 Since
around 1200 CE, the city of Venice
has celebrated Carnival. The Venetian
Carnival begins on February 2 and ends
on Fat Tuesday (Shrove Tuesday).
 Carnival
which means “farewell to meat,”
is a celebration that is held prior to Lent.
Lent is the period of 40 days prior to
Easter. Carnival was first celebrated
during Medieval times.
