Rescue Mission Work
I recently had the chance to meet with the offices of South Dakota’s congressional delegation both here in Rapid City
and in Washington, D.C. I was impressed with how in tune everyone seemed to be with issues that are of importance
to Rescue Mission work such as Religious Conscience Rights, Tax Reform, and Housing issues.
Then I thought how blessed we are to be serving the homeless in an area that is so accepting of Christian organizations.
Around our country groups like ours face challenges from those who feel the work we do should exist apart from
Biblical teaching. Those challenges come in many shapes and forms and are both costly and time consuming. We are
blessed that these types of challenges have not graced our doorstep to date.
At Cornerstone Rescue Mission we are unashamedly Christian. We welcome anyone and everyone into the mission
regardless of race, religion, or sexual identity. We do this because we truly believe in the power of Jesus Christ to save
sinners and we recognize that sin can be common to all. Our prayer is that while we are helping people seek treatment
for physical and mental ailments, addictions, and chronic homelessness they will also hear and respond to the Gospel.
We accomplish a great deal yearly. Last year we helped 120 people transition from homelessness into stable housing.
Up 40% from the year before. The Supportive Services for Veteran Families program served 260 households across
the state. We are proud to see these kinds of results, but our efforts hold no hope at all if those in our care do not hear
the good news of Jesus Christ.
I’d like to thank you for your partnership in the sharing Jesus with Cornerstone Rescue Mission guests. Your donations
of time, money, household goods and clothing help us to accomplish our mission on both a temporal and eternal level.
Even the smallest of these gestures goes far for the work of God’s Kingdom. Thank you for your continued support.

The Blessing of Donors and Volunteers
Corie Arnold came into Cornerstone shortly before Christmas. This
young lady has the energy of three people and a heart of gold. We
first met Corie when she called to get volunteer information for the
Mission. We happened to mention that the Women & Children’s
Home needed towels and we were off to the races. Corie brought
in bags and bags of towels. We would then mention another “need”
and she would appear with more bags. And this is how it went for
a couple of months.
Corie even took it upon herself to make up flyers to help gather the
things we needed. She has an amazing group of friends and family
behind her, including her grandmother and her grandmother’s
High School Class of 1964. Corie said she has been amazed by the
generosity and excitement demonstrated by people who wanted to
help her cause. We laughed when she told us she would strike up
conversations with complete strangers in the grocery store checkout line and they would end up helping her with more donations.
She estimates she has had 50 to 60 people helping her gather
donations. Corie is already making a plan for an event this spring.
All we know is that we thank God all the volunteers and for this little tornado
that blew into Cornerstone and we want to give her and everyone a big “Thank You” for all that you, and Corie
and her friends, family and group of supporters have done. We are so grateful to all the volunteers and people
who donate their time helping the needy of our area, the guests of Cornerstone Rescue Mission.

AND
We are critically short of coffee at the mission. Many of our guests
substitute coffee for previous addictions, and coffee is a much
better choice. It is estimated that between
34.7% - 48.5% of all sheltered adults who are homeless had chronic
substance use issues and/or alcohol addictions.

Those are national statistics and we believe our numbers could be
higher. 90% of all Alcoholics Anonymous members drink coffee, so
please consider bringing some coffee to the mission or contacting
Deb to see how you can help.
