Its history, since the establishment of the free port in 1719, has been marked by the granting of privileges of various kinds to all the ethnic and religious minorities that wished to settle in this trading centre. The Municipal Archaeological Museum provides a survey of the current state of archaeological research in Carnia and an up-to-date picture of the results obtained during the investigations carried out in Zuglio. Besides the Museum, one can visit the Forum, built in the Augustan Age, consisting of a large rectangular square, closed on the southern side by the building of the civilian basilica and dominated on the northern side by a sacred building.
