WELCOME TO NEW CUSTOMERS ONBOARD IN WA
DGL wishes to welcome 2 new clients to our WA site.
IMCD Australia and Combined Rural Traders (CRT) have decided to move their operations
into the Welshpool Site for their warehousing and distribution.
IMCD who are well known to the Dangerous Goods Industry, have completed their move and
are now operating all their non hazardous materials through DGL WA from their previous
supplier. All hazardous material will move across once licence requirements for certain
classes of dangerous goods are fulfilled by DGL.
CRT is a new customer to Dangerous Goods Logistics and approached DGL late last year
with the intention of closing their WA warehouse and requesting DGL put in a tender for the
operations.
CRT are the third biggest supplier of equipment and product to the farming industry and
have warehouses and distribution points in all major capital cities and larger country
regions.
This exciting opportunity gives DGL a foothold into the Ruralco network, with possibly
further opportunities to expand into this group when DGL demonstrates its expertise in the
warehousing sector to Ruralco .
With the addition of these 2 customers and the rapid expansion of the Genfarm business,
the WA operation is going ahead full stream with more customers knocking on the door.
DGL in WA is the supplier of choice to a large number of companies with many thanks to
the efforts of our sister warehouses in the East.

Victoria’s Christmas Party
Our Christmas Party was held on Saturday 8th December at
Gumbuya Park, South East of Melbourne. DGL Victoria decided to
celebrate Christmas with our families and enjoyed a Family Day at
the park.
The weather was perfect, the turn out was great and, lunch which
was catered for was also great, if only there had been “no flies”!!!
The children enjoyed visiting the animal sanctuary and they also
enjoyed the numerous rides where even the ‘big kids’ had a go.

Santa’s Reindeer—John Smith
We had a visit from Santa, arriving by motorcycle, who was greeted
by excited children. Santa handed gifts to every child and the
parents took this opportunity to have their child’s photo taken with
Santa. Some were happy snaps others not so happy!!!!!!

BlueScope Tamworth
NSW commenced operations in Tamworth for Blue Scope Steel on the
7th January 2008.
Firstly a big thanks to Anthony Podetti, Herman Kaczorowski and Trevor
Thomas for working on the Sunday to get the equipment up there. I would
also like to welcome our new drivers Hal Adams, Jeremy Todd and
Jonathon Clare to DGL. Hal will be driving a prime mover doing the outer
New Interstate Trailer
town deliveries. Jeremy will be driving the other Prime Mover and Jonathon
the 12 Tonne Rigid around town.
Remember:
Stop
Revive
Survive
If you are ever looking for accommodation in Tamworth then give Hal a call. He can recommend
a lovely place called Joe McGuire’s. It’s a little Pub just out of town and it will only cost you
$25.00 a night. Don’t ask what you get for 25 bucks but you can just imagine.
BlueScope Management are very happy with the drivers we have on board and also the smooth
transition to DGL.

The new interstate trailer will be utilised for our weekly service
between Sydney and Melbourne and also include local deliveries. It will give
DGL NSW excellent exposure in the Sydney metropolitan area.
NSW Christmas Party
This year we spent the day on Sydney Harbour
drinking cold beers and eating lots of food.
Everyone behaved themselves and we all had a
great day. Thank you to the guys from
Newcastle who drove down to join us for the day.

not know Syliva, she has been working for DGL since 14-12- 2001 and is our very first
employee.
Syliva is managing the administration of the Warehouse and keeps the boys in check.
John put Syliva on the spot and asked her to say a few words. We are still not sure how many
drinks she had but this is in her own words, “I am so proud to be a DGL employee”. (Have

What's Happening in WA
Our Crew – DGL Perth
Well 2007 was one exciting year in what is commonly known as God’s country, we call it
Perth!! We have all managed to live to tell the tale of the change over of systems. A
complete remold of the administration of the business as we moved from our trusty stock
cards and meticulously hand recorded movements, to our new best friend, LMS. The
warehouse staff are truly appreciative as they no longer need to rely on pure memory for
each product on each order. Now we can point them to the exact location.
With the financials complete in July 2007, we took on our new face of DGL Perth. A great
thing for the office staff as they juggled the “Good morning Chemwest/DGL” to “Good
morning DGL/Chemwest” to finally just “Good morning DGL”. Our DGL signs are up
and the amount of “Is this Chemwest?” calls that we face have almost disappeared. For
so many years the DGL/Chemwest alliance has been there, but now the transformation
into one is complete.
So let me give you all a quick intro to our staff.
Of course we all should know Scotty who has been with the Group for about 5 years
now.
Jess, Laura and Amber are our wonderful office staff. A close knit group that have
pulled together so many times in the past to tackle, and conquer many a work or
personal drama.
Our drivers are Peter, Michael and a new member of the crew Jenni. Pete, our Italian
Stallion, is loyal and demure. Michael, aka Tiny is our gentle giant. You can always call
on Tiny when in a pickle and he will work as much overtime as you could ever need!!!
Jenni, had just joined us in the last couple of months and is happy settling in. After
years as a nurse it was time for her get behind the wheel again. Welcome aboard.
Finally, and without a doubt significant to the entire functioning of our business, there is
our warehouse staff. Chris runs the show. Generally calm and collected he enjoys very
loudly and sporadically bursting into song during the course of the day. Steve, Russell,
Paul, Tim, James, John and Sean (our greenest staff member) are the hub of our
operation. They are unstoppable as they power through the orders each day and keep
things interesting with their diverse and at times comical characters. Really, an
all-round awesome crew and for me, a great reason to come to work every day!!
So as we settle into a new year with big things
planned and projects in the pipeline we are all
excited to see where the next 12 months may lead
us. I am sure there will be some great stories to tell
and look forward to sharing them with the rest of
the country.

POD Scanning
Recently in Queensland we have been trialling a new POD scanning system that we
are expecting to be fully operational nationally by the end of February 2008.
Once fully implemented, it will eliminate the need for manual checking of each
individual POD via our manifesting screen, you will be able to scan multiple dockets,
so long as the docket has a barcode attached. This will also enable us to scan
connotes or supporting paperwork that relates to the POD at the same time.
The scanned POD will be kept on file to enable customers to access them for a period
of time via the internet. All the customer requires to obtain this information is a
username and password. A training session on how to utilise the internet for access
and retrieval to their POD’s will be provided, this will remove the need for customers to
ring and request a POD.
We have the ability to program this system so that customers will automatically
receive their POD’s back the following morning via a report that runs every night.
Therefore, if there has been an error made on an order it should be identified a lot
sooner and rectified before either reaching the customer or being used by the
customer.
The POD’s will remain available on the internet for an agreed period of time. If a
customer requires a copy of a particular POD after the agreed period of days, a charge
will apply for the retrieval of the required POD from our archives.
Trevor Chant, QLD State Manager, will be visiting all the sites over the next couple of
weeks to install and train staff on the use of this exciting new system.

Specialised Transport – Brisbane
DGL have started up a new division known as Specialised Transport. With specialised
equipment like our second “Track Axle Extendable” trailer and a new Dropdeck
Extendable trailer, we hope to firmly cement ourselves into the market as another
alternative to general, oversize and unusual cargo.
With our first truck being picked up mid February and the second truck arriving early
March, we hope to kick start with plenty of local and inter- and intrastate work. If you
have anything or know of a customer who requires transport, call Mark on 0439 759
258 to arrange a quote and transport.

Registered Training Organisation (OTR) - DGL Traineeship
Scheme For Employee’s
DGL will be introducing the Australian Apprenticeship Program within the organisation and
would like to provide interested employees with some background information on how they will
benefit from participating in the program. Following are some questions and answers that are
mostly commonly asked.
Firstly, to dispel a few ‘myths’, the term Australian Apprentice covers anybody that may be doing
a traineeship or an apprenticeship. Within DGL, everyone that chooses to participate will be
doing traineeships. This means doing recognised training in a non-trade related field/area.
All traineeships have no age limit, so anybody can do one and traditionally, it is mostly ‘mature
aged’ people who do traineeships these days.
How Do I Benefit From the Traineeship?
The certificate 3 level (equivalent of what an Apprentice obtains at the end of the apprenticeship)
that you will be issued with at the completion of the traineeship is nationally recognised. E.g., a
driver would gain a certificate in Transport & Logistics (Road Transport) Cert 3. A storeman
would gain a certificate in Transport and Logistics (Warehousing and Storage) Cert 3. benefiting
both you & your employer with sound OH&S practices & increased skill levels.
How is the Training Carried Out?
Most traineeship training is conducted ‘on-the-job’ in what is referred to as ‘Competency Based
Assessment’. This is where an ‘Assessor’ will visit you at a scheduled time, previously arranged
with your Site Manager, and spend time with you throughout your working day. The assessor
will be from the Registered Training Organisation (RTO), called OTR Training. They do not
hinder your duties in anyway, and can actually be helpful. It is a much simpler way of
conducting recognition training.
What is the cost?
There is no cost involved for trainees as the program is funded by the government.
Who is eligible for the traineeship?
All employees are eligible. With regards to the current legislation and OTR procedures, no person
is/or will be ineligible on the basis of:
gender, pregnancy, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or ethno-religious background, marital
status, disability of any nature, sexual preference, age (except in regards to compulsory
retirement).
Can I transfer the Traineeship?
Yes. If for some reason you move on from DGL and you have not completed the traineeship and
your new employer is happy for you to complete it with them, it can be transferred over. It is
preferable that you complete the traineeship with DGL, as they are investing in their employees
by providing this opportunity for recognised training.
Do I have to do the Traineeship?
No. The program is voluntary and you do not have to participate.
Note; a more detailed overview will be distributed to each site along with the appropriate
information packs.

DGL a Proud Sponsor of the Zig Zag Foundation
The Zig Zag Foundation was established May 2007 in Brisbane by Michelle Lawson
(Financial Controller at DGL) to help seriously ill, under-privileged and at risk
children between the ages 0 – 18.
Registered children’s charities apply for funding for specific needs and/or purposes for children
such as homeless kids accommodation, wheelchairs, counseling for sexually abused children,
research and so much more. Zig Zag has two funding rounds per year – March & September.
Most of the running costs are donated through our valued supporters and sponsors and every one
of our members generously volunteers their time. This means that almost every cent raised is
passed onto those who need it most – THE CHILDREN!
Zig Zag holds a series of functions such as the annual ball, golf day, race day and women’s event.
Donations (in kind & monetary) are also accepted and some individuals and businesses hold
events (fashion parade, trivia nights) to help raise money and awareness. The goal is to raise
over one million dollars each year.
