District+ Subproject - Partner Regions - Objectives and Activities - Outputs and Results Science Park Without Walls (SPWW) Concept • We operate in global digital economy • Geographies and timescales are shrinking • Next generation of entrepreneurs require new types of connectivity • City-based hubs of digital communities are key in enabling more efficient use of resources Science Park Without Walls (SPWW) Regional Initiatives • “Science Park Without Walls” regional initiative with Cisco • Driving the knowledge economy by effective partnerships, creating and supporting communities rather than constructing buildings • Connecting creative locations across the world, to provide a network facilitating global exchange to promote growth. These could/should be linked to the proposed UK Growth Hub network • The Quick Point Model Science Park Without Walls (SPWW) Digital Plaza - iCentrumTM Science Park Without Walls (SPWW) Science Park Without Walls (SPWW) District+ Subproject - Partner Regions LEAD: West Midlands, UK Birmingham City Counciil Vastra Gothaland, SE Encubator AB, Gothia Science Park Saxony Anhalt, DE State Capital Magdeburg Lower Silesia, PL Lower Silesian Innovation and Science Park, Lower Silesian Regional Development Agency Science Park Without Walls (SPWW) Objectives - Faster access to finance - Shorter time to market - Retention of local entrepreneurs and graduates in the local economy - Creation of new business opportunities through exposure to new international technology or investment partners - Development of working relationships with other European Science Parks, BICs … Activities - a feasibility study for Digital Plaza and Quick Point Model, including options analysis for developing regional approach to cross-connectivity and interactivity with global innovation, technology and finance - 2-day study visits in each partner region to initiate creation of a network of virtual innovation community - Final virtual conference to test the facilities, share the findings and make recommendations for the future Science Park Without Walls (SPWW) Outputs • 4 study visits • 4 thematic workshops and training sessions • 4 good practices identified • 1 final virtual conference • 1 feasibility study for Digital Plaza, including Quick Point Model • experience exchange with min 60 participants of study visits, workshops and the final conference Results • 8 participants in study visits • 4 regional/local public authorities and major stakeholders involved • 2 good practice transferred • 4 staff members with increased capacity • 4 regional policy addressed and improved • 1 final report detailing how the projects activities will lead to the development of a unique system of global connectivity SPWW 10 Thank you for your attention Contact: David Messenger Birmingham City Council T: +44 (0)121 ……..
