Project Description :
The Federal Government has approved a plan to build a central workshop and railway training centre in
Batu Gajah for KTM Bhd. The project is said to be a priority as KTM's present base in Sentul will be
giving way for residential and commercial development activities.
The project involves the construction of several buildings on a 160-hectare site as part of a new rail
infrastructure development plan.
The plan calls for a dedicated centre to undertake major maintenance and overhaul of KTM's rolling stock,
as well as a centre to manufacture locally-assembled wagons and coaches, which are currently mostly
imported from Europe.
This project is mainly involved in laying fiber optic and copper cables.
The major works carried out by Specom Engineering are:
• Installation of manholes – JC9C and JRC7
• Laying of PVC ducts – 150 & 100m
• Testing & commissioning fiber optic cables

A professional mobile radio and two-way transceiver was specifically designed to suite KTMB for the their
communication purposed.
A fully digital system, TETRA employs the open system architecture, providing for internetworking with
other communication network via standard interfaces.
TETRA makes efficient use of available spectrum – packing four channels into a single RF carrier,
occupying only 25 kHz of bandwidth. This leads to significant gains in traffic density and can reduce the
complexity and expenses of base station combining equipment.
