The Presidents Cockpit
March 2012 Issue 9 The Presidents Cockpit Thanks! Thanks to the members that have stepped up and volunteered for the mowing crew. Mowing is a huge undertaking and your help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you again. A special meeting was called last Saturday morning to finalize up-coming events. A fixed wing electric event will take place 7 April 2012 and Cub Scouts/Boy Scouts Learn to fly R/C 21 April 2012. Also during this meeting a new area arose. All agreed a Public Relations Officer is needed to get media attention and flyers created and sent out to surrounding area clubs announcing dates of our events. Keith Hall graciously accepted our appointment. I am sure Keith will do an excellent job. Thanks Keith. Fly safely. Those were the days!: Next Meeting: March 3, 2012 10AM June 1980 “A BIG “Sorry about that” goes to Uhli Baudrexel of Germany regarding my report in the February issue of MA that Mike Mas was the first in the world to fly an RC helicopter in sustained inverted flight. Not long after issue was circulated, I was informed that the first flight took place in Europe midsummer 1979, and that Ernie Huber had also succeeded in fliying inverted as well. And so my congrats go to the three (or more)who have pioneered inverted flight.” Newsletter March 2012 Editor’s Note Triple Creek Radio Control Club - TCRC By Keith Hall Happy New Year..again! I just finished reading an article about an RC model that weighs 214lbs! You can see it on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=cGZGQprW2Yc It’s an Airbus 380-900 with a wingspan of 19 feet and weighs in at 214 pounds! It’s powered by four turbines. This thing wouldn’t fit in my living room! Wait, it wouldn’t fit in my garage!! It is beautiful! But I want to know when is BIG, too big? What’s the purpose of building a plane that big? Is it like Mt. Everest? Because it’s there? We know it can be done, the military has some big drones, and theirs carry weapons. I can’t help but think what kind of a payload this plane could carry. And then, how it could be used in a bad way. Don’t you think that there has to be a limit? Can you imagine the damage a 214 pound plane could cause if….the battery disconnected? Or you got a bad case of “dumb thumb”. Can you image this thing plopping down in someone’s backyard? The scenarios are endless. I just sat looking at this plane imagining the first time they flew it. Talk about being nervous? Holy cow!! Be safe and see you at the field. The Hanger Ok, now it’s my turn. This is my garage. Nope, there’s no room for a car. It’s all about the airplanes. Banners on the Garage door, all (most) the planes hang from the ceiling and the chair is my thinking chair. It’s good to sit back and figure things out sometimes. I have one side that’s for building and the other for engine (dirty) work. Yep, that’s a six foot neon sign of a F4U Corsair. I bought that from a good friend that closed his hobby shop. It’s one of a kind. I have a small fridge, stereo and a 32”TV. It’s great space! The only other place I love more is….Nope, there’s no other place.
