unless otherwise
noted. Pre-registration for activities occurs at the Leisure
Center, 401 S. Pavilion Way (just off E. Baristo Road)
between Sunrise Way and Farrell Drive.
Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-served
basis during office hours, Monday through Friday,
7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
All checks are to be made payable to the City of Palm
Springs. NO POST-DATED OR OUT-OF-STATE CHECKS.
Proper I.D. required.
REFUND POLICY
Full refunds minus a $10 service charge will be granted
up to one week prior to the starting date of the program.
After this time, a request for refund must be made in
writing to the Director and will be approved when special
and unusual circumstances warrant. After the second
meeting of the program or class, refunds will not be
granted. A refund application may be obtained from a
Recreation Account Clerk. After completion, submit the
refund application to a Recreation Account Clerk. Please
allow up to 24 days for processing.

For programs that provide for drop-in participation, fees
will be collected by a Recreation Account Clerk in the
Leisure Center office during normal business hours.
Before or after business hours, the drop-in fee will be
collected by the instructor of the class. Please bring the
correct amount of money to the program and sign the
receipt log. Programs may be canceled due to lack
of pre-registration, so be safe and phone first.

LATE PICKUP FEE: A late charge of $5 will be assessed for every 10-minute block after the program’s daily scheduled dismissal time. This
