Jakub studies at Secondary School in České Budějovice where he commutes from his hometown Jindřichův Hradec. Except doing sport, Jakub also plays guitar. Both his parents are blue-collar workers. Martina Sablíková (a multiple gold medal winner at Olympic Games and various European Championships) is Jakub´s idol. EUROGYM 2016 – HELP FOR FRIENDS is a charity event helping out children from České Budějovice and nearby villages who want to do sport. You can buy different merchandise from our E-shop with the EUROGYM 2016 logo. Part of the money spent on our products will be donated to help children in need from České Budějovice and nearby. Unfortunately, the speed Children from Žíchovec orphanage have drawn a few pictures for us how they imagine EUROGYM 2016 participants. Can you see yourselves in them? Just to remind you – Žíchovec Orphanage is one of the partners of HELP FOR FRIENDS. By buying EUROGYM 2016 merchandise you will help the children to have their sports dreams come true. The management of the orphanage is planning to buy new inline skates for the children with the raised money. GET UP AND MOVE! Tomáš is 17 years old and lives in Netolice – a small town close to České Budějovic. He was born with spina bofida (cleft spine) despite that fact he is a very active person. Thanks to you he is able to get the necessary equipment for his loved sports. 5 LOCATION OF THE STAGES All four open-air stages will be placed at cool and attractive places within the city of České Budějovice. The first stage will be located in Marian Square (Mariánské náměstí) which is close to the city centre. The second stage will be in a pedestrian zone of Lannova Street which is full of cafes, little shops and restaurants. Falcon Island (Sokolský ostrov) is a location of the third stage which can be called the sporty heart of the city. The last fourth stage will be right in the city centre in Přemysl Otakar II. Square, in front of the town hall. 3 stages will be roofed, with roofs 8 meters high above the stage. Only the Lannova Street stage will be roofless. Each stage is 14x14 m big and includes a safety zone and these equipment: two podiums will be equipped by: carpet, airtrack, benches, spring board, vaulting boxes both wooden and foam, small trampette, beam and many matts of different sizes two other podiums will be equipped by: carpet, foam vaulting boxes, spring boards, trampette and different matts. 6 We are prepared for both dry and wet weather conditions. Information for performers The maximum length of the performance is 6 minutes including coming and leaving the stage as well as operating with equipment. It is necessary to keep the time limit otherwise it would be difficult to stick to the timetable. No alternative times for those who will miss their assigned performance time. Each performing stage is 14mx14m big and is covered with gymnastic carpet. No other spaces for performing are available. Air track (size 18m x 2.5m x 0.3m) will be placed in front of the stage. It is available only for those who requested it during the registration. Each registered group can perform only twice during the whole festival. GYMZONE The Gymzone will be located in the immediate vicinity of the dormitory and school canteen which we find as a well-chosen location because of several reasons. Firstly, we are expecting that many of the participants will be gathering there during the 2016 EUROGYM. Secondly, the Gymzone is situated in a pleasant location full of trees and greenery. Thirdly, due to its location the zone can stay open until late. And lastly, it is very close to the Exhibition Centre where many workshops will be held. The Gymzone will be opened daily with respect to the EUROGYM programme so the participants will be able to relax and have fun there. On one hand, part of the sports fields will be available without any time restrictions, on the other, some sports attractions will be available from afternoon till evening but not during Gala evening or Opening and Closing Ceremony. VOLUNTEERS Our 280 volunteers are a key part of our organizational structure of the 2016 EUROGYM. Most of them are students and residents of the city of České Budějovice, some come from other Czech cities and around 50 volunteers are from abroad. As during past years all the volunteers are working for free but all costs for accommodation, food, transportation and necessary equipment for the job will be covered for them. They will also have free access to all the 2016 EUROGYM events. workshops, will tell you when is your performance coming up or will bring you your equipment for Gala Evening... While 2016 EUROGYM participants are coming to have fun and meet new people, the volunteers are here to work and help you. We are very glad that nowadays many people are interested in volunteering. Becoming a volunteer at EUROGYM is an easy thing; however, this year´s registration has already been closed. It is a known fact that organizing an event would not be possible without volunteers and the same goes for EUROGYM. Our volunteers will be omnipresent – they will serve food, help you to get on the right bus, direct you to the 7 ACCOMODATION A hall of residence and school buildings are major accommodation for the participants of EUROGYM 2016 right in the centre of České Budějovice. České Budějovice is a very important Czech university city. Thanks to that fact around two thousands EUROGYM 2016 participants can stay at the local hall of residence. Other participants can be accommodated at local schools. There are two possibilities where participants can sleep during the gymnastics event EUROGYM 2016 – either on the floor of the school or in bed in hall of residence. In case of sleeping on the floor it is necessary to bring own sleeping mats and sleeping bags! Sleeping in beds will also be possible at other local dormitories. This year there are more available beds for participants than sleeping on the floor. The participation fee is the same no matter if you choose sleeping in bed or on the floor. The official hotel for the UEG members, guests and leaders of delegations is Clarion Hotel. 8 The hotel is situated near the centre of České Budějovice and offers mostly double rooms. Both the hall of residence and main schools accommodating the 2016 EUROGYM participants are strategically located. For example, the school building in Kubátova Street is very close to the historical centre as well as a few minute walk to the Exhibition Centre where many workshops of 2016 EUROGYM are held. Another school accommodating the participants, named after a famous Czech composer Oskar Nedbal is located round the corner from a school canteen and the Exhibition Centre. Other participants staying at Elementary School Máj I will be 3 kms away from the Exhibition Centre that is not that bad either, especially when buses are available. All mentioned schools and dormitories are equipped with a sufficient amount of bathrooms and have modern equipment and facilities which the participants will be able to enjoy during the event. TRANSPORTATION TO ČESKÉ BUDĚJOVICE The city of České Budějovice is located in the South Bohemia region, approximately 150 kilometres south of Prague. If travelling by car, take D3 highway and road no. E55. It takes about two hours to České Budějovice from Prague. The closest international airport is Václav Havel Airport in Prague with regular flights to around 100 European destinations. The participants can also fly to and from international airport in Linz Austria. Trains are another option. České Budějovice has direct train connections to Prague and Linz. You can reach České Budějovice within two and half hours from Prague by train.
