OUTSTANDING PICS – Carnival at CMRJ ENJOY YOURSELVES! – CMRJ NEWS is culture, CMRJ NEWS is QUIZ!! WORLD WIDE NEWS It’s Carnival time, baby! Hundred and hundreds of years ago, the followers of the Catholic religion in Italy started the tradition of a costume festival right before the first day of Lent. Because Catholics are not supposed to eat meat during Lent, their festival is called carnevale — which means “to put away the meat.” Still today, Carnival in Italy is quite famous and we can take part in this celebration also in France, Spain, and all the Catholic countries in Europe. With the influence of the French, Spanish, and Portuguese in the Americas and other parts of the world, their tradition of celebrating Carnival came with them, especially in Brazil: Carnival festivities in Rio de Janeiro and Salvador are the most famous ones. ** Lent: Quaresma Outstanding pics CARNIVAL AT CMRJ (2016) On February 5th, all the sixth-grade students and their teachers had their Carnival celebration. Their Carnival block is called “CATIMARIMBAU”. The idea of creating the block came when Teacher Ricardo Bussi de Oliveira, in 2011, at the time teaching Arts to the sixth-grade students, brought to the school context the concept of folk art. It was part of his project the creation and confection of masks by the students. The name was chosen by Teacher Sylvia Maria, at the time Arts teacher/coordinator, and comes from "Cate Marimbau", expression present in the “CMRJ cry”. Here are some pics of the event. Our gratitude to Teacher Alfeu Barreto for taking them. Answers: 1. Carnival float; 2. Flag; 3. Costume; 4. Garland; 5. Food stand; 6. Confetti; 7. False nose; 8.Clown; 9. Paper streamer; 10.
