Madelia Area Chamber NEWSLETTER July 2016 Newsletter Summer time is here and so is Madelia’s 41st Annual Park Days with our Blues Festival and Rivers Edge Art & More Fair. Mark your calendars for July 8th -10th. This weekend will be a destination for members of our community as well as visitors from outside of our immediate area. Park Days is our opportunity to showcase Madelia and we plan to do just that. Friday - Grand Parade at 7pm with many of our favorite groups and some new ones too, like the Governaires Drum & Bugle Corps, Mankato Area 77 Lancers Marching Band, Schell’s Hobo Band, Maple River Marching Eagle Band, Madelia High School Band, Jim Lawrence Orchestra, Minnesota “Over-60” Band, Mankato T-Birds Shriners Patrol, SuFuDu and the River City Rhythm. “Battle of the Drums” will follow the parade in Watona Park with amazing fireworks by J& M Display. Saturday - Rivers Edge Art & More Fair (9am to 5pm) featuring 70+ Crafters/Vendors, located in and around the Tan Shelter. The Blues Festival starting at 11am with “The Everett Smithson Band,” Jimmy and the Band of Souls,” “Billy and the Bangers,” The Butains,” Boom Boom Steve V & the Knockouts” and “Lisa Wenger & Her Mean Mean Men.” FREE Harmonica lessons given by Everett Smithson and there will be many new activities for all ages, like “Jump Rope for Heart,” Juggler Act, Spin Art, Come & Go Painting, Cow Pie Bingo, Balloon Artist, Face Painting and Kids Giant Inflatables. The day would not be complete without our sporting tournaments: Baseball, 5K Run/Walk, Bean Bag Tournament, Carp Classic and many other activities throughout the day. On Sunday there will be the firemen’s pancake breakfast, men’s golf tournament, a community worship service with live gospel music by The Mages Family, 3 on 3 Basketball and the kid’s pedal pull. For a full Schedule of Events (see page 7). Join us for family fun with great food, 1919 Root Beer, Schell’s Beer and Morgan Creek Wine. We are asking everyone attending Park Days NOT to bring any outside personal coolers in the fenced in entertainment food/beer wagon area. The areas east of the stage, the area surrounding the food vendors and beer wagon will be the entertainment area. A full schedule of events can be found on our website, face book page and posted in many of our businesses. The Madelia Area Chamber of Commerce and the Watonwan County Historical Society have worked together on a small arts grant application. Our grant application has been approved by the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. This grant will provide some of the funding for the blues music on Saturday. Our fireworks program has been funded by the City of Madelia and Madelia Municipal Light & Power. Thank you!! This year, as in the past, Park Days will be funded by community support. This support includes many volunteer hours as well as financial support. Your generous support is what makes Park Days happen and we are grateful. Your donations should be paid to Madelia Promotions, Inc., a tax exempt organization established to promote Madelia and support the Madelia Area Chamber of Commerce. A portion of your sponsorship will be tax deductible regardless if you are a Chamber member or not. A portion of contributions made by individuals will be tax deductible as charitable contributions.
