FROM DR. HOVEN’S DESK...
As I write this it is snowing right outside my window, yet our
spring sports start practice in just a few days. Hopefully we’ll
see some sunshine and warmer weather very soon. Either
way, it’s a far cry from last year at this point when we had
already had about two weeks of school cancelled due to
snow.
Each year we look at this point of the semester as a great
time to remind parents and students of the importance of a
strong finish to the school year. While we only have roughly
one quarter remaining, that quarter is very important. Whether it be EOC testing, AP
tests, the ACT, or class papers and projects, all students have many significant pieces
remaining. Rather than coasting to the finish line, it is time to buckle down for that
final big push.
On another note, please plan to attend Parent/Teacher
Conferences on March 26 from 3:30-7. We appreciate all
the support from our parents and we would love to see you
there.
Thank you for all you do. Go Wolves!
Timberland took 2 teams to the St. Louis Area Project Lead the Way Competition at Florissant Valley Community
College on January 30. Each team took a box of building materials that they used in the competition. They were not
told what they would be doing until they arrived on site. They were given 2.5 hours to design, build, test, evaluate and
redesign before they had to compete. The competition was based on the Deep Water Horizon incident in the Gulf of
Mexico several years ago.
The teams had 3 tasks:
1.
They had to present a PowerPoint about either buoyancy or leverage
to a panel of college professionals and industry experts
2. They had to design an oil skimmer for remove small floating pellets from
a wading pool
3. They had to design a system to pull an underwater switch to stop the
flow of oil from underwater and they had to cap an oil leak.
The teams were also judged on team work and correctly documenting their
work.

ADDRESSING THE NEEDS The Board of Education unanimously votes
OF CURRENT AND
to put Proposition E on the April ballot to
accommodate continued enrollment growth.
FUTURE GROWTH!
25 cent tax levy increase
Proceeds will pay for:
 NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
 CLASSROOM ADDITIONS
to existing schools
 PHASE TWO of Liberty High
The WSD has been the fastest growing school district in Missouri in the
21st Century. Enrollment has increased by more than 8,000 students since 2001,
averaging well over 600 new students every year. According to projections in a
demographic study released last year by Business Information Services, LLC,
the WSD could add more than 5,000 new students over the next decade. The
report’s key findings include calculations that indicate one third of the District’s
schools are currently over capacity, and an estimate that the District will need an
additional 2.5 million square feet of building space to handle the increasing
enrollment over the next ten years.
 Equipment and furniture for
new classrooms
 Enhanced Security throughout
the District
 Science and FACS classroom
Based on voter feedback, Proposition E was modified from the November 2014
election to include additional classrooms at Holt High School and provide the
funds necessary to purchase land for future school sites. The operating levy
will require a simple majority from voters and includes a Sunset Clause that
would expire no later than 2035.

ARE YOU REGISTERED TO VOTE?
In any election, every vote is important. It is critical that you remember to vote and remind your friends and family to do the same. To be eligible to
vote in the April election, District residents must be registered by March 11. Voter registration forms are at all public schools and libraries and you
can register online at www.sos.mo.gov/elections/govotemissouri/register.aspx. For more information about registering, or to request an absentee
ballot, contact the St. Charles County Election Authority: 636-949-7550 or www.sccmo.org/410/Election-Authority.

If you own a $15,000 vehicle, you can expect to pay an additional
$1.04 per month if Proposition E passes.
Proposition E will require a simple majority to pass
and includes a Sunset Clause that will expire
