28th Season • 702 Games • 609 Wins • .868 Winning Percentage
Since 1985, the University of Louisiana and its
perennial powerhouse softball program has called
Alfred and Helen Lamson Ragin’ Cajuns Softball Park its
very own home.
And what a home it is.
Often called the most beautiful and nostalgic field in
the country by opposing teams who play on it, Lamson
Park will have quite a new feel for the 2011 season. The
park will further its place as one of the finest softball
fields in the country as a $2.1 million renovation, which
began in the winter of 2009, is completed.
The renovation includes a new mostly-covered
grandstand between dugouts, three private luxury
boxes and a 50-seat Stadium Club. Fans will also notice
more seating beyond the outfield fence. All of these
new seats bring the capacity of Lamson Park up to
2,790.
Also, a new press box with three broadcast booths
capable of hosting NCAA Regionals will be included.
The Cajuns also welcome a larger and more
functional locker room that includes a technologydriven meeting room.
In addition to ammenities coming in 2011, fans will

Other features added included a public address
system and an electronic scoreboard in right field,
which also included a message board.
Lamson Park had a 225-foot fence encircling the
entire field until the 1995 season. NCAA regulations
called for an adjustment of the fence so that all possible
Regional sites could be uniform. The fence now reaches
200-feet down the lines and 220-feet in centerfield.
The five-foot high red wall gave up few home runs
until the implementation of the neon ball in 1993 by
the NCAA, which allows for a more “offensive” game.
Five home runs left the park in 1993. In 2001, the Ragin’
Cajuns said good-bye 40 times and 34 more in 2002.
During the 2003 season, the Cajuns hit a park-record
58 home runs.
Under the Lotiefs, Lamson Park began to see several
additions and improvements. In 2002, a brick wall was
added to the backstop and a new lighting system was
installed just in time for the Ragin’ Cajuns to host a 2002
NCAA Regional. The lighting system allowed Lamson
Park to meet the NCAA lighting standards for hosting
an NCAA Regional, an amenity in which few facilities
across the country compare to.
The all-time Lamson Park attendance high occurred
on April 18, 2001, when 1,729 managed to pack into
the facility as Louisiana hosted in-state rival LSU in a
doubleheader. The two nationally-ranked programs
split the doubleheader, as fans lined the fences for the
Louisiana intercollegiate softball attendance record.
Lamson Park has hosted eight NCAA Regionals (last
was 2002) and the 2000 and 2004 Sun Belt Conference
tournaments. The park is scheduled to host the Sun
Belt Conference tournament once again in 2011.

By the Numbers
7.76
The Cajuns scored 481 runs and averaged
7.76 runs per game in 2011. That is the
highest average and highest total in the
nation. Also, the 481 runs are a new UL and
Sun Belt record and are teh tenth most in a
single-season in NCAA history.
45+
Louisiana has posted at least 45 wins in each
of those past 13 seasons, including eight
seasons in which the Cajuns reached the 50win plateau and one season with 60 wins.
101
Junior outfielder Christi Orgeron recorded
101 RBI in 2011. That broke the Sun Belt and
UL single-season record set in 2001 by Alana
Addison. The single-season total is the third
highest in NCAA history and the highest
since 1996.
10
2012 Season Preview
• The 2012 season marks the 12th season under the direction of co-head coaches Stefni and Michael
Lotief. Under the guidance of the Lotief’s the Ragin’ Cajuns have won 10 of the past 11 Sun Belt
Conference regular season championships and posted 50-plus victories seven times.
• The Cajuns lost only one senior from the 2011 squad in Gabriele Bridges. Louisiana has virtually the
same squad intact in 2012 that finished the 2011 season as the nation’s top offense with a school and
Sun Belt record 481 runs, giving them an average of 7.76 runs per game. The Cajuns’ 481 runs scored
last season mark the 10th highest single-season total in NCAA history.
• The Cajuns return 15 letterwinners and eight position starters from the 2011 squad, including USA
Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Finalist and Team USA member Christi Orgeron, who became the
fourth person in NCAA history with 100 RBI in 2011. Orgeron led the Cajuns with a .414 batting average
and 23 home runs in 2011.
• Louisiana’s hard work was not only evident on the field, but as well as in the classroom as they
finished with a team GPA of 3.2 last spring.
• Orgeron was selected to the 2011 USA Softball Women’s National Team and helped Team USA to
gold medal titles at the World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City in July and the Pan American Games
in October. She became the first UL softball player to earn a spot on the USA National Team and third
to compete with USA Softball, joining Alana Addison (2002 Elite team) and Brooke Mitchell (2004 Elite
team).
• Shortstop Nerissa Myers also returns in 2012, a year after leading the Cajuns and tying a UL and Sun
Belt record with 77 runs scored. The speedy shortstop reached base in all but four games for the Cajuns
as she posted a .498 on base percentage.
• Myers was arguably statistically the Sun Belt’s top shortstop in 2011. Playing at one of the toughest
positions to field in softball at shortstop, Myers turned in an impressive .974 fielding percentage. She
committed only five errors in 194 total chances.
• Ashley Brignac also returns in the circle for UL in 2012. She will be seeking the third 30-win season
of her career. The 2011 Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year and Capital One Academic All-American of the Year
will be joined by three other returners in Allie Chenault, Christina Hamilton and Shelbee Rodgers.
• Brignac enters the 2012 season just five wins shy of the Cajuns career Top 5 list in pitching victories.
She needs just 142 strikeouts to move into second place all-time and would need to amass 322 to join
Brooke Mitchell as the only Cajuns pitchers to reach 1,000 career strikeouts.
• The Ragin’ Cajuns add notable newcomers including freshman pitchers Jordan Wallace (0.00 ERA in
Fall) and Maggie Ham. Arizona transfer Matte Haack will be joining the squad as well to give the infield
more depth.
• In 2011, Louisiana made its 13th straight NCAA Regionals appearance since 1999 and the 21st in
the last 22 years. Since 1990, UL has missed the “Field of 64” only once (1998).
• The Cajuns rank ninth in total NCAA appearances with 21, 10th with 50 NCAA Tournament victories
and 11th for consecutive NCAA Regional appearances.
• Louisiana is set for its first full season at newly renovated Lamson Park. The facility made its debut
for the 2011 Sun Belt Tournament and was completely refurbished during the summer months. The
state-of-the-art facility will seat 2,790 fans.
• Of the 11 seasons that the Sun Belt has had a regular season champion, UL has won 10. The Cajuns
have also won 11 out of 12 Sun Belt Conference Tournaments.
Christi Orgeron was named one of 10
finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate
Player of the Year Award. The award is the
most prestigious individual award in college
softball.
45
Orgeron and Bridges were the most
powerful duo in the nation with 45
combined home runs. In fact, that total was
more than seven entire Sun Belt Teams
96-30
The speedy Cajuns stole 96 bses in 2011.
Four different Cajuns had at least 15 steals.
Sarah Draheim started every game behind
the plate to hold opponents to a Sun Belt
low 30 steals.
23
The Cajuns pitching staff posted 23 shutouts
in 2011. One of those was against then No.
3/1 Alabama on March 4. The Cajuns were
shutout just once. Gaspard extended the
streak last season by hitting .422 for the year.

Ragin’ Cajuns Softball
In 2001 Stefni Lotief was named the head
coach of the perennially ranked Ragin’ Cajuns
softball program after being one of the most
successful players in the history of the storied
program. Since 2003, she has served alongside
husband Michael Lotief as co-head coach of the
program.
No stranger to success in her days as an AllAmerican pitcher for Louisiana from 1987-1990,
Lotief has continued that success as co-head
coach and kept the Ragin’ Cajuns as one of the
nation’s premier programs guiding the Cajuns to
seven NCAA Regional championship games, a two
Super Regionals and two Women’s College World
Series appearance in her first ten seasons at the
helm.
In Lotief, the Ragin’ Cajuns’ pitching staff has
one of the top mentors in the nation. In the last
four seasons, the Cajuns pitching staff have had
two freshmen (Brittany Cuevas, 2007 and Ashley
Brignac, 2008) who have won 30 games in the
circle and posted 300-plus strikeouts.
In addition to her pitching staff duties, Lotief
manages the softball program’s administrative
duties and spearheads the program’s fundraising
arm.
A Winning Tradition
Lotief holds an overall record of 497-128
(.795) at the University of Louisiana and has
posted 50-plus victories six times in ten seasons.
Her career winning percentage ranks near the
top in the NCAA record books amongst all active
Division I head coaches.
Lotief’s teams claimed the Sun Belt
Conference regular season and tournament
championships in her first six seasons and posted
the first undefeated conference record in program
history in 2004 (18-0). She has led the program to
NCAA Regionals in each season and the Women’s
College World Series in 2003 and 2008.
She has compiled a 167-30 (.848) record in
Sun Belt games.
Attracting Homegrown Talent
Alongside her husband and co-head coach
Michael Lotief, she has been able to maintain the
high standards of the program with “hometown”
athletes, affirming her belief that the state of
Louisiana and East Texas is a hotbed for college
softball.
“Most of the players on this team are
‘hometown girls’,” she said. “The coaches are
hometown people. All of us, for the most part,
were overlooked by the ‘big’ schools in the
recruiting process.
“We had the courage to make a choice to
defy the naysayers and conventional wisdom and
stay close to home, near family and friends and
pursue excellence,” she added. “All of us came here
with hopes and dreams. Add to that hard-work
and solid preparation – it creates an environment
where people care about each other – and add in a
community where fans and families who support
and believe in the dreams and hopes, and watch
the dreams become reality.”
Coaching at Louisiana
Lotief has garnered Sun Belt Conference
Coach of the Year honors six times (2001, 2002,
2004, 2005, 2006, 2010) and Louisiana Coach of
the Year honors four times (2003, 2004, 2005,
2008).
In 2010, UL won its third straight Sun Belt
Regular Season Title and their thrid cosecutive
Sun Belt Tournament Championship. The Cajuns
defeated No.18 Texas A&M twice and host No.17
LSU once to advance through the Baton Rouge
Regional. UL fell to eventual National Champion
UCLA in the Super Regional.
In 2009, the Ragin’ Cajuns reclaimed the Sun
Belt Conference regular season and tournament
titles for the second season in a row after being
edged out in 2007 by Florida Atlantic.
In 2008, Louisiana won the Baton Rouge
Regional defeating LSU in the winner’s bracket
final and championship game to advance to the
Super Regional round in Houston. The Cajuns won
the Houston Super Regional to advance to the
second WCWS appearance under Lotief. Louisiana
would defeat No.1 national seed Florida in the
WCWS opening game.
From 2004 through 2006 the Cajuns won
50-plus games. It was the first time in program
history that Louisiana reached 50 wins in three
consecutive seasons. The 2004 team marched its
way to a school-record 60 victories and ended
national power Arizona’s string of 16 straight
Women’s College World Series berths with a 5-0
win at the NCAA Regional No. 1 semifinal held in

Lotief’s second season (2002) was highlighted
by an NCAA Regional held at Alfred and Helen
Lamson Ragin’ Cajuns Softball Park, the first time
since 1997 that UL had hosted a regional. She was
also instrumental in getting a new lighting system
for the park, an accomplishment which helped the
school land the regional bid.
The 50-win season was the second straight
for the program and Lotief and it marked just the
second time in school history that the Cajuns had
back-toback such seasons. Lotief became the
fastest to 100 wins in school history as well.
Award-Winning Results
Since arriving in 2001, Lotief has demanded
that her team performs both on and off the field.
Her squads have set high academic standards and
maintained them.
In 2002-03, a total of 12 members (out of 18
total) on the team were members of the Sun Belt
Conference Academic Honor Roll. Six received
recognition of being named to the Commissioner’s
List (3.5 GPA and above).
The Cajuns topped that mark in 2009-10
when a total of 20 (out of 26) student-athletes were
recognized by the Sun Belt. Eleven were named to
the Academic Honor Roll while nine landed on the
Commisioner’s List.
That success went a step further in 2004 when
Brooke Mitchell was named a CoSIDA Academic AllAmerican – the first such selection for the program
since 1997.
The Ragin’ Cajuns have had 115 All-Sun Belt
Academic honorees under Lotief.
The 2008 squad earned Dean’s List Honors
with a 3.24 overall GPA. Of the 25 members, 16 were
named to the Honor Roll with nine players earning
President’s List accolades for the Fall 2007 Semester.
The Spring 2008 semester saw 14 student-athletes
post a 3.0 or better. Freshman Ashley Brignac
posted a 4.0 GPA in both the Fall 2007 and Spring
2008 semesters.
The program has produced college graduates
as well. In the 2006-07 academic year nine studentathletes coached by Lotief earned college degrees.
On the playing field, Lotief has helped mold
six players into All-American status and her system
has produced a total of nine All-American selections
– Alana Addison (2001), Becky McMurtry (2002 &
2003), Danyele Gomez (2003, 2005 & 2006), Brooke
Mitchell (2004), Holly Tankersley (2008) and Karli
Hubbard (2009).
The system that she along with her husband
and co-head coach Michael Lotief have installed
has generated 68 All-Sun Belt Conference athletes
including 51 first team selections. Louisiana has
produced the Player of the Year eight times, Pitcher
of the Year nine times and Freshman of the Year six
times.

Her collegiate coaching experience is not just
with Louisiana. In 1992, Lotief was the pitching
coach at North Carolina. She later returned to
Louisiana as an assistant pitching and catching
coach for the Cajuns during the 1996 and 1997
seasons.
Before joining the Ragin’ Cajuns’ program
as cohead coach, she was the head coach and
president of the Louisiana Image, one of the best
American Softball Association fastpitch teams in
the country. As the mentor of the Image, Lotief
worked with some of the best college players in the
country.
She also served as a marketing instructor
and Assistant Dean in the College of Business
Administration at UL.
Coach Profiles
Tucson, Ariz..
Perhaps her best work as the Ragin’ Cajuns
pitching instructor took place in 2009. The Cajuns
finished second in nation with a 1.02 team ERA with
opponents posting a meager .166 batting average.
In 2006, She worked with a pair of pitchers
who were tossing at the Division I level for the first
time ever – Krystal Lewallen and Ashley Kirchberg –
and guided them both to 20-win seasons.
In 2005, the pitching staff posted a Lotief Erabest 32 shutouts and reached 500 strikeouts for the
second straight season.
Under her tutelage in 2004, All-American
pitcher Brooke Mitchell set the single-season
record for strikeouts with 524 and led the nation in
victories with 45 en route to being named an NFCA/
Louisville Slugger Division I First Team All-American.
The pitching staff’s earned run average of 0.90
ranked second in the NCAA stats.
The Cajuns ended the 2004 season ranked
No. 10 in the final NFCA Top 25 poll – the second
straight season with a Top 10 finish.
In 2003, Lotief and her squad saw their dreams
come true and hard work pay off. She guided the
program to the pinnacle of the college softball world
with an appearance in the 2003 Women’s College
World Series – theprogram’s first appearance during
her tenure. The Cajuns ended No. 8 in the final Top
25 poll – the highest final ranking since the 1996
season.
In her first season in Lafayette, she led the
team to a 51-10 record, one of the best marks
in school history, Sun Belt Conference regular
season and tournament championships. Under her
tutelage, pitcher Melissa Coronado set the school
record for wins (35).

MICHAEL LOTIEF
Co-Head Coach • 10th Season
Overall Record: 447-116 (.794) • Sun Belt Record: 152-33 (.822)
Regarded as one of the best offensive
minds in the game of college softball,
Michael Lotief has been a member of the
Ragin’ Cajuns softball coaching staff since
2001. He has served alongside his wife,
Stefni Lotief, as co-head coach since 2003.
Michael’s career includes over 20 years
of experience from nearly every level of
softball and baseball.
The first to arrive at the park and the
last to leave, Lotief has been the driving
force behind the continued success of Ragin’
Cajuns softball.
His passion, dedication, work ethic and
knowledge have contributed to turning the
Ragin’ Cajuns hitters into one of the most
productive offensive units in the country.
“Hitting is an art,” Lotief said. “Hitting is
a science too. It is the most difficult skill to
perform in all of sports.”
“I love the challenge of teaching
hitting,” he added. “I love to talk hitting with
our players and analyze their mechanics
and break down video with them and figure
out a way to help our players be the best
in the country and realize their dreams and
potential. When they hit a bomb it makes
all those hours of throwing batting practice
worth it.”
Besides hitting, Lotief’s responsibilities
also include recruiting, infield defense,
fundraising, camps and clinics.
The System
The results are amazing.
From 2002 to 2006, Lotief’s hitting
system produced at least 70 home runs and
ranked in the Top 30 of nearly every hitting
category in the NCAA stats.
The run included a string of three
straight seasons (2002 through 2004) in
which the offense set the record for school
home runs in succession (76 in 2002, 79 in
2003 and 88 in 2004).
In 2006, his hitting system wielded the
first 100 home run season in school history.
Three of his hitters – Danyele Gomez, Ashley
Evans and Lacey Bertucci – ranked in the Top
10 of all NCAA Division I hitters in home runs.
Under his guidance the squad ranked in
the Top 5 in the NCAA statistical rankings for
home runs per game for five straight seasons
(2002 through 2006) which included a No. 2
ranking in 2006 (1.65 home runs per game).
As with any system, individuals make up
the different components which enable it to
thrive. Lotief’s hitting system has seen some
talented individuals put up some impressive
numbers. He has tutored the Ragin’ Cajuns’
top four career home run hitters.
Lotief molded the most accomplished
hitter in school history, Danyele Gomez.
Behind his guidance, Gomez, a freshman not
recruited out of high school, turned out to
be a steal for the Cajuns’ coaching staff. She
set the school single season and freshman
records for home runs by going yard 20
times in 2003.
In the 2005 season, Lotief saw another
amazing season out of Gomez as she belted

20 home runs for the second time in her
career. In 2006, he saw the completion of a
stellar career by Gomez. She became only
the third player in NCAA history to hit 30
home runs in a season and led the nation in
home runs, slugging percentage and runs
scored per game.
Under Lotief’s system, Gomez ended
her career with 83 career home runs which
ranks fourth all-time in the NCAA record
books and broke the previous school record
of 57 home runs set by Alana Addison (2002).
Another freshman had a banner season
working in Lotief’s system. Holly Tankersley
eclipsed Gomez’s single-season and
freshman records with 21 home runs in 2004.
Tankersley went on to hit 71 career home
runs which ranks second in school history.
Lotief also worked with Lacey Bertucci, the
school’s No. 3 career home run hitter with
58. In all, he has coached four players who
reached 50-plus career home runs (Gomez,
Tankersley, Bertucci and Addison).

accomplishments of the system came in

history. It all happened with a team that did

Webre-LeBlanc is expected to contribute in all
phases of the program. Her knowledge as an AllSun Belt catcher will give her expertise in helping
pitchers in the bullpen, while critiquing the Cajuns
catchers. With experience playing shortstop, she is
also expected to provide defensive instruction for
the infielders.
“She is not your typical assistant coach,” said cohead coach Michael Lotief. “She understands the
big picture and her knowledge and experience
will help our staff immensely.
“She has been a winner everywhere she has been,
whether it has been here as a student-athlete/
coach at UL or as a head coach at the high school
level.”
Webre-LeBlanc first served as the Cajuns assistant
coach in 2008 and helped guide the team to
Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.
In 2009, she helped the Cajuns claim their ninth
Sun Belt Conference championship and advance
to the NCAA Regional championship game
against Baylor.
The Lafayette native played for Louisiana from
2002-2005. She was a member of co-head coaches
Michael and Stefni Lotief’s first-ever recruiting
class that landed the coaching duo their first
WCWS appearance in 2003.
Webre-LeBlanc started every game during
her four-year career - a total of 248 games establishing herself in the record books. She
finished in the Top 5 for most games played (248)
and set the career record for putouts with 1,818.
She had two seasons of double-digit homeruns
and ended her career with 34 round-trippers. She
also tied for second place all-time with 16 sacrifice
flies.
Webre-LeBlanc was the battery mate for AllAmerican pitcher Brooke Mitchell, and played a
significant role in Mitchell’s record breaking career.
Webre-LeBlanc was a member of the Sun Belt
Honor Roll in 2001-2002 and the Sun Belt
Commissioner’s List in 2002-2003. On the field
she was a two-time All-Sun Belt and two-time AllLouisiana selection.
“Joy is part of our family,” said co-head coach
Michael Lotief. “She spent four years as a player
and two as an assistant. Her organization,
knowledge of the game and competiveness
makes her a great asset to our team.”
Webre-Leblanc earned a bachelor’s degree in
chemistry from the University of Louisiana in
2005. She is married to Jake LeBlanc, who is a
native of Lafayette. The couple has one daughter,
Kennedy Hope LeBlanc.
