TEACHER NEEDS: Mrs. Mc Donald’s 2nd grade Science classes are in need of 15 clear empty CD cases for Science. GRANDPARENT’S DAY IN PRE-K The preschool students and grandparents completed an art project during their special day. They painted each other’s hands and then made a handprint picture to take home. They also took pictures of the happy pair and then added that to the artwork! What great fun!! The WCV After Prom Committee is having a Wreath & Greenery Fundraiser beginning Wed Oct. 10th through Oct. 29th Contact any Junior for details. Delivery is Nov 17th 4-6 PM. ****In addition: Beginning November through March, the 1st Wednesday of each month will be a Coach’s Corner Fundraiser Night from 4-8 PM and the 3rd Wednesday of each month will be Burger King Fundraiser Night from 4-8PM. Plan to save yourself from cooking dinner those nights! Mrs. Jamison’s 5th Grade Reading Class: recently enjoyed a unit on Tall Tales. Also participating in the happy occasion were bridesmaids Calamity Jane (Paige D.), Annie Oakley (Sierra E.), and Mollie Pitcher (Kaila F.). Acting as ringbearer and flower girl were brother/sister pair Teeny and Little Jean Bunyan, played by Clarissa K. and Weston P.. Giving the brides away were John Henry and Old Stormalong, played by John H. and Noah C. Johnny Appleseed (Sydney N.) provided the music for the celebration with an original song entitled “I Love Apples”. Old Mike Fink (Noah M.) almost missed the nuptials due to an alligator wrasslin’ injury. Pets who attended were Babe the Blue Ox (Cain B.) and Davy Crockett’s pet bear, Death Hug (Fayth H.). The event was hosted by Paul Bunyan and his wife, Ma Bunyan (Ron H. and Hope L. and production assistance was provided by Taylor V. Mrs. McDonald’s Second Grade Class: FUN IN THE LEAVES! Mrs. McDonald’s class did a week long unit on leaves. A trip to the Stuart Park resulted in many interesting leaf sizes, shapes, and patterns, Each student chose one leaf to complete many activities of which included how many pennies it took to cover their leaf, how many seconds it took to drop the leaf from their nose to the ground, and how many pennies the leaf would hold before it sunk in a tub of water. Stuart Elementary Student Council 2012-13 Student Council members for this school year are row 1: Josie, Kadance, Paige, row 2: Drew, Evan, Kade, Riley and Malachi Student council members are voted on by their classmates to represent their class in grades 4 and 5. The student council meets one time per month and carry out service learning projects. They plan the fall costume parade, sort “Trash for Cash”, pack the backpack groceries for the month and help load websites in the computer lab for the younger students! This is a great honor for these students as well as a wonderful learning opportunity! If you’re wondering why Mrs. Abbott’s IDM group is wearing a moustache, then you should read the book Aldo Applesauce and find out for yourself! Stuart Veteran’s Day program This year’s Veteran’s Day program will be Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 9 am in the Stuart Elementary gym. We would like to extend an invitation to all Veterans to join us for this special program as well as parents and grandparents. We work very hard to prepare a very meaningful program to honor our Veteran’s and our country! We are planning to do a picture slide show for Veteran’s who cannot attend the program or who have passed away. Please send pictures to be submitted to Mrs. Taylor. Also include the Veteran’s relation to students or staff and branch of the military. Picture deadline is Fri, Nov. 2. so we can have time to put the slide show together. BE DRUG FREE: RED RIBBON WEEK West Central Valley Elementary students will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week October 22-26. Red Ribbon Week was started in 1985 after Drug Enforcement Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena lost his life trying to stop illegal drugs from coming into the United States from Mexico. It is the week that we all pledge to “Be Drug Free.” Students will be participating in various activities during the week, and we will have theme days for each day that week. Watch for a note to come home with the students on Friday, October 19th with the list of theme days. HAPPY HALLOWEEN Kindergarten through 5th grade. On Wednesday October 31st, BRING your favorite costume to wear in the afternoon for our costume parade which will be from 2:30- 3:15pm in the gym. Parents are welcome to bring their cameras for this fun event. The 2nd graders will also be going to the care center at 10:30am to read to the residents in their Halloween attire. SAFE ROOM : Construction has started on our new SAFE ROOM for our building, and will most likely continue until Spring. The SOUTH Parking Lot is off limits until further notice. Our entire Staff is now having to utilize all the parking spaces on the North end of the building. Therefore, parents/visitors are asked to park over by the tennis courts or you can utilize the space directly in front of the north doors for quick drop off or pick up.
