On Friday, October 2, we are inviting all of Greater Victoria to: STAY HOME & READ A BOOK Curl up with a good book and donate the money that you would have spent on a night out to support your library. gvpl.ca/stayathome Notification Sign up for email notification and you’ll receive prompt notice when you have items on hold that are ready for pickup. You’ll also receive courtesy notices when your borrowed items are about to become due (with the exception of Fastviews and Fastplays). Contact your local branch or go to gvpl.ca. Renewals You can renew materials at gvpl.ca, via the mobile app or in person at your local branch. You can renew 21-day loan materials twice if no one has them on hold. Overdue Materials The library’s collection belongs to everyone. Please return borrowed materials promptly so others may enjoy them. Unpaid accounts of $25 or more are sent to a collection agency. RENEWALS Maureen Sawa Library cards are free if you live or attend school in the GVPL service area, which includes Central Saanich, Colwood, Esquimalt, Highlands, Langford, Metchosin, Oak Bay, Saanich, Victoria and View Royal, as well as Beecher Bay, Songhees, Tsartlip, Tsawout and Esquimalt reserve lands. You must show identification that has both your legal name and current address. If you do not have identification with your legal name and current address, you will need to bring two pieces of identification that show proof of residency. During the month of September, we will be seeking your opinion – in your local branch, on the street corner, online and beyond – to find out how GVPL can continue to connect you with ideas and information. We encourage you to have your say and tell us what makes the library your place. Story Buddies pairs young children with volunteer tweens for creative writing and illustration fun. Your Big Buddy will write down your story and then you will illustrate it together. For ages 10-12. If you like working with children, enjoy stories, are a fluent English speaker and want to help young children with early literacy skills, we need you! Latin Course for Teens For ages 13-18. Latin is not a dead language and, with a little effort, you can learn to read it. This is a rigorous course in classical Latin for committed teens taught by Mark Nugent & Dr. Gregory Rowe (UVic). By year’s end you will be able to read poems by Catullus, the medieval Bayeux Tapestry and the Latin translation of Harry Potter. The course runs for eight months and is free but a textbook is required; contact teens@gvpl.ca for information about purchase, second-hand or borrowing options.
