about carefree senior living
Ken Templeton, President of Templeton Development Corporation, has
developed commercial and residential properties since 1981. An active
community leader, Ken Templeton is a distinguished member of the American
Seniors Housing Association (ASHA) and has had the distinction of being
Chairman of the Board for three different Las Vegas banks since 1993.
Other organizations that Ken has been invloved with include the Boys &
Girls Club, Nevada Heart Association, the National Association of Realtors,
Boy Scouts, Project Sunshine, the Homebuilders Association and the State of
Nevada Problem Gaming Board.
In the late 1980’s, Ken became concerned over a growing senior housing
shortage in the Las Vegas valley. Research conducted by Clark County
demographers suggested the lack of senior housing in Clark County was
becoming a major economic issue. Considering the fact that Las Vegas has
long been one of the nations’ top retirement choices, Ken committed himself
to fill the need for affordable senior housing. In 1993, Carefree Senior
Living apartment communities emerged.
Carefree apartment communities offer senior residents the distinction of
a quality lifestyle, companionship, superior amenities, and activities for
residents with diverse interests and physical levels. Ken takes a personal
interest in knowing the people who live at his apartment communities. He
does this by being available to residents at special functions and social
events sponsored for them in the Clubhouse.
TDC is the largest developer of market rate senior apartment communities
in the western United States and carries a 22 year history that includes
more than 3000 units and over 15,000 active senior adults.
In 2004, Ken expanded Carefree Senior Living west to California. Located
in the North Natomas region of Sacramento, Carefree has introduced a new
way of life to area seniors.
In 2006, Ken sold nine Las Vegas Carefree communities to help some of his
partners transition into retirement. The sale of the nine Carefree communities
became the largest multi-family housing transaction in Las Vegas’ history.
Ken sold the communities but kept the Carefree Senior Living brand name.
As this was an unprecedented achievement by any developer, Ken was
further inspired to keep building and expanding the Carefree name.
2007 brought the opening of Carefree at The Willows, in Summerlin, Las
Vegas. This community features 300 apartment homes in two and three
story buildings with extraordinary views of the Red Rock mountain range
west of Las Vegas.
TDC currently has several projects in the planning and development stages in
California, Colorado and Nevada.
