RCHK Y10 - SEA TO SKY HK Locations: HIGHLIGHTS Accommodation: TENTS/DORMS • Hike and paddle across Sai Kung National Park. Length: • Remote camping in beautiful remote locations Pax: • Complete independence with students cooking and setting up camp on their own GOALS • Develop greater self-awareness, acceptance of group and personal responsibility • Team building and team participation • Appreciate nature, the environment and Hong Kong’s environmental concerns • Face both physical and social challenges with an open mind • Experiential learning in a safe and fun environment • Become independent in a remote environment • Understand the skills necessary for unsupported expeditions Asia Pacific Adventure (APA) 5 DAYS 4 NIGHTS 24 STUDENTS PROGRAM: SEA TO SKY Hiking • Day 1: Buy initial food for this part of the expedition and then Hike from Sai Kung Pagoda to Ham Tim Beach • Day 2: Sunrise ascent of Sharp Peak with breathtaking views followed by a hike to Chek Keng for an overnight stop • Day 3: Half day hike to Wong Shek Pier for equipment swap where students will drop of some hiking gear and gain Kayaking equipment Kayaking • Day 3: Recap skills learnt in previous program & plan the next three day expedition • Day 4: Paddle across the north of Sai Kung and down into Tolo Harbour spending the night at a dormitory location • Day 5: Half day kayak to final location in three fathoms cove just round the corner from school The expedition will be very weather dependent and so the route and expectations of distance will be planned out by the students each evening as part of their evening activities Additional Points • • • • • Students will operate in teams of three and each trio will be completely equipped independently of the other groups Students will be expected to carry all their personal gear as well as some group gear Students will plan and buy all their food for the first 2 1/2 days on the first morning (APA will provide a budget for this) At the end of each day students will be expected to set up camp and cook for themselves with staff on hand to monitor safety As a final part of each day students will be told the route of the following day so they can navigate themselves throughout the expedition [2] ACCOMMODATION The campsites and dorms have basic facilities and are both safe and secure. All locations are based in areas of outstanding natural beauty and really showcase the best Hong Kong has to offer MEALS We aim to provide healthy, balanced meals with fruit and filtered drinking water throughout the day. Breakfast - choice of three different cereals and tinned fruits. Lunch - sandwiches of ham, salad, cheese and tuna. Dinners - pasta, mash potatoes, stir-fries, etc. Occasional evening treats like breadsticks with chocolate over the campfire. Students will help prepare all meals. EQUIPMENT APA uses and maintains a high standard of equipment for all of its activities. APA provides their own PFDs (Personal Floatation Devices), ropes, helmets, harnesses and other technical equipment. SAFETY All lead APA staff are First Aid qualified and carry radios, mobile phones and first aid kits at all times. APA follows a safety management system developed from decades of in-house senior team experience and influenced by several leading national governing bodies including: British Canoe Union, New Zealand Outdoor Instructors Award, Association of Canadian Mountain Guides, UK's Mountain Leader Training Board and USA's Rescue 3 International amongst others. APA has developed professional skills training programs for everything from mountain biking to rock rescue and regularly delivers Risk Management and Wilderness First Aid courses for international school faculty. FACILITATION Our company specializes in facilitation with a high staff to student ratio of 1:12, and 1:6 when using high elements and water based activities. Each group of 10-12 students will have their own APA facilitator for the entire program. Team names, song/chants and team goals will be established and team reflection and reviews carried out after each activity. Certificates will be given at the end of program. [3] Asia Pacific Adventure (APA) OUR TEAM COST Program cost includes accommodation, meals (including snacks and filtered water), all transport during program, experienced facilitators, program delivery, all activity & safety equipment and public liability insurance during activities. Program cost does not include travel to and from the first and last day of program Program cost is based on minimum 24 students. Price adjusted for less than 24 students.
