Background remembering In March 1933 one of the first Nazi concentration camps was established in Dachau, near Munich. The Dachau concentration camp became a model for other concentration camps and also a place to train the Nazi-elites of the SS. Over 200,000 people from different countries were imprisoned in Dachau between 1933 and 1945. Numerous prisoners died from terror and the consequences of inhuman practises, disease, exhaustion and hunger. Due to the efforts of survivors, the memorial site was created in 1965.
