January 2011
Dear Galloway,
THANKS Galloway for the honor and privilege of allowing me to be your pastor. Thank you for allowing me
to share your tears and joys, funerals and baptisms, crises and blessings. Thanks for your support of Galloway’s
ministry. Thanks for your attentiveness when I open God’s Word each Sunday. Thanks for covering Susan and
me daily in prayer.
THANKS for your gifts throughout 2010 to the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund that allows me to bless individuals
and families who have special needs and periodically help with non-budgeted ministry needs. A special Christmas
gift in 2009 has allowed us to expend more than was received in 2010. Our 2010 income was $5,584.00.
Easter Display (Ascribe Ministries) 500.00
Wedding/Furniture Gift to Culbertson’s 1,006.00
Worship Conference (7 attendees) 318.00
Help for Families (glasses, utilities, travel
funds for funeral, rent, fire – 10 families) 2,720.00
Outflow Projects (8 projects) 1,355.00
Aldersgate Conference (18 attendees)
398.00
Expenses $6,297.00
Another way we are able to help families in Venango County is through the “Community Services Fund.” I am
able to refer people to Community Services for car repairs, utility and rent needs. We support Community Services through our Outreach-Mission Budget and the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund (PDF). In 2010, Community
Services has disbursed on behalf of Galloway Church, $1,851.19 to nine families in need.
Please join me in LIFTING IN PRAYER the “Strategic Planning Team.” The SPT members (Shane McCoy,
Margo Schall, Andy Dailey, Jeannette Slater, Kim Simons, Phil Thompson, Shannon Hawke, and myself) are
evaluating the Church Health Assessment forms filled out by 49 of Galloway’s ministry leaders. They will then
recommend to Ministry Council all church goals for 2011! Pray for their discernment as they look at our community, congregation, and God’s call on Galloway Church. They will provide a preliminary report to Ministry
Council on January 12.
As we begin 2011, may we continue to unite around our mission and vision:
MISSION: Making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
VISION: Transforming people through Christ, one relationship at a time.
I want to be available to you and your family. If there is a concern or pastoral need, please do not hesitate to
contact me. If there is a way we can join together in ministry, I’d love to hear from you.
With you in serving Christ,
John W. Seth, Pastor

TWISTING the TRUTH...Sermon Series
There is more to this world then we can see. Beyond all we can see and measure is a spiritual world, a world that impacts us every day. We live in a world in which an evil influence exists, twists the truth, and ultimately wants to lead us
on a path of destruction.
On January 2 and 9, “The Source of Deception” and “All is Not as it Seems” will introduce you to the concept of an
invisible reality, that there is a spiritual world beyond the material – and a real, literal Devil. And, his goal is to take
what’s true and twist it. Take people’s view of God and twist it just enough that people become angry with God, make
decisions based on that anger, and blame Him for the consequences of their actions.
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this
dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:12
On January 16, “Says Who” addresses our tendency to rebel against authority. When confronted by authority, we evaluate what we’re being asked to do – and if we disagree with it, we ignore it. But, obedience is not about the “what,” but
about the “whom,” because there is no authority except that which God has established, whether we like it or not.
“Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities except that which God has established. The authorities that
exist have been established by God.” Romans 13:1
On January 23, Luke Braughler will add to the service a message entitled “Grieving – The Road to Redemption.”
Luke states, “I feel the need to talk about the lie that Satan has put up that a Christian has to be happy and have
a smile on their face at all times, and how that bottles up our suffering (which leads to destruction), brings false
witness to unbelievers of what being a disciple of Jesus is like, and keeps our relationships with one another only
ankle deep (causing disunity). I know that from my recent struggles and from being open about my grieving in the
Galloway’s Men’s Group redemption and healing have been brought as others have helped me “Face Forward.”
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great
is our faithfulness, I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” Lamentations 3:22-24
On January 30, “Facing Forward” examines suffering, and how we cannot understand the purpose of suffering if we only
examine our present circumstances rather than looking at the larger context that God has given us to understand it.
“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18
February 6, “It’s No Mistake” confronts our attitude toward our “mistakes” – the things we do that we know are
wrong, but we try to dumb down rather than admit that they’re sin. And if we only make mistakes, we don’t sin. And if
we don’t sin, we don’t need a Savior. We only have to do better.
“…for all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
February 13, “It’s Only Physical” is all about sex – what our culture says, and how it’s destroying our potential for intimacy as it focuses on sex as an activity rather than an intimate experience that is for a married couple only. And when
sex is taken out of its intended context, it’s incredibly destructive.
“Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his
body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18
Over the last several years, there’s been such a strong de-emphasis on
sin, authority, and a real Satan; to the point that on a practical level,
many of us deny that they exist. Rather than being sinners, we’re
“mistake-ers.” The Devil’s just a bogeyman—certainly there’s not a
real enemy of our souls whose desire is to kill and destroy? Aren’t we
all getting bent out of shape about sex; I mean, it’s only a natural activity… Right? You get the idea. Truth is being twisted. Want to be in a
Life Group to discuss each week’s message, just let me know…

LIFE GROUP
“Do you really believe that what you believe is really real?”
The Truth Project will help you have a Christian Worldview.
There will be no Story Time during the winter months.
Thank you to all the Moms that attended. I look forward to seeing you all again in the Spring!
In a recent study, the Barna Research Group revealed a
stunning statistic that continues to reverberate throughout
the evangelical world. Only 9% of professing Christians
have a biblical worldview.
Winter is a great time to snuggle up with a book. We
have lots of books that make enjoyable family readalouds. Hope you’ll stop by and check some out!
Because of this, today’s believers live very similarly to
non-believers. A personal sense of significance is rarely
experienced; we spend our money and time on things
that fail to satisfy, and we begin to wonder what life’s
ultimate purpose really is. We are, in short, losing our
bearings as people and a nation.
In Search of those with
Levite Leanings
Levites … they were from the tribe of Levi, they were
to assist the priest, and they were to care for all the
furnishings of the Tent of Meeting.
To counter this slide within the body of Christ, Focus
on the Family has developed the Truth Project, a DVDbased small group curriculum comprised of 12 one-hour
lessons taught by Dr. Del Tackett. This small group study
is the starting point for looking at life from a biblical
perspective. Each lesson discusses in great detail the
relevance and importance of living the Christian worldview in daily life.
So, we’re in search of those who will come out of their
tribes (homes) and gather on the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of
the month, starting January 11, 2011 at 8:30 a.m. They’ll
meet with Pastor Seth for coffee/donuts, devotions, and
prayer. Then, they’ll look to see how they might care for the
furnishes of the Meeting House (the Galloway Facility).
Yes, we have exceptional Trustees (all with full-time
jobs and long to-do lists), plus a part-time custodian
(Karin) and a part-time maintenance man (Steve), who
each help to keep Galloway going and clean, but they
all can use some help caring for our meeting place.
Susan and I invite you to be a part of our Life Group
as we explore the Truth Project on Thursday evenings
at our home. We’ll start off with a Q/A time on Thursday, January 6 to explore the Truth Project. Come and
check-out if this is a study for you. Regular sessions
start January 13 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM. Childcare is
available upon request.
We’re looking for those with “Levite Leanings”. Will
you join Pastor Seth on the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays and
look at how you can help to care for, maintain, and
improve the Galloway Meeting House?
The Truth Project has 12 lessons. You can check them
out by going to www.truthproject.org
Interested? Mark your calendar and join us.
Join us on Thursday evenings for the SETH “TRUTH
PROJECT” LIFE GROUP. The group is open to all but will
be limited to 16. Childcare is available upon request.

Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I
will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even
make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Isaiah 43:18-19
Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do,
forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things
which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God
in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:13-14
Let your eyes look straight ahead, and your eyelids look right before you. Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established. Do not turn to
the right or the left; remove your foot from evil.
Proverbs 4:25-27
God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death,
nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have
passed away.
Revelation 21:4
Prayer
Lord, I pray that you would set me free from painful things from this year.
Wherever I have made the past my home I pray that you would deliver me,
heal me, and redeem me from it. I choose to make my home with you.
Help me to let go of anything I have held onto of my past that has kept me
from moving into all you have for me. Enable me to put off all former ways
of thinking and feeling and remembering. Give me the mind of Christ so
I will be able to understand when I am being controlled by memories of
past events.
I don’t want to tie myself to the past by neglecting to forgive any person
or event associated with it. Help me to forgive what needs to be forgiven. Specifically, I pray that you would deliver me from th effects of any
painful or bad memory. I release my past to you and everyone associated
with it so you can restore what has been lost. Everything that was done
to me or I have done which causes me pain, I surrender to you. May it no
longer torment me or affect what I do today. Make me glad according
to the days in which I have been afflicted and the years I have seen evil.
Thank you that you make all thing new and you are making me new in
every way.
Help me to keep my eyes looking straight ahead and not back on the former days and old ways of doing things. I know you want to do something
new in my lilfe today. Help me to concentrate on where I am to go now
and not where I have been. Release me from the past so I can move out of
it and it to the future you have for me.

The Impact of Missions
Dear Pastor John Seth and Galloway Church,
Blessings from above. My name is Orpha Perez, and
I’m from Mexico City. Through this letter I would like to
share with you and your church some of the wonderful things that Youth with a Mission [YWAM] did in our
country for several months.
Mexico City is one of the most populated cities in the
world. People place their trust in idols and sorcery, which
leads them to live lives full of darkness and confusion.
Besides, our government does not provide enough
economic resources to help people in poverty. Therefore,
those in great need are forced to commit crimes and join
drug cartels. Neither religion nor the government can help
the people of Mexico. The only one who has the power to
change lives is Christ and that is why the Gospel of Christ
needs to be preached in every corner of our great city.
DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE
this is to certify that
THE AIR FORCE ACHIEVEMENT MEDAL
(first oak leaf cluster)
Has Been Awarded To
Staff Sergeant Zachary E. Wenner
Personally, when I heard that YWAM was sending missionaries to Mexico, I had my doubts. Would these young
men and women make an impact in the Mexican people?
Would they be able to share the Gospel if they didn’t speak
Spanish? Are they really prepared for such a job like this?
Then I joined Megacities in the streets. I understood that
God was using them not just to share the Good News, but
also to awake the church in Mexico. Sometimes, it is easy
to forget that our first purpose in life is to tell people about
Jesus; I was forgetting that aspect in my life, but when I saw
the teary eyes of a young man when we told him that Jesus
loves him, I woke up to the reality and power of our God.
He wants every single Mexican to know Him and He wants
me to share His love with them, what a privilege!
For
Outstanding Achievement
30 May 2009 to 02 June 2009
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Staff Sergeant Zachary E. Wenner distinguished
himself by outstanding achievement while assigned
to the 91st Network Warfare Squadron, 67th Network Warfare Group, 67th Network Warfare Wing, Air
Combat Command, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.
Sergeant Wenner flawlessly executed an intricate
series of time-critical telecommunications network
attacks supporting a kidnap-for-ransom hostage
rescue operation in Iraq. His exceptional employment
of the Network Attack System influenced kidnappers to cooperate with hostage Negotiators. While in
direct contact with Coalition ground forces through a
forward deployed liaison officer, Sergeant Wenner assisted four Special Forces combat operations, culminating in the successful rescue of a six-year old boy in
an environment where kidnap victims typically have
less than a 5 percent chance of survival. The operations also resulted in the apprehension of two captors and the recovery of the family’s ransom money.
Sergeant Wenner’s timely actions and meticulous
mission execution disrupted an active insurgent kidnapping cell and improved the developing relationship between the United States and Iraqi citizens.
All the young men and women in the Megacities’ teams
worked very hard. They went out to the streets every day
to read the Bible and share Jesus. It was beautiful to see
how people responded to the
message of truth. They preached
next to sorcerers and let the light
of Christ shine and overcome
the power of the devil. There
are not enough words to thank
all the teams and people from
YWAM for coming to Mexico City
and help us gain souls for Christ.
Many thanks to special people
like Matt and Steph Bell, for opening their hearts to us
and leaving the comfort of their home to come and reach
the lost. I would also like to thank Galloway Church and
you, Pastor John Seth, for supporting and encouraging
people in your church to do missions work. Thank you!
May God bless you and guide you forever.
GIVEN UNDER MY HAND
24 JUNE 2010
Sincerely, Oprha Perez

The fall in Retrospect
The fall was an amazing time for Galloway Youth Ministry. We entered in on a number of
new things for the ministry with three major changes and a plethora of smaller things.
Galloway
UN TED METHOD ST CHURCH
Youth
Ministry
Highlighting the major things, firstly, is the name of our ministry. After some discussion
and thought, we have decided that RUSH has run it’s season, and we are now going by simply Galloway Youth Ministry.
Secondly we have moved from using both the Youth Room and the Worship Center and have put some money and
time into creating space in the Youth Room for meeting. With a new paint job and the addition of a sound system, we
now have a space for the youth that encompasses most of our needs for our Wednesday and Sunday programs.
Lastly we have changed the meeting time of the Youth ministry from 6-8 to 6:30-8:30. I understand that this is a struggle for
some parents, particularly for those with students in both Youth and Children’s Ministries, but we have changed the time for
important reasons. The first of these is to provide us with the opportunity to connect with a wider range of students. Many of
our students are seasonal because of different sporting opportunities. By bumping our time back a bit, we have made it possible for some of the students who are involved in sports to still make it to our Wednesday night after their practices and games.
The other major reason is that, when we had an earlier meeting time, the volunteers and myself were stretched to make it and
prepare in time for students to truly be our main focus, instead of setup and preparation. We will be keeping the time change
for the time being and ask for patience and our ability to work together as a community to adjust to the new time.
Events and Activities
We began this school year with Kick-Start, which was a challenge to students to invite friends and expose them to
Christ. During this time, two students, Tyler Frankenberger and Nicole Hannah, came into a relationship with Christ.
One made a public declaration of a relationship with Christ that had begun in his bedroom at home, Jacob McCool;
and another made a whole hearted recommitment to Christ, Caleb McCarthy. This event encompassed a month’s
worth of competitions between students, as well as messages focused on understanding who Christ is and what it
truly means to have a relationship with Him.
Wednesday nights, aka CONNECT, since have been focused on understanding more of what it means to be a follower
of Christ and focusing more on His ministry. Throughout January we will be discussing relationships and how our relationships relate to our relationship with Christ.
Sunday Mornings during our GROW time, we began with Outflow along with the rest of the church, and then the Sr.
High shifted to discussions of different views of creationism and the importance of growing and understanding things
within Christianity on our own. The Jr. High, under Lynn Seyler, discussed the importance of our choices in our lives.
The Jr. High class is now meeting with me, and we are discussing where true happiness comes from; while the Sr. High
class is working with Dave Seyler.
A small group of girls attended a winter Seneca Hills White Out Retreat with Krisy and Shalyna Butler going along as
chaperones. The retreat was based off the book Jesus is for Liars and gave the girls the opportunity to have some fun
together during some of the first snow of the year, along with multiple other youth ministries.
THIS MONTH
January 4th – Youth Staff Meeting 6:30pm
January 5th – First CONNECT of the Year 6:30pm8:30pm (Normal Wednesday Night)
January 7th – Family Movie Night 7:00pm
January 10th – Youth Parent’s Meeting 6:30pm
January 16th – MANDATORY MEETING FOR DOMINICAN REPUBLIC MISSIONS TRIP FOR PARENTS
AND YOUTH 9:30am (During Sunday School Hour)
January 29th – Winter Fun REACH Event!! 1:00pm
Bring out as many friends as you can, because we
are going to have a great time of games and fun.
Missions
Things have begun to be put in place for our students’ opportunities to serve this summer on mission trips. The 7-9th graders will be returning to Pittsburgh project where they will be
able to serve the greater Pittsburgh area. Fourteen 10-12th
graders and a handful of adults will be headed this summer
to the Dominican Republic where we will be serving people
through different construction needs, to creating bible study
programs. The students are raising somewhere in the ballpark
of $1800 a piece and will need your help and support through
prayer and fundraising to accomplish their goals.
We have had an amazing fall and look forward to an Amazing winter together in ministry.

Director of Youth Ministries
Are you claiming all you should?
The Office of Financial Education, housed in the Pennsylvania Department of Banking, is asking your help in spreading
the word to your community about reminding eligible Pennsylvania employees to claim the Earned Income Tax Credit
(EITC) when they file their 2010 federal income return.
The IRS’s EITC is a refundable tax credit which provides not only an incentive, but a valuable source of extra dollars to
working families. Many low-wage employees qualify for this tax credit but are not aware of, or how to get it.
Background
According to the Internal Revenue Service, in 2009:
·
Over 900,000 Pennsylvania workers took advantage of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) to help their families;
·
The average credit claimed was $2,008;
·
It is estimated that only four out of five families eligible for the EITC claim it.
Using these numbers, it is estimated more than 200,000 Pennsylvania working families lost out on more than
$400 million in tax reductions or refunds in 2009.
Free Online Resources
Realizing the staggering amount of money left out of the hands of working Pennsylvania families, our Office has
created a new online resource for businesses and organizations that can educate their eligible employees on how to
claim the earned income and other tax credits; as well as, take advantage of tax refund savings options, such as buying savings bonds when filing their returns and avoiding refund anticipation loans.
Businesses and organizations can visit a new section of the Your Money’s Best Friend website:
www.moneysbestfriend.com/default.aspx?id=363
Here you will find resources such as free downloadable paycheck stuffers, posters, IRS forms, and calculators to help
employees get the most from their tax return. Lower-wage employees can also have their tax returns prepared for free at
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites or use the IRS's Free File program to prepare and file their own taxes.
How You Can Help Pennsylvania Working Families
The Office of Financial Education is asking you to forward this information onto your membership as early as
possible. Refund anticipation loan providers use the holiday season to entice filers into loans against future tax
refunds. Feel free to forward this email on to your members, business associations and chamber of commerce for
their distribution as well.
If you have any further questions about this issue or would like more information on the free financial education
resources and services provided to employers, please feel free to contact Becky MacDicken, our workplace financial
education specialist, at 717-783-2498 or bmackdicken@state.pa.us.
Thank you.
