I want to extend my sincere thanks to Martine Grant and Jodie Morgan for their willingness to serve the organization as our new International Regional Representatives. Please join us in RJ Picciano welcoming our new advisors, as they will be instrumental in President scheduling exams in Australia and keeping in touch with the membership there. Your can read more about them in our next issue of Update. 1901 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Suite 607 Washington, DC, 20006 Phone: 202-462-1252 Fax: 202-463-1257 Web: www.bonent.org BOARD OF DIRECTORS President RJ Picciano, BA, CHT, OCDT Stow, OH President@bonent.org Vice President & Update Editor Carol Johnson, RNC, MSN, CS, FNP Jamaica, NY Carrajon@aol.com Since the last issue of Update, we have been in touch with the senator and the congressman who introduced the Kidney Care Quality and Education Act of 2007 to add a clause for dialysis technicians to maintain their certification. The bill has not yet been reintroduced in the House or the Senate. We are closely monitoring the bill and will notify you of any changes. We have joined the Kidney Care Partners organization which is a group of dialysis professionals and suppliers whose vision is to improve the care of dialysis patients. This organization does have a lobbyist who will be looking out for the organization’s interest. I recommend that each member call their senator or congressman and ask them to support the Kidney Care Quality Education Act 2007 (S. 691 and H.R.1193). Just like our politicians we have been at the forefront ensuring that dialysis professionals are educated and trained to perform their jobs. We have worked with colleges here in the United States and Canada reviewing their curriculums, making sure that they are current and adhering to industry standards. Currently there are over fifteen programs that are BONENT approved and they are listed on our web site. Please visit our web site for further details. Secretary/Treasurer Paulette C. And I’m truly proud to be a member of this organization! Angelyn G. Aquino, RN, CHN NSW, Australia (BONENT Story) Today, I received a package from Laura Stiewe (formerly Laura Clayton). It was a “Thank You” gift for helping her in April! Laura is a former BONENT member who is now in the field of massage therapy but before she could receive her message therapy license in Washington state, she needed a letter confirming that she was BONENT certified through 1999.
