These are the materials being used by the more environmentally sensitive manufacturers of kitchens and surfaces, without making sacrifices on the aesthetic front. Cosentino, for example, has launched Eco, a new surface made plant-based resinsand recycled inert materials, while in kitchens Martini and Team 7 are using “home-grown”, European woods. Valcucine, with its Demode brand, continues the commitment to creating 100% recyclable kitchens, and Arrital is using PaperStone®, a product made from recycled paper and petrol-free resins. Appliance design, meanwhile, has been focusing on the reduction of consumption through the introduction of “smart” programmes, capable of improving times and performance features. Cooktop developments include electronic flame control from Electrolux, ovens from Franke with controlled heat flow using DCT technology, the new class A+++ rated dishwasher from Smeg and the Ico hood from Elica, whose Synairgy motor cuts energy consumption by half. by Paola Leone INTERACTING WITH THE ENVIRONMENT PaperStone®, an eco-friendly, recyclable material defines the surfaces of the AK_04 kitchen, on everything from the cabinet and drawer fronts to the tops. Thanks to its compactness and class A fire resistance (up to 175°), it is also suitable for use as a worktop material. à www.arritalcucine.com ambientecucina project Paolo Arnaboldi Executive Chef dell’Hotel Villa Flori (CO) Photo: Marco Reggi Set design: Bettina Colombo www.noemacomunicazione.com SUPREME - INDUZIONE FULL POWER FULGOR MILANO Meneghetti S.p.a. This is one of the new solutions created with Artematica Vitrum, a system constructed with a genuine eco-friendly approach: the “dematerialised” cabinet front, manufactured with a minimum of material and energy, is made up of an aluminium frame and glass panel; the fully recyclable In Vitrum base unit system is made with an aluminium structure and recycled glass panels. Design Gabriele Centazzo. à www.valcucine.it ambientecucina project ECO KITCHEN 6 DEMATERIALISED DEMODE – ENGINEERED BY VALCUCINE_MECCANICA Meccanica is an eco-sustainable system above all because it is constructed with the minimum amount of material needed. Rather than the traditional carcase it has an iron structure, a changeable “skeleton” that can also exist without fronts and sides, or be used to create shelving systems. The top is made of Re-y-Stone® eco-sustainable laminate in natural resin derived from by-products of the sugar production industry. Design Gabriele Centazzo. à www.demode.it ambientecucina project ECO KITCHEN 7 SUSTAINABLE DESIGN COSENTINO_ECO A surface decorated with high-end design features and offering genuine sustainability, Eco by Cosentino ® consists 75% of recycled materials (porcelain, glass, mirror and vitrified cinder), with the remaining 25% made up of natural stone and partly plantbased, eco-friendly resin. A multipurpose product designed for kitchen worktops, floors, walls and customised applications, thanks to the large format in which it is supplied. The composition with brushed oak kitchen block and side boiserie panels fitted with small drawers and plate rack is particularly attractive. à www.martinimobili.it - www.lestanzediann.it ambientecucina project ECO KITCHEN 9 QUALITY TIMBER TEAM 7_VAO Seven types of local and typically European timber are available for the Vao kitchen, as for all Team 7 furniture which, thanks to a manufacturing system based on satisfying criteria of excellence and environmental protection, won the “European Environmental Protection Prize”. Vao, seen here in the walnut version, features special fronts with edges cut at an oblique angle, creating a fingergrip in place of a handle. Vao also received (among its other accolades) a Special Mention in the 2012 IF Product Design Award. Design Sebastian Desch. à www.team7.at ambientecucina project FRANKE advertorial feature 10 THE FORMS OF PURE WATER AN EFFICIENT FILTER SYSTEM, TWO DESIGNER MIXER TAPS AND A NEW WATER SPOUT CARTRIDGE: THE NEW ECO-SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS FROM FRANKE PURIFY, REDUCE CONSUMPTION AND OFFER GREAT AESTHETIC APPEAL The Aton sink with Manhattan mixer, featuring the 28-mm cartridge, which reduces the flow of water. ambientecucina project FRANKE 11 Clear Water, which complies with Italy’s DM174 water purity standard, is a kit comprising a cartridge, a tested filter and a timer, for installation in the under-sink area. The version pictured is combined with the Eos Clear mixer tap. à www.franke.com Environmental protection, health safeguards and design come beautifully together in the new solutions created by Franke to purify water and save on its consumption. The new 28-mm cartridge considerably reduces the amount of water ambientecucina project consumed. When added during installation it can also be used to set the temperature of hot water. Designed for the two new Eos Clear and Atlas Clear mixer taps, the Clear Water kit is a revolutionary home water purification system based on a micro-filtering process that noticeably reduces the presence of chlorine, microparticles of heavy metals and most bacteria. Both taps have two outlets through which hot and cold water flow and another outlet for filtered water. ECO KITCHEN 12 ERGONOMICS AND ENERGY SAVING ELECTROLUX_ PQF750UOX Steel hob with five Flush Vertical Flame burners for optimum cooking: the PQF750UOX hob combines contemporary design with high-level performance features. The cast-iron pan supports and the CrossCook arrangement give the burners great aesthetic appeal as well as ensuring functional efficiency. The Flush Vertical Flame system regulates the heat output but more importantly directs the flame straight to the bottom of the pan, thereby avoiding heat dispersion. This cuts the amount of gas required by 20% and reduces cooking times. à www.electrolux.com ambientecucina project ECO KITCHEN 13 A STATEMENT HOOD ELICA_ICO Simple design, excellent extraction efficiency, energy saving and whisper-quiet operation: Ico is a top-performing hood and an elegant wall feature full of character. Ideal for kitchens that open onto the living area, it captures all fumes thanks to perimeter extraction, while the Synairgy power system gives a 50% saving on electrical energy as well as being virtually noise-free. The Chef Control feature offers a choice of extraction settings to suit actual need and depending on the condition of the air in the room. Design Fabrizio Crisà. à www.elica.com ambientecucina project ECO KITCHEN 14 FULLY INTEGRATED NOVY_FUSION A fully integrated hood that only appears when it is in use: Fusion is a smart extraction system that uses Ecosmart technology for greater energy savings. When in use, the front section opens to capture fumes; when no longer required the appliance disappears from view and sits flush with the wall unit. The Ecosmart system re-circulates the warm air into the room and has a number of special programmes that automatically control consumption. à www.novy.com ambientecucina project ECO KITCHEN 15 CUSTOMISED WASHING SMEG_ST332L Energy saving (Class A+++), orbital washing, a third upper spray arm and 5 + 5 programmes: these are the exceptional performance features of the ST332L dishwasher. The choice of programmes offered ensures that the most appropriate washing process for the items loaded (and how soiled they are) is selected. The delayed start-up function is useful in the event of the user’s absence or to avoid overloading the power supply when other appliances are also in use. à www.smeg.com ambientecucina project TECHNICAL FACTSHEETS 16 VALCUCINE Artematica Vitrum is the glass-fronted version of Artematica, a system centring around the “dematerialised front”, produced in a way that reduces to a minimum materials and energy consumption.
