Delivered. 4 Background to CTC • Established in 1964 to present Engineering Learnership, Mining and Coal Prep training exclusively to the coal mines as a Chamber of Mines venture; • Currently owned by a number of majors in the coalmining business. Anglo American Thermal Coal; Glencore; Exxaro; Shanduka and Kangra; South32 treated as a shareholder. • Owners pay a fixed subscription; private clients pay an agreed rate; • No profits taken from the business – reinvested in training; • Capacity to train 760 learners per day in the engineering workshops, 120 mining learners at Greenside and Landau, 40 coal processing operators at CTC. CTC Leading Expertise. Delivered. 5 Background to CTC • In addition to training, the coal mining industry has entrusted us with important health and safety functions: • Collieries Environmental Control Services (CECS) at Evander. • Rescue Drill Unit (Google “CTC mine rescue” to see video clip of historic event.) The T4 and T5 Drillmasters. Housed at CTC up to 2014. • By the late 1990’s this equipment was no longer supported by the OEM. • During 2010 the decision was taken to replace the equipment. • Steering committee established to oversee this process. (improving) • Inner tube failures at Sigma hole. (Driconeq re-welded all tubes.) • Penetration rate poorer than with old drill T5. (improving) • Two piston failures on the RC210 NUMA hammer (lubrication and ingress of debris were the issues with first piston) • Bearing failure on the air inlet swivel (lubrication and rust as a result of inactivity). • Ageing fleet of truck-tractors can’t cope with long hauls over mountains. (RDU Steercom agreed to replacement.) • It proved impossible to lower the capsule down an inclined hole. Due to step in hole diameter at bottom of casing. CTC Leading Expertise. Delivered.
