84th Annual Dinner Will Focus on
Recognition
It Will Be 26 Years of Thanking
Dunedin’s Teachers
This year’s Annual Dinner marks the beginning of the
Chamber’s 84th year of service to Dunedin. You are
invited to join in the celebration, watch the change in
leadership, and give some very deserving individuals
and businesses a pat on the back. Plus it promises a
great meal, time with friends new and old, and an
opportunity to look back at an interesting year.
Mark your calendars now for Saturday, January 16.
The Annual Dinner will take place at Bon Appetit, with
cocktails at 6:30 p.m., followed by the dinner and
program. In spite of the challenges of 2009, there are
many people to thank for this year’s successes and
fun to be had while doing it. Now it’s time to let Chair
Lou Galdieri (Mease Dunedin/Mease Countryside Hospitals) reflect upon his year and learn what incoming
Chair Jack Norton (Mease Manor) has planned at the
helm of the organization for 2010. It’s hard to believe
we’re already starting the second decade of the 2000’s!
The Chamber experienced many positives this year
under Lou’s leadership and now it’s time to recognize
all who joined with him to help make them possible.
Plus it’s the Chamber’s opportunity to name the newest recipient of several coveted awards like the Beatrice
Donoghue Delightful Dunedin Award, and the Small,
Medium and Large Businesses of the Year.
This year’s Annual Dinner is being sponsored by
Morton Plant Mease Foundation. The beautiful flower
arrangements are being designed by Karnation Korner
Florist and entertainment will be by the lovely and
talented Michelle Grossman.
The tantalizing dinner choices are either Slow Roasted
Prime Rib of Beef au jus or Pistachio crusted North
Atlantic Salmon with Goat Cheese Beurre Blanc. The
cost per person is $36 per person.
This year we’re going green and e-mailing invitations
to the Annual Dinner. You may print out your invitation
and mail it back but it’s much easier to do it on line. You
can make your meal selection at the same time.
Please plan to attend this very special event for our
Chamber and our community, join in the celebration,

Our Teachers Appreciation
Breakfast is celebrating its 26th
Anniversary!
The Annual Teacher’s Appreciation Breakfast is scheduled for Friday, January 22, at
the Dunedin Golf Club, 7:30 a.m.
There has already been a lot of support for the
teachers and the event this year thanks to the generosity of the Mease Dunedin Hospital, Mease Manor
and the Toronto/Dunedin Blue Jays and Huntington
Learning Center. Huntington Learning Center and
Chick-fil-A (Westfield Countryside Mall) are also generously providing a gift for each teacher. It’s going to
be a lovely celebration of our community’s teachers,
both from the public and private schools.
Please consider sponsoring a table of teachers for
this very special recognition program. Tables are
$125.00 each with one reserved seat for a representative from your business. Individual teachers may
also be sponsored at $20.00 per teacher. All table
sponsors are recognized in the programs given to all
teachers, from the podium during the breakfast, and in

Florida Encounter Meant $10,000
Economic Impact in Dunedin
On Tuesday, November 17, the State of Florida’s
tourism marketing arm, VISIT FLORIDA, in cooperation
with Visit St. Pete/Clearwater, Pinellas County’s tourism division, brought over 130 meeting planners from
around the United States to Pinellas County.
They stayed at Innisbrook Resort and were met by
representatives from meeting and convention facilities
from around the State of Florida. We were fortunate
enough to have this important delegation in Dunedin for
a “Dunedin Dine Around.” Each delegate was given
$75 in "Dunedin Dollars" to spend in our community,
mostly at area restaurants. The goal was to introduce
them to our city and the possibilities we have for

The November Business Before Hours was held
at a charming new business, Two Hands to Heal
and Soothing Cup Studio, located at 1019 MLK, Jr.
Blvd., just north of SR 580.
Owner Donna Griffiths and her wonderful staff
warmly greeted everyone at the event. Members
were given tours and educated on the many services this unique business offers.
The menu, featuring many types of coffees, teas,
sandwiches, pastries, and much more, was delightful to discover. Plus Donna and her staff
offered a wide range of pastries to sample, plus an
absolutely delicious yogurt parfait that was a hit
with everyone.

December Quarterly Lunch. Led by Seamus

members were treated to a wealth of information

Governmental Affairs – Focuses on City Issues
Members of the Chamber’s Governmental Affairs
Committee has an opportunity to get briefings on
several projects within the City of Dunedin thanks to a
visit from Vice Mayor Julie Scales.
Here are a few highlights from her comments:
Stormwater Fees & Unit Charge Discrepancies –
The commission is awaiting the audit results and will
focus on the issues again at their February workshop.
City staff is going through a total recalculation process
of all utility customers to ensure proper formulas are in
place.
Dunedin Golf Club – It’s official and both parties seem
to be happy with the new agreement.
Corridor Improvements – The Douglas and Patricia
Avenue corridor studies have been completed. The
Dunedin Causeway study will be starting soon, followed by the Main St. to the Marina study.
Elections in November – Most of the focus is on the
cost savings at this point. Voter turnout is also being
considered, as well as awareness of the elections.

which began in Dunedin’s Tourism Marketing Committee, “Visit Dunedin.” This group has been talking
about a branding opportunity, which will be going
before the Commission for a formal agreement. It’s a
process that will be open to everyone in the community
for input. Watch your e-mail and newsletter for more
on this important opportunity.
The DOT will be resurfacing SR 580/Main St. this
spring. The City is looking at establishing a median at
Virginia and Pinehurst to make pedestrian crossing
safer.The 24-acre former Nielsen site is now owned by
Wells Fargo and under a new broker. Mixed use
options, the main building structure, and looking at
parts of the property as parcels, are under consideration and discussion.
The City’s budget, Orangewood/Dunedin Isles and
the drainage issues were also discussed.
The Governmental Affairs Committee is open to any
Chamber member interested in attending. Next month,
Mayor Dave Eggers joins the group to start of the new
year on Tuesday, January 8, 8 a.m., in the Chamber’s
Board Room, 301 Main St.

Nice Green & Beautiful Hosted Fantastic Business After Hours
The hosts of the October Business After Hours, (lr) Nice Green & Beautiful’s owners, George &
Melody Ruiz, and General Manager Daisy Earls.
If you are looking for any outside improvements – pavers, pergolas, outside kitchens, plants & landscaping, ponds, fire pits and
more – Nice Green & Beautiful’s Business After Hours was the
place to be. And it still is if you’re making your outside living space
more livable!
The food was fantastic and abundant thanks to the generosity of
Nice Green & Beautiful’s owners, Melody and George Ruiz, as well
as expertly prepared and presented by Marguerite’s Deli & Catering. Plus every member attending was given a $25 gift certificate
for use on any purchase at NG & B and steel drum music filled the
space, making everything feel more fun and festive. To make
things even more memorable, the organizer extraordinaire, NG &
B’s General Manager Daisy Earls, gave everyone who could find
one a yard gnome. It was pretty funny seeing 30+ members
carrying out their newly found gnome at the end of the event.
Very special thanks to Melody and George Ruiz, Daisy Earls, and
all the staff at Nice Green and Beautiful Landscaping, as well as
Nice Cool & Beautiful Ponds, for creating such a fun and interesting

Glencairn Cottages Opened for Business Before Hours
Glencairn Cottages is the result
of the vision and creativity of
Carl Krave, who talked a little
about the community at the Business Before Hours.
It was a long process, but Dunedin’s newest and most interesting neighborhood,
Glencairn Cottages,finally came into being when the first modular home was
completed in a few short weeks. Now the neighborhood features three homes,
with another one on the way.
When completed, Glencairn will feature 14 cottages ranging from 1,476 to 2,000
square feet, and is Tampa Bay’s first ALL-GREEN community, certified by the
Florida Green Building Coalition.
At the December Business Before Hours, members had the opportunity to tour
the original model, as well as meet some of the neighborhood’s new residents.
Carl Krave (Glencairn Cottages/Pocket Neighborhoods) and his business partner, Mark Brandt, welcomed everyone to the event. Members took the opportunity
to tour the model, upstairs and down, and get a sense of the quality and desirability
of the home.
Very special thanks to Carl and Mark for making members feel so welcomed,
especially on a blustery morning. If you haven’t visited the Glencairn community,
located just south of Main Street on Douglas Avenue, take the time to do so. You’ll
be glad you did.

Mease Manor, a retirement community located at
700 Mease Plaza, has redesigned and enhanced their
website, www.measemanor.com. It is now more user
friendly and functional.
Dunedin Beads, owned by Bobbie Sheehan, has
moved to their new location in Stirling Commons at 730
Broadway.

As we usher in the new year, we’ll also introduce a
new look to the Chamber’s newsletter, thanks to the
creative folks at AdSharp.
The new format is easier to read and in a blog format.
It’s colorful and totally new for us. We hope you’ll enjoy

Nominations from the membership shall be delivered to the Chamber office no later than ten (10) days after this
publication of the nominating committee’s report.
In the event there are nominations from the membership, an election ballot consisting of the nominees from both
the Board and the membership shall be submitted to the membership for a vote. In the event there are no
nominations from the membership, the Board at its next regular meeting declares the nominations closed, and the
nominations submitted by the Board will be deemed elected by acclamation. All newly elected Directors shall
commence their term on the first day of the year.

At end of the night, when all the checks were tallied,
$10,000 had been spent in Dunedin, not only benefiting
the restaurants, but several shops as well. The guests
named their Dunedin visit as one of the highlights of
their stay and all were pleased with the opportunity to
get to know our community.
A very special thank you to DT Minich, Executive
Director of Visit St. Pete/Clearwater, and his staff for all
they did to showcase Dunedin. Thanks, too, to the New
World Celts, who volunteered to show up in force, with
kilts and swords, to greet the visitors. The delegates
were also greeted by the City Commission, as well as
a group of ambassadors from various businesses to
help them navigate through town, finding the restau-
rants and shops of their choice, and also to present
them with a cookie from Kookie Krums, complete with
Steve Spathelf’s “Greetings from Dunedin” mural from
the side of Thornton Donoghue & Associates.
Dunedin’s Beso del Sol Resort also joined in the fun,
taking delegates by limo to their hotel for a look around.
After the dust settled, Chamber President Lynn Wargo
attended the Tourist Development Council, and brought
a gift of a Dunedin mural cookie to them to thank them
for the opportunity to show off Dunedin. We’ve already
volunteered to do the same for any other groups they
want to bring to town!
Thanks to everyone who participated in making the
Florida Encounter conference visit a success. It took
everyone, joining together, to make the event a showcase for our city.

The Chamber’s Board of Directors is dedicated to service to our
community and members and is personally “walking the walk” so the
saying goes.
During these difficult economic times, they wanted to help direct more
business to your business, so the Chamber’s Visitors Center will be open
Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., January 9 through April.
We’ll be doing what we do everyday, welcoming visitors to our community, answering questions, giving referrals, and helping our guests make
the most of their visit to Dunedin. Of course, some of these guests will
also be potential new residents looking for products and services, and
hopefully your business.
If you know of anyone who may want to volunteer a Saturday or two, we’d

Chamber Represented in Holiday Events
A group of Board members, family and friends all walked along the
parade route for Dunedin’s Holiday Parade, passing out candy and good
cheer to all along the way.
Our float, in our opinion, was one of the coolest along the route. The
imaginative creation of Dan Zucker (Zucker & Zucker Creative Marketing),
it was a 10 foot high angel, complete with wings, trumpet and flowing
robes. The children’s reaction to her was worth the effort and warmed the
hearts of everyone who watched them.
Very special thanks to Dan for his wonderful creativity, Terry Hodge
(Terbo Construction) for providing the flatbed trailer and truck, and all who
walked along the route.
After the parade, the Chamber was open and in full swing for Old
Fashioned Christmas. Thanks the Dunedin Public Library, the Board
room was filled with children working on an art project or listening to
stories told by pajama-clad Library staffers. Plus Ms. Betty Johnson, a
quilter, was perched in the Chamber’s front window, reminding everyone
of the old department store Christmas window displays. Chamber staff
had the air filled with hot cider or mulled wine, all for the enjoyment of the
visitors to this unique, homey event.
If you have never taken the opportunity to attend Old Fashioned Christmas, make sure it’s on your calendar next year. It’s a wonderful event,
created by the City of Dunedin staff, and the perfect way to get into the
Holiday spirit!

Chamber Auction – Sunset, Great Buys and Perfect Location
The Chamber’s Auction, held in November, was a
treat for the eyes and senses, as well as a place to get
some great bargains. Thanks to the hardworking
organizing committee, the clubhouse of Edgewater
Arms was transformed into a glowing, tropical venue,
boasting a spectacular view, and the perfect location
for friends, old and new, to enjoy themselves.
Very special thanks to Gaspar Tirone, President of the
Board of Edgewater Arms, and the Board, for permitting the Chamber’s event to be held there. The staff
was especially helpful on site and the residents were
kind to allow the Chamber members to enjoy their
beautiful location.
A larger than expected crowd turned out for the Auction, making it the most successful in years. Thanks to
everyone who supported the event, your participation is
greatly appreciated.
