Thoughts Worth Sharing
By Father Wayne C. Genereux, Pastor
Dear Friends in Christ,
Faith Formation Begins September 18
September 18, we will celebrate Catechetical Sunday at the 9:30 a.m. Mass.
This is the official day that we open our year of Faith Formation. All parents,
students, and our Faith Formation Faculty will come together as we begin
another year of Faith Formation for our young people. All of our teachers will
also be commissioned during the Mass. This year we will focus on the theme
“Prayer: The Faith Prayed”. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity
to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing
on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an
opportunity for all of us to rededicate ourselves as a community of faith.
During the next two weeks parents will be receiving a registration packet. We
are asking that all parents return the information as soon as possible.
Father Wayne’s Schedule
Beginning August 22 – September 1, I will be away for some days of retreat
and vacation. In my absence Father Rick Rosen, from St. Petersburg Catholic
High School, and Msgr. Dechering will be covering my Masses. Sister Jean
Barrett will also be on vacation in Syracuse, New York, to visit with her family
and religious community. She will return after Labor Day. Greg McMahon
of our Maintenance staff will also be away.

New Calendar to be Published
The Liturgical and Social Calendar will be ready for distribution on Labor Day
as we kick off the Fall, Winter, and Spring Liturgical, and Social Events. I
think it will be an exciting year ahead.
Update on the New Bishop to Come
I can report that the Vatican has received Bishop Lynch’s letter asking for
retirement. The next phase is already underway. However, most offices at
the Vatican are on a Summer recess, and work does not officially begin until
the middle of September or first part of October. All the universities, and
seminaries in Rome begin classes the middle of October. We may not hear
anything until March or April of 2017.
Kind personal regards,
Father Wayne C. Genereux, Pastor
MINISTRY
TO
THE
H O M E B O U N D
Many parishioners, aged or ill,
are no longer able to be present
at Mass and are grateful for the
weekly gift of the Eucharist
and the caring visit by the Ministers.
Ministers are sent forth on Sundays
following the 8 and 9:30 a.m. Mass and are
a positive link between the worship
community and those whom they visit. Please
pray to discern if this rewarding ministry of
service, one that offers strength and hope to
the homebound, is calling you.
Training will be provided and you would only
be scheduled once every four or five weeks.
If interested, please contact Sr. Jean, 8673663, ext. 303.
GRIEF SUPPORT
GROUP
Our Parish is present for
those whose loved ones
have died. Hope is provided through a
sharing of group support, understanding and
friendship. A new support group will meet
on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 10 a.m. Please
contact Sr. Jean at 867-3663, Ext. 303 for
further information.

Our standards in our society are so different from
God’s standards. We often rate or rank people
by what they have, how powerful they are, or
how successful they are. Jesus reminds us that
God will not judge us by the same earthly
standards.

Prayer for a
New Bishop
Diocese of St.
Petersburg
Almighty and all loving God, Eternal Shepherd and
Guide, we are grateful for Bishop Lynch and his
twenty years of ministry in our diocese.
During this time of transition, we trust in Your love,
confident that You will once again give the Diocese
of St. Petersburg a Shepherd who will inspire us to
be Christ’s heart of mercy, His voice of hope, and
hands of justice.
Guide our new bishop to enlighten our hearts and
minds with the truth of the Gospel, the power of the
sacraments, and the desire to serve you in all things.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
