ASQ Fox Valley Section
Message from the Chair
Members & Colleagues,
As we start 2015, the Section Leadership
Committee (SLC) continues to work hard
to provide educational and interesting
programs for our members. Our monthly
section meetings allows for professionals
in the quality and technical fields to come
together to network, learn best practices,
share experiences and learn how quality
can improve their products and services
on the job, as well as gain professional
and personal development. We look
forward to having you attend our
meetings.
The Section Leadership Committee has a
full staff of committee members that are
dedicated, hard-working, and have
volunteered their time to serve you, our
members. I want to personally thank all
of the committee members for your past
and continued support and dedication,
and to welcome several new committee
members for a new, challenging, and
fulfilling role that you have accepted. A
full listing of all of the names, positions
and contact information for all committee
members are highlighted on our website.
The ASQ Illiana section is hosting their 8th
Annual Quality Conference entitled
“Quality an Ever Changing Process”, on
Friday, January 30, 2015 at the Prairie
State College (Chicago Heights, IL). This
is an outstanding conference with
keynote speakers, break-out sessions,
and an excellent opportunity to network
with other like-minded quality
professionals. This is a local conference
that is a great value and can be used for
RU recertification. Additional information
can be found in this newsletter.
Don’t miss this event.
The Fox Valley Section is again
actively involved in the 2015 DuPage
Area Engineers Expo. This will be the
second year that the section will be
hosting a booth at this exciting
event. The Expo is an interactive
event providing children and adults
the opportunity to experience and
explore the many fields of science
and engineering, and to learn and
gain a more understanding of the
Engineering profession.
The Expo
will be at the Illinois Institute of
Technology (IIT) in Wheaton on
Saturday, February 28, 2015. Don’t
forget to mark this date on your
calendar. Please stop by our booth.
We look forward to seeing you there.
Our section continues to offer a wide
range of Education courses for our
members.
Courses
have
been
developed for the 2015 Spring term.
On-site programs are also available at
a discounted rate. Please contact
Chuck Gates, Education Chair at
education@asq-foxvalley.org
for
further details. Please look over the
course schedule in this newsletter.
I look forward to seeing you at our
next Member Meeting at Jimmy’s
Char House (Elgin) on February 3,
2015.

Accountability Group for
Members in Transition
At previous section programs, several
people have indicated interest in a
“Quality” based Accountability Group/Job
Search Work Team in the Fox Valley area.
Fox Valley ASQ Section 1208 is open to
sponsoring a group at Central DuPage
Hospital in Winfield. Membership is open
to unemployed and under-employed job
seekers that want to stay motivated and
on track in their job search. The benefit
of a career search group is that job
seekers network, encourage and support
each other to keep motivated and on task
in what might otherwise become a very
un-structured time. Online resources are
only part of the career search. It's easy to
get lured into an unproductive vortex. Job
boards can be valuable, but if you really
want to stand out, you'll want to nurture
relationships in-person, reach out and
talk with people face-to-face.
You can try some of these tips:
 Invite one or more of your past
colleagues for a mini-reunion over
coffee or after-hours drinks.
 Check in with a past manager to see
what's new.
 Celebrate with people in your network
who have changed jobs or have work
anniversaries. Just monitor your
LinkedIn home feed for news and
updates.
 Invite people in your network to attend
professional association meetings or
other networking events.
 Get into a supportive career search
group and network into companies
before submitting applications.
To join: Email David at
drmssbb@gmail.com with your name,
city/town, email address and phone
number.
