Lifting of Fire Restrictions – replaced with an
OPEN FIRE SEASON
Notice is hereby given that the previously advertised Fire
Restrictions, which extended over the whole of the Hurunui
District Council Rural Fire Authority area, is lifted from 8 am
Saturday, 13th April, 2013, to be replaced by an OPEN FIRE
SEASON
Fires may now be lit in the open in rural areas without a permit.
Restrictions may be re-imposed at a later date if weather
conditions create a potentially dangerous fire situation. Please
take time to notify your local Chief Fire Officer of your intent to
burn to avoid false alarms.
Outdoor fires may not be lit in residential areas except with
consent from Environment Canterbury.
All residents are requested to take care when lighting fires in the
open, and are reminded that legal liability for costs associated
with fighting fire escapes lie with the person lighting the fire.
* A Vigil Mass will be held at Culverden on Saturday
27th April at 7:00pm. Everyone welcome.
A session on Catholic teaching with Father John
O’Connor will be held on Saturday, 20th April from
10:00am to 3:00pm. It will be at the Parish house
meeting room behind the Hawarden Catholic Church.
Bring your own lunch, ( coffee/tea provided) .
Before lighting a fire in the open, due care must be given to
weather conditions, adequacy of fire breaks, and the patrolling of
fires until completely out. No fires are to be lit after dark.
Those lighting fires have a duty of care to their neighbours and a
duty to prevent the spread of fire.
Property owners within the Hill and High Country area of the
Hurunui District Council Rural Fire Authority, the Ashley Rural Fire
District and Department of Conservation Estate fire safety margin
are reminded that a Restricted Fire Season is commonly in place all
year round within these areas, and that the relevant fire authority
should be contacted for a permit prior to any burning.
