VOLLMER OF AMERICA
Shannon Fox, Scott Reiz, and Peter Allen
showing their new booth design to longtime and
new customers. Vollmer presented the new QXD
250 eroding machine for the first time in North
America. The QXD 250 for PCD tooling takes
advantage of the new generator technology, the
Vpulse EDM, to improve processing times by up
to 30%. For carbide tipped circular saw blades
Vollmer displayed the CHD270 top and face
grinder and the popular CP200 top and face
grinder which marked two years in North
America with the show. The booth was rounded
out with a Loroch Solution K850 for HSS cold
and segmental saw blades.

MOLEMAB ABRASIVES USA
We developed recently a new specification of diamond
wheels called “Poly Gloss HD” Our new grinding
wheel is generated for flute and cutting edge polishing.
The application of these grinding wheels permits the
flute and cutting edge processing of solid carbide cutting
tools a high-gloss finish and gives you a higher
amount of stock removal per pass and polishing in
the same time which cuts down the time on the
fabrication process.

EQUIPMENT LTD.
Equipment LTD has introduced three new products
at this show:
1. We are the master stocking distributor of Stark
high speed steel saw blanks. We have over 1500
saws in stock for same day shipment.
2. We introduced our new Stark EM-620 high
speed steel saw grinder. This 4 axis machine
will grind HSS saws up to 620mm. It will
grind a triple chip saw (including chamfers)
automatically in about 15 minutes.
3. We introduced the new revolutionary NUSA
spiral grinding machine by Nordvtensili. It is
the first sharpening machine designed exclusively
to re-sharpen spiral router bits including
compression bits. The laser scanning system is
a one of a kind system that will revolutionize
the spiral grinding business.

COLONIAL SAW COMPANY, INC.
Paul Ravinski and Jeff Goltz demonstrate this
new equipment.
We have 2 new products here that we’re real excited
about (our ABM 810CNC saw grinder & UTMA
LC35eCNC 4+1 Tool Grinder) and one oldie but
goodie (MVM PX1350 Knife grinder).
The 810CNC has been around in Europe for a
while but this is the first one we’ve brought to
America. It’s a 6 axis CNC Carbide saw grinder
with a full windows PC Controller. It can do all the
common tooth geometries as well as free program
pretty much any pattern you’d like. All standard
with the machine. Because it’s a true PC you can
save virtually unlimited amount of programs and
can program a new blade while the machine is
grinding. The UTMA LC35eCNC 4+1 is an evolution of our proven LC-NC tool grinders. The +1
axis allows us to regrind a compression tool flute
and OD grind up and down shear in a single setup
now. Its also of course rugged enough to grind
wood working and milling cutters, slab mills,
roughers, and a wide variety of tooling as a full service universal tool grinder.

25th Annual WMI Workshop on Design, Operation and
Maintenance of Circular and Band Saws
Monday & Tuesday, October 14-15, 2013
Red Lion Hotel Lloyd Center, Portland, OR
Workshop Focus
The Workshop on Design, Operation and Maintenance of Circular and Band Saws will provide
you with up-to-date information necessary to increase your company’s profits by maximizing
sawing accuracy and the rate of sawing and by reducing kerf losses, downtime and sawing
equipment maintenance costs.
Issues to be explored include: economics of sawing variation and on-line sawing performance
control; impact of steel characteristics on cutting saw blade performance; circular and band saw
stiffness and stability and computer software for critical speed calculation; advances in saw
tensioning and tension evaluation; identifying what you stand to gain and lose by changing saw
design; on-line measurement and analysis of sawing performance and sawing accuracy; pushing
the boundaries of band saw performance; economics of advanced cutting tool materials and
troubleshooting procedures; key maintenance criteria which impact sawing equipment
positioning, feeding and scanning accuracy. And understanding of these principles will enable
you to analyze and improve sawing performance in your operation.
This year there will be a special session on safety and ergonomic issues in wood processing
and a review of causes of accidents and how they can be avoided.
The workshop faculty consists of lecturers from the United States and Canada, each a
recognized expert in his field. The faculty will combine lectures, video presentations and
demonstrations of computer software in order to address problems in operating and maintaining
circular and band saws, and to suggest possible solutions.
Szymani, workshop leader, has been conducting Workshops on Design and Operation of Circular
and Band Saws since 1980 in the USA and abroad and has been consulting on wood machining
problems and investigated accidents with woodworking equipment for over 34 years.
Who Should Attend
The material presented will benefit production supervisors and personnel involved with process
control and saw maintenance as well as those responsible for safety. The workshop will also be
very helpful to saw filers or saw manufacturers who are seeking to optimize saw design.

The Prez Sez...
Hi everyone. It is an honor and a privilege to serve as ISKA president
for the next 2 years. Cheryl has left some pretty large shoes to fill but
hopefully, with the help of our competent board and active members, we
can continue the growth we have seen lately.
I have been an “off and on” member for nearly 25 years with Daily Saw Service and my own
business. I have seen many changes over the years. The most recent changes are exciting.
We are trying to put more emphasis on the members and education. As a board, we look at
every event and offering with the thought “is the membership getting their money’s worth from
ISKA.” With the events at the last 2 shows and the hammering seminar, I think we’re there.
We encourage articles and topics for the newsletters and ideas for seminars. We plan on
highlighting a shop or 2 for each issue and new members.
Please feel free to contact me or anyone on the board with suggestions, criticisms or comments.
We are all listed at www.iska.org. We are members too!
